  1. GoodKnight 420G is the name of my "mini" CPAP!
  2. I had my sleep study in 2005 and have been using a CPAP every since. I don't like having to use it but when I don't I feel horrible the next day. It is a hard process to go through. I, too, couldn't get to sleep that first time. Now it's hard to NOT fall asleep with the mask. Of course, I am hoping I won't have to use it a year from now but when you find out how often you stop breathing, you realize how badly you need it. I like using it so much now that I traded in my big machine for a small one that fits in my laptop case because I travel so much. I don't know of anyone that has sleep apnea that isn't overweight....does anyone? I sure hope this is something that I can look forward to getting rid of in addition to the weight!
  3. I have a friend who had gastric bypass in October 2003. She lost 175 lbs but gained most of it back in the last 3 years. She drinks like a fish and doesn't eat enough protein. I think it's all about moderation, and doing what you know you should do. Taking care of yourself the way you should. I am having a difficult time since quitting smoking in May. Last night was the first time I actually put a cigarette in my mouth (my husband is still smoking), although I didn't light it. So once I talked myself out of it, I turned to food. Had 15 potato chips with clam dip. I'm told after the surgery I won't have room for that...I sure hope so. I realize I am addicted to both cigarettes and food. I felt like a junky last night but hopefully tonight will be easier. There was no emotional need for me to want to do it either. It's scarey. What is your current and goal weight? 231.5/150 2.What is your surgery date? January 2010 3.What is your age? 55 4.Where do you live? Charlotte, NC 5.Where are you having surgery? Presbyterian Hosptial 6.Who is your Doctor?? David Voellinger 7.Insurance or self-pay? UMR Insurance 8.What was your "deciding factor" for having this surgery? Failing health, constantly going to the doctor, adding more medications, feeling lousy, missing my old self.
  4. My packet was sent to my insurance company, UMR, on November 4 and I was approved on November 23. Still waiting for a surgery date. Was told it will be sometime in January. I was hoping it would be in December since I already met my deductible but at least it was approved the first round!
  5. I just got insurance approval last week and was told my LAP-BAND® surgery will probably be mid to late January. I need to start the diet soon because although I have been going to the gym 3-5 days a week for over a month, the pounds are not coming off. I have actually gained 5 lbs and it's time to get the liver ready, so even though it's not yet required, I plan to do liquids a few days a week until it's required. Has anyone else tried doing this with any luck?
  6. My husband still smokes, but maybe I passed the test because neither of us ever smoked in the house. Smoking steals oxygen from cells that are trying to heal so it affects wound healing.
  7. My doctor required it so I quit, using Chantix. You can't "lie". They do a blood test to see if you have smoked, and they do it several times. It's so you heal better. I had a friend who just couldn't quit. Failed the test each time. Finally gave up. She just had her second knee replacement surgery. All because she chose to smoke. I smoked for 35 years and quit, so it CAN be done if you want the surgery bad enough!
