    Dreading girls night out!

I just tell people "the band won't let me eat any more!" And laugh about it. Everyone is really supportive. I don't have many haters in my life or work place. Everyone is very supportive. At first I didn't want to tell anyone. But it's easier in social eating situations if people know. At least for me it is. Enjoy your meal! That's the important part. And your friends!

  4. You can take any kind of chunky soup and purée it. Add canned chicken for more protein. Once puréed its smooth and tasty!

    please help! need caloric intake

Cheryl, are you supposed to count calories ever or just listen to your band? My doctor never really stresses the need to count with me. .? Should I be seeing a nutritionist?

    please help! need caloric intake

I have never "counted" calories during this journey. I was banded on 12/16/13. My doctor never stressed that part of it. I have had 3 fills and I am down 35 lbs. I make good choices most of the time. The hard part is that my job requires me to attend mixers, happy hours and eating lunch out. I try to order seafood most of the time but I am sure there is a lot of butter. I have been very lucky to still lose with out weighing portions, etc. I pay attention to my band when I eat. I have never had anything get stuck. I chew a lot and I put my fork down after each bite. Is there a set amount of calories to take in daily? I think I am doing this right considering my life style and weight loss. I don't buy diet food. I dont eat diet pre packaged food. I buy real food. And I cook it.
  9. Congrats! Start googling soup recipes! Have fun with it!

    Post-Op Liquid Diet?

I don't think karen was being rude. I think she was making an observation. What works for one person may not work for another. Each doctor has different rules and plans. It's important that we all follow the plan provided by our own doctor. Sharing your plan is fine. But someone might misunderstand your sharing as permission to go against their own doctors orders. That's all. It's hard to interpret tone in texts. I have read many different plans and they all seem to work fine for that individual. Some people had no Pre op diet at all. It's always best to follow your own doctors orders.
  11. Saw Dr. Oz where they showed before and after pics. 1000-3000 mg of Biotin a day to maintain healthy hair, grow it back and keep it. Just curious if anyone has tried this?
  12. I haven't heard anything about bad skin being a side effect.

    I'm hungry

2 weeks out I made a pot of Paula deens chicken noodle soup. I left the noodles out. It's all from scratch. Starts by boiling the chicken, etc. #1 it gave me something to do. #2 it tasted great puréed! I was so sick of sweet protein shakes. I could not drink another one. This soup was so satisfying and I was truly full for 5 hours with no thought of hunger at all. It lasted me a week. I think it was the perfect solution to my cravings. The recipe is on line. Google Paula Deens Chicken Noodle Soup. It comes up as "the Lady's" recipe I think.

Try Isapure clear protein drink. It's like a Gatorade. 40 grams of protein and zero carbs!

    Post-Op Liquid Diet?

Post op is the healing phase. That's why you are directed to be on liquids. That for me was the hardest. I spent 2 years in culinary so I was very creative with my full liquids. A magic bullet blender will become your best friend.

    Pre-surgery diet

Unjury has an unflavored protein powder that you an add to anything. Including your broth. Adds 20 grams of protein per scoop. You can add it to coffee as well.

    IT'S Here!

I had the same feelings. I was scared. I was nervous. Worried. But I changed my thinking and felt completely blessed that I had the opportunity to change my life. So I took advantage of that opportunity. I was banded 12/16/13. Constantly moving forward and not looking back. Down 32 lbs.

    Oysters?

I eat them all the time with crackers and sauce. I chew them well, though.

    Does the gas ever end?!

OH MY! The gas is endless! My fiancé has nicknamed me "The Jet Stream"! No one told me about this side effect prior to surgery.

    Does the gas ever end?!

I am 2 months post op. down 32 lbs. I eat pasta maybe once every 2 weeks. Bread maybe once a week. No rice, because I don't care for it. I haven't had anything get stuck. I am 6 cc in a 10 cc band. I eat cod, salmon and sea bass at least 4 nights a week for dinner. I eat skinny cow ice cream sandwiches. I eat out. I make good choices but I pretty much eat what I want. It's just a much smaller amount. And I drink when I eat. Everyone's different. And every doctor seems to have a different preference.

    Banded 2-14-14

If you want a protein drink that is clear like Gatorade, try Isapure. It's zero carbs, and had 40 grams of protein. Smoothie King carries them or you can order on line.

    Protein

I love edamame, but due to my thyroid, my doctor advised me to avoid all unfermented soy. To each his own. Dr. Mercola is a pretty famous doctor who believes in nutrition to heal the body. I found this article pretty interesting. My doctor agrees with his research. I am not telling anyone to eat soy or not to eat soy. Just sharing my experience with soy and thyroid issues. Please google "the dark side of soy" first.
