shmily got a reaction from Nicole091673 in TMI?
So in sticking with my plan for the last three weeks, it was Friday morning and "weigh day". I was happy to see another 3 lb. loss to make 40 in 6 weeks. Then I took my measurements as I have done on weigh day and compared them with pre op measurements. I have lost 23 inches!!!
I felt so good about me, that after hiding my body from my husband for about a year or so, I walked from the bedroom to the clothes hamper in the utility room stark naked twice!!! He just smiled and asked me if this was a parade or an invite!!! LOL

shmily got a reaction from Judyr in How much protein are you getting daily?
I am 5 ft 4 in and based on that the doctor says after the two week post op, I will need about 60 mg Protein. Right now I am getting 90 and that in Premier shakes is 510 calories

I don't think you can say that across the board. Each patient should follow their own doctors orders. Mine had me doing Protein Shakes as soon as I was released from the hospital on day 3

shmily got a reaction from Ginger Snaps in Saw my surgeon today
I saw my surgeon today for the first time since my 2 week checkup. He was absolutely thrilled with my progress and the fact that I surpassed his first goal for me!!
He said he recommends that his patients stay on the 2 Protein Drinks a day as I would lose more weight that way. I told him I did not mind at all. I will get labs done at 3 mos and see him afterwards....Keeping my eye on the prize!!!
Edited to say, We are leaving tomorrow morning for vacation. I guess it is time to pack!!!

I was never a big soda drinker, so that wasn't a big deal for me to give up. coffee on the other hand. . . I started by drinking half regular, half Decaf for a week, then switched entirely to decaf. It wasn't as horrible as I thought it would be. The funny thing is that since my surgery, I don't care for the taste of coffee as much and have started drinking decaf tea a lot more. Kind of strange how our tastes can change after surgery. . .

shmily got a reaction from volkitteh in What I have lost and what I have gained
I had surgery on Feb 26, 2014. As of yesterday "Weigh Day" I have lost 43 lbs and over 23 inches. I have also lost diabetes, high blood pressure and high cholesterol. I have lost my walking cane that I have had to use for over a year because of knee and back pain. I have lost the size clothing I was wearing when I had surgery and the size smaller fits loosely.
I have GAINED the ability to use my exercise bicycle, being able to cross my legs again, wear my wedding ring again, better health and fitness, more confidence and self worth, the ability to go for short walks with my husband and dog Pearl...and so much more.....
Life is good........

Sorry to be contrite, but, you're preaching to the choir here. 99.9% of the thousands of forum members here love food too. But, 95% +/- love our new skinny/overweight(not obese) bodies.
Like Pink Dahlia said: "I'm so stinkin' thrilled with my weight loss i dont even care about what i cant eat!"

No no...you have it wrong. There's nothing wrong with loving food or loving to eat. The problem is we don't know when to stop. Once you have control over that, you won't mind that you still love food or love to eat. Believe me...I still love food...always will. And I love to eat. I love good food and it's still my favorite way to socialize. But I'm satisfied with just a fraction of what I ate before and being able to walk away from the table knowing I was always in control of the food and not the other way around, is an amazing feeling.
Here's hoping you reach this awareness and find great success. Good luck to you!

I had a gastric bypass almost a year ago. After the surgery, my constantly nagging hunger disappeared overnight. It was not difficult to lose weight when I was no longer hungry. On the other hand, foods also lost their taste. Before surgery, I loved the taste of food. But how could one enjoy eating when foods no longer have any taste.
I figured a method of putting taste back into food, which seemed to work for me. If after surgery, you experience the same loss of taste, you might want to take a look at How I Survived Bariatric Surgery available at http://www.breadandbutterscience.com/Surgery.pdf

shmily got a reaction from tebowfan in What I have lost and what I have gained
Sometimes when I look at people's stats I have to remember that a lot of folks are required to follow a wt loss plan for 6 months prior to their surgery. That is included inn their wt loss stat.

shmily reacted to SugarFreeMe in I am FREEZING!
I actually talked with my surgeon about this very thing because like you I was always hot, now I'm always cold. He said it has to do with your body not getting all the calories it's used to so it's conserving where ever it can. It focuses on the core, the extremities don't get good blood circulation as a result, therefore we get cold hands and feet. He said that once I get to the point when I take in more calories this should pass. Hope that helps. I for one would gladly have cold hands and feet if it meant I was loosing weight.

I remember seeing somewhere that it's actually related to the surgery and not just due to lower fat. I'll have to look around again for that info.
Time to buy new cardigans!
