December post ops
My aunt is 12 years post op rny and drinks a diet soda every day and she has maintained her goal weight. The reason they don't want you too is because carbonation can cause discomfort and "stretch" your pouch, also aspartame in diet sodas actually increase appetite and like someone mentioned is a diuretic. However i don't think having a diet soda will kill you!

Anyone throw up after a protein shake?
Yeah I'm thinking I do have some sort of flu although I did do some research and it turns out there are lots of people who get sick after eating or drinking whey protein. I just hope I can kick this crap fast, I'm not a good sick person. :-p

anyone regret having WLS?
It sounds like you are looking for people to convince you not to have the surgery since you specifically stated you wanted opinions of people who are not pro-WLS. You will find negative experiences if that's what your looking for and you will find positive if that's what your looking for. There is a support group that is anti weight loss surgery, maybe you will find the answers you are looking for there. It sounds to me as if you have already made up your mind though, goodluck on your journey.

STRONG Antibiotics
Cipro makes me throw up no matter what I eat.... They actually put me on an even stronger antibiotic than that, one they only use if you react poorly to two other antibiotics first and it rocks! My doctor said that cipro has always made her throw up too.... but I hope it agrees with you! I seem to be sensitive to a lot of foods and medications.

anyone regret having WLS?
I too know that I can lose all the weight without surgery, I have done it... But I cannot maintain it. Once you are obese those fat cells never go away, they just shrink and they are so quick to expand again! I wanted the tool mostly for maintenance, the extra weight loss is just an added bonus for me. Plus the sooner I get off the excess weight the better off i will be and the less opportunity for other weight related issues to arise.

Anyone throw up after a protein shake?
I have no idea! Now that you mention it, it's been a long time since I've thrown up but I took a nap and I still feel awful and dizzy and hot and cold sweats now. It very well may have been the start of some crud. I haven't eaten anything else because I hate throwing up! I cry every time I do, so I drank some water and stood up and felt dizzy so i laid right back down... I've never been able to nap like this during the day so you could very well be right that I'm coming down with something.

Anyone throw up after a protein shake?
Hello, so I am pre op and drink a premier protein shake in the morning, yesterday it gave me a migraine and today I threw up what looked like the entire shake, projectile style. Has anyone else experienced this with protein shakes? I've been drinking them for a few weeks but haven't had a problem until the last two days...

Small difference, big smile
Thanks Brant! I have been making changes over the last few months to help transition into the post op life including taking all the required chewable vitamins, I drink a protein shake every morning to help insure I get at least 70g of protein a day and I have been TRYING to sip my fluids that's the hardest part for me. I'm a water drinker and a gulper lol. I'm at the gym 5-6 days a week and my first instinct after a good workout is to chug some ice cold water. Other than that I'm satisfied with my food choices and have set a realistic and sustainable work out regimen.

Small difference, big smile
So I am still pre op but am working really hard on losing as much as i possibly can before surgery and I'm down 31lbs I believe... Anyway not a huge deal but everyone keeps telling me they can really see it in my face, I couldn't... So I found an old picture of me and took one today and I could see it!!! I'm still much over weight but I think I look healthier and it made me smile 3 months ago Today

How about some NSVs!?!?
It was mentioned in my nurse education class. My program was VERY thorough. :-) It was mentioned in mine as well, in fact they won't perform the surgery here unless you are on birth control, I had to get an iud first

Why do people say Revision patients lose slower
Starvation doesn't actually occur unless you have less than 7% body fat. If you have more than that your body can take the calorie deficit and won't hold onto fat for fuel. Have you had your thyroid checked? Goodluck on your new journey! Make sure to express your concerns with your doctors.

sleep apnea?
I believe I am cured and don't feel tired when I wake up ( except right now I am having trouble sleeping at all!). At 3 1/2 years out, I went to Dr for another issue and said something about not needing Cpap etc and he said, "Are you sure you don't have it?" Now, I'm thinking I need to consider doing another sleep study ?? Haven't used machine in 3 years. What are y'all's thoughts? It definitely would be worth getting retested!!

sleep apnea?
I had sleep apnea as well. I haven't had surgery yet but have lost 31lbs and no longer have to use the Cpap machine. I have 5 relatives who also had sleep apnea and had WLS and no longer have it! I think any weight loss helps.
