  1. Good luck Sparky! Keep us posted with many updates before and after surgery! I've incorporated some exercise- Bob Harper has kicked my butt this morning! The (mostly) liquid diet is going well. I'm a little hungry at times, but nothing insane. I like that things are portioned out for me since I know I can't be trusted yet to portion out food for myself yet. I've been faithfully logging food into MFP and that has helped too. I have this looming fear that my ins won't cover surgery even though the patient coordinator assured me that everything looks good...
  2. Great topic for all of us heading into surgery and for those who have had it too- we all need to reflect regardless of where we are.

    Clear liquid diet..HELP

I am 2 months presurgery and I decided to try the liquid diet for a week to see what's in store for me. I have just completed day1. I look forward to reading how the next 7 days goes for you!
  4. Day 1 went well. 2 protein/fruit shakes and vegetable Soup. My goal is shakes, veggies, ff yogurt, sf Jello and Popsicles for 7 days. I'm hoping to lose the 5lbs I gained last month before my next appt on the 13th. I set my alarm for 6am to try and get in some exercise tomorrow morning. I thought about waiting til after the new year, but I'm sure that was just my brain trying to talk me out of getting healthy! I hope everyone had a great weekend!
  5. I haven't been told that I will have an endoscopy, but I think I will ask at my next appt. I already have Protein shakes for Breakfast, but I am determined to lost the lbs. that I gained last month. I figure that trying it for 1 week will get me ready for the 2 weeks that are coming up.
  6. My doctor never gave me a specific # of lbs to lose like I've heard other people were given. I was maintaining until my last appt. I was shocked and embarrassed, honestly. I don't feel like I'm intentionally eating more prior to surgery, but that is definitely what it looks like. I am thinking of trying the bariatric liquid diet for a week starting Jan. 1 to help boost weight loss and to prepare me for what I will eventually have to do before my surgery. Did either of you have to complete the psych. evaluation? I am excited for all of us too!

    Exercise Goals

Reading both of your posts is just what I needed! I am about 2 months pre-surgery and I've been making eating changes, but I've yet to start any exercise habits. I live in Chicago- so we just had our 50 degree heat wave this weekend, but it's dipping back down to 0 this week. I love walking at my local park, but that's pretty much out of the question. I am not into the gym thing, but I may have to start hitting them up just to get on the treadmill. Great post- thanks.
  8. Hi Autumn! I am definitely looking forward to following both of your stories as we finish up our pre-surgery paths! How have your appointments been so far- did you lose much weigh during yours? I gained 5lbs at my last appt, so I am working hard at taking those lbs off before my next appt on Jan. 13

    baggage

I have thought like this pretty consistently- there are just so many things I'm looking forward to after surgery. It will be here before we know it!

    Grieving food?

I found that I had gained weight at my last appt. (#4). I am trying to be easy on myself since I quit smoking and drinking beer since starting this journey. I am experimenting with low sugar adult beverages and cutting out most carbs. It's been pretty hard especially with holiday sweets and traditional tamales at work and at home! I am using myfitnesspal and just trying to make positive changes everyday- it's not perfect, but it's better than where I was before my first appt.
  11. I chose bypass since it seems to be the tried and true method. I also have quite a lot to lose, so I am thinking this is the best option for me.
  12. My story is pretty similar to yours. I am just about done with my appts, but I'm always looking to find new support buddies along my way. Coincidentally, my 5th appt is on the date of your first appt. Good luck- I look forward to hearing about your first appt!
  13. My surgery will likely be February or March, so I am pretty close to your date. I am definitely interested in having a support buddy!

    Unsupportive Family

I have decided to tell a few people at work and most of my family knows. My fear was that if I didn't tell, they would think I was trying to hide it because I am ashamed, etc. I try to educate and be firm about how strongly I feel about having surgery to everybody I tell so that they won't have a chance to put me down or make negative comments. I quickly tell them that this option isn't for everybody- but it's definitely one that I have thought about and feel it's best for me. People haven't been negative, but they continue to encourage me to engage in bad habits... quietly or unintentionally trying to sabotage me- either way, I'm out to prove them wrong!

    February Surgeries

I just completed my psych appt. on Thursday and I'm scheduled to meet my surgeon on Jan. 13. All of my paperwork will be submitted and (hopefully) ready to go for February, but since I am a teacher, I am trying to schedule my surgery in March so I can just extend my Spring Break. I wish everyone luck and will be following all of your stories!
