  1. I've never tried that kind - The muscle milk light is 140 calories, 8 oz. and has 20 g of Protein.

I'm working out with a personal trainer specifically to strengthen the muscles around my knees. It is supposed to help redice the pain. It's been 2 weeks and I think it is better. He has me doing a lot of modified squat activities, balance work, and excercises to strengthen the glutes. He says I should ne using the glutes to stand up from a squat. Good luck!

    Personal trainer

I am working out with a personal trainer every two weeks (and doing the excercises on my own in between). You have to find one that is willing to work with your goals and limitations and then it is great! Mine knows I have a herniated disc and modifies for that. He is helping me to strengthen the muscles around my knees so they don't hurt so much. My % body fat is dropping, % muscle is increasing, and I look and feel better. My trainer helps keep me motivated. Only downside is the cost - but on e every two weeks helps.
  4. I've never liked the kind you mix yourself. I stick with muscle milk light or premier protein and get it by the case at Costco.
  5. Hello and welcome. We all had similar questions at the beginning. The way my doctor and nutritionist (NUT) explained ito me was that I would eat the inside of a salad plate's worth of food for three meals a day and have two light Snacks each day for the rest of my life. This was shocking to me, but at seven mos. out, I am very happy to eat this way. I am not hungry and food has become much less important to me. It is important that you are willing to accept this lifestyle before you make the decision, but keep in mind that you will go through some major changes after the surgery as we all do. It is hard to picture giving up something that is such an important part of your life but, for most of us, it becomes much less important after the first couple of months.

    Anti Inflammatory

I agree with what you say. Somewhere I read that the most likely cause of death from the sleeve after one year out is from ulcers. However, it isn't clear to me how high that risk actually is.

    FRUSTRATED!

Also - the 3 week stall is notorious on this site - nearly everyone goes through it. Just hang in there and keep following directions from your NUT and do tor.

    FRUSTRATED!

Absolutely I have gone through this before. Recently, I started working with a trainer (strength trainin) and haven't lost much for two weeks. However, with their fancy piso-electric scale, I learned that I had added 4 lbs of muscle and lost 4 lbs of fat! As one member said, after a loss sometimes your body just needs to rearrange itself.

    Anti Inflammatory

Mine said not to unless I didn't have any other choice - and then only after 3 mos.

    Gym workout! Help!

I think there are three basic types of fitness: cardio/endurance, strength, and flexibilty/balance. I use the eliptical, do strength training (hand weights, bands, planks, etc.), and pilates to try to hit all three. Enjoy whatever you do and change it up to avoid boredom.

    bike riding

Did you have fun? I am in my mid-fifties, but riding a bike makes me feel like a little kid!
  12. No change for me this week. I started increasing my excercise (adding more strength traing and endurance). I suspect my body is adjusting to it and I hope to see a drop next week.
  13. I got new pants everytime the people at work told me the old ones looked awful on me - and then ended up having to do the same thing a couple of weeks later!
  14. My Doctor said the average patient will lose 60 - 70% of their excess weight. At seven mos. I've almost lost 70% and am still losing. I do think hard work and dedication plays a big part, but people's bodies are all different.
  15. I think you have to be open to the journey. It's not easy to give up that "best friend" who has not really been the friend we thought. At nearly seven months out, I do enjoy food - it just doesn't control me anymore. I no longer think about it all the time. There are (infrequent) times when I miss not being able to eat a big meal of something I enjoy (for me, that would be a big plate of Mexican food), but I appreciate the taste, still, and am glad that my sleeve and I are working together to keep me from eating more. I like having control over my choices and I really like how I look. I like being able to do things with my grown children without being left behind. I especially like that I have reduced risk of stroke and dementia, which run in my family.

    Fluids with meals

I live in Texas and all of my meal (starting with breakfast) can be spicy. It is hard and I do sometimes take a sip.
  17. I asked a similar question previously. I was told that the cup size is relative to the sixe of your chest below the girls amd then the size of the girls. Therefore, if you lose more wt in your back and sides than in your girls, your cup size can even go up!

You know you lost weight when

When the paper smock in your regular Doctor's office covers you. Sitting here in mine waiting for the doctor and not mortified by the gaps!

  20. My first meal after the full liquids was an oz. of Tilapia. As I walked in the door after work (my husband was cooking), he played the song "Food Glorious Food" from Oliver!
  21. 3 days of Clear Liquids followed by 5 weeks of full liquids. This included SF/FF pudding and Light strained cream Soup (highlight of my day!). After that, slowly introduce the "normal" bariatric diet as I felt comfortable.

What to do with my hands?

This is the big adjustment we all had to make following surgery and the reason why most of the work is in our heads. For me, it was like hitting a wall once I got home from the surgery and I went through some bad times for the first six weeks. At six months out - I spend more time working out then before and I also spend more time clothes shopping. I do read more as well. I keep thinking I need to pick up another hobby - like knitting. The main thing is that food is no longer the center of my life. I think the surgery is a lot like going cold turkey and learning how to live differently.
  23. Both pre-op and post-op were tough for different reasons, but I stuck to them. I was hungry during pre-op, but wanted to chew during post-op. My Dr. kept me on a liquid diet for 5.5 weeks after surgery. I didn't want complications, so I followed it to the letter. It's only for a defined time. To me it is harder to deal with managing my intake for the long run.

    Planking

LOL - I remember watcing a woman who was clearly very comfortable in a plank checking facebook while she did. Not me - I am suffering!

    Grocery Bill . . .

Of course, I spent a lot on clothes for a while just because The ones I bought two weeks ago no longer fit. Now that I'm past 6 mos. and losing slower, it is a little different. The hard part about shopping for clothing is that, before surgery, I was used to buying anything that actually fit and didn't look too bad. Now I go in the store and I can always find several outfits that fit and look great - it is hard to pick and choose!
