    starting my own pre-op diet

My pre-op diet is very low-fat vegetarian (carbs ok, but keep overall calories low). What a difference between mine and the Adkins diet!

Pre op diet over the holidays

It was tough for me too - two big dinners & I ate unbuttered vegies and a Protein shake. I'm starting to understand that my relationship to food has to change. I tried to concentrate on enjoying the time with my family instead of the good food. It will be a journey. The funny thing is, I ate part of a sweet potato - something I used to hate. I'm thinking of food as nourishment more and it seems to be changing my tastes. I stuck to my pre-op diet and am pleased with that.

    starting my own pre-op diet

On my pre-op diet, I've been enjoying water and water with crystal light (raspberry ice is my favorite).

    December 2013 Sleevers

I'm being sleeved on Tuesday and everyone around me (including my sisters and husband) seems to have a bad cold. I'm worried that, if I get the cold, it will be postponed (and I'll just have to continue the pre-op diet for several more weeks).

    2 weeks post op

Thanks for the update. I plan to go back to work 13 days after the surgery (which will be Dec. 31), so good to hear you are doing ok. I hope everything continues to go well for you.

Pre op diet over the holidays

I'm doing ok on the pre-op diet still (six days complete out of 14). It's tough to be at parties and dinners with other people and watch them eat. I've always been able to diet for a the short run, though, it is the longer timeline where I run into trouble (and hence need the surgery). It is more important to me now to make sure the surgery goes well and so I'm very motivated to stick to the pre-op diet.
  7. I'm getting sleeved Dec. 31, too. I hate to post this, but my pre-op diet isn't as bad as everyone else's (thought still not easy). I have two weeks of vegetarian very low fat/low cal. eating (with protein shakes) and a requirement to stop eating at midnight the night before the surgery. I went to a Christmas dinner party last night and ate before I left. I had salad with non-fat dressing while everyone ate delicious looking food. I managed, but it was tough. For one thing, I was seated in front of the spiral sliced ham and I watched it sliced and served to each person! Also, they had my favorite dessert (pumpkin pie). I have two more of these dinners to get through (one at my house), but I know it will all be worth it. If nothing else, it is teaching me that I can socialize and enjoy company without lots of eating and drinking. I had my last appointment with the surgeon yesterday and everything is good to go. I am mostly very excited, but hit periods of extreme nerves. I'm very much looking forward to being on the other side. Good luck to all of the December sleevers, and especially those on Dec. 31!

Addiction to Diet Coke and Coffee is GONE!

Nice to hear! I am certainly addicted to dietcoke. I've made up my mind to give it up forever due to the potential to stretch the pouch, but I don't expect it to be easy. I remember giving up (ten) Tab soda each time I was pregnant, but begging for it after I delivered.

Pre op diet over the holidays

I'm getting sleeved Dec. 31 and am hosting Christmas Eve at my house. My sisters offered to bring all the food (including some vegetarian options that I am allowed to have). I know it will be really hard to smell the ham and see the Desserts, but I feel like the pre-op diet is temporary and I can think about it that way. I certainly don't want to "fail" and not get the surgery! I think willpower can last two weeks. We will see!
  10. Take care! I'll be thinking of you and hoping things work out well.

    December 2013 Sleevers

I thought it would be in January - but I was just scheduled with Dr. Cribbins for Dec. 31 in Plano, TX. I start the pre-op diet in a few days. It will be a happy New Year!
  15. Contact the pharmaceutical company directly - I know they help out individuals when asked (especially for a defined period like you have).
  16. "No one can prepare you for how hard the first 6 weeks is." Now I'm really scared!
  17. I've just told my close family, but had to tell my boss and some coworkers that I am going to be having surgery. I didn't say what the surgery was and so far no one has asked. My boss asked last week "Are you feeling ok"? I know he wanted me to tell him what the surgery was for, but I just said I was doing ok. Everyone at work knows I have a herniated disk, so I think they are guessing that is it. Of course, as a woman with a male boss, I've always thought I could mention female issues and he would drop the subject like a hot potato!

    January 2014 Sleevers Come In!

I am expecting to have my surgery in January - I just received my insurance approval. It's funny - I was confident and relaxed until I got the letter. Now I'm feeling nervous. I'm still looking forward to it, though.
