  1. We all need to learn to feel our feelings rather than cover them up. I like the idea of feeling the anger and using it to do something physically demanding and productive (like cleaning your house).

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I wasn't allowed to do much but walk for the first six wks and just started back today. My aerobic fitness is shot and I don't have much muscle strength. I'm not sure if this is the diet or the break from excercise. I tried the elliptical (which I used to do before), and my heart rate shot up to 155 immediately (for fat burning I'm supposed to keep it at 130 - 145). The bicycle (which used to not be a challenge) was better. Also, I tried some hand weights, but couldn't lift them as many times as before (10 vs. 20 before). I guess I just need to keep at it.

    I feel like a liar

I told my bosses I needed to be off for surgery and they didn't ask for details. As time got closer, I did get questions from coworkers and answered " I don't really want to talk about it". They dropped it.
  4. I want to sign up for a scuba diving class in May - I'll get going and do it!

    The big day

I'll be thinking about you today - good luck!
  6. The most difficult thing for me was getting back up after laying down. It was even tough getting out of a recliner (mine might be difficult to operate!) with weak abs. I probably could have taken care of myself except for that. As to the dogs - do you need to walk them? Walking is good, but large dogs could be tough to manage.

    my missing stomach

That bothered me too and I can understand your feelings. I went ahead with the surgery because I thought it was the best choice and I can't say I miss that part of my stomach now. I'm glad I had the surgery because I believe that, in giving up part of my stomach, I have improved my overall health.

    Can I take a bath?

I was sent home with instructions not to (I had the "super glue" on my incisions). I asked at three weeks when the incisions seemed heeled and the doc. said I could. I suggest you ask your doc.
  9. It seems to me that it weight is the last socially acceptable physical aspect to make fun of or criticize. Do you remember the movie Shallow Hal? It was disgusting. I'm sorry you went through this and hope that you can put it behind you. Internalizing it is really hurting you more than the original comment. I think the comments will end as we loose weight, but nothing will change if we can't let go of that pain.

    So nervous

I am only 5 weeks out and am not dealing with real food yet, but I believe that this new tool is helping me to change my relationship with food. For one thing, I used to eat a large qty of good tasting food to anesthitize my feelings. Now, more than a small amount will cause pain. I don't think I will ever see food the same way again.
  14. I'm 5 weeks out and have gone from size 20 to size 16 pants. Yeah!

10 months out and stuck in a rut

You might want to try something completely different for exercise just to get you started again. I started pilates when I was 230 lbs and have really enjoyed it. You might like something different - but the point is to branch out (and not stay on the same old treadmill!).

    Newbie here

Welcome! It's good to hear you are doing so well. My doc is strict about solid food and doesn't allow much but liquids until 5 wks and 3 days. I am almost to five weeks and am seriously sick of the shakes. Hang in there!

    help

Stephg, are you feeling better today? I can tell you what I was allowed to eat until 5 weeks and 3 days: Protein drinks, Water with crystal light, decaf tea, diluted low cal juice, popcycles, NF/NS yogurt and pudding, soup broth, and strained LF cream soups. They did say I could blend in the contents of the soups, but I'm being careful about that. Good luck! Peggy

    Here's a thought...

The odd thing for me is, I've always been able to live by that motto in every aspect of my life except food. I studied in college when I wanted to party, I socked money away in my 401K when I wanted to spend it, etc. Why haven't I been able to think long term when it comes to feeding my body? I hope this tool (my sleeve) will help me learn to apply it to food.
  19. I can't really see the loss either. I know in my head that my stomach is flatter, but I don't see that the rest of my body looks smaller. I am always very surprised when smaller sizes fit me when they didn't a few weeks ago. I took photos and can see it in the photos - but it hasn't made it to the brain yet.

    help

I have heard from others that sleeves often don't like potatoes (especially at first). I tried a blended light Healthy Choice potato soup once and it hurt my stomach. I haven't tried it since.

    December 2013 Sleevers

You are ahead of me! I was sleeved on Dec. 31 and am down 26 lbs (10 before & 16 after). I am down two full jeans sizes, so am feeling pretty happy!
  23. You're doing great! I'm also at one month and have lost 26 pounds (ten of it pre-op). My doc. still has me on a liquid diet and I am absolutely sick of the Protein drinks. I get to start solid food in six days (not that I'm counting).

    Guess what?!

    That's great! Congratulations!!!
