  1. I am 9 years out on my band and yes weight loss was very slow and hard but it was my own fault really for not working with my band like I should. I am having to start over after gaining weight with pregnancy but I am committing myself. My doctor is talking to me about the band to sleeve conversion due to the slow weight loss and some issues I have had but I do find that the sleeve is being pushed more than the band. He told me himself that he hasn't placed a band in over two years now and when I got mine that was the majority of his surgeries. You have to work with whatever you have done the surgeries aren't the fix they are just to help you lose and maintain.
  2. That is a funny one! I will have to remember that one.
  3. My port is on the right side of my stomach right under my rig cage. I have 7 incisions in all. My port being the largest at about 3" in size.
  4. Ok so I went to the doctor. He said I had 3.8 CC's in my band. By his records. I asked him to pull it all out and see what's in there and let's go from there. He could only get 2.5CC's out. So he put in .5cc's. Right now he is saying I am at 4.1 in my 4 cc band. I actually had a 3 lb gain instead of lose. I told him about not having any restriction at all. I am just afraid that I do not have a leak. He wasn't to interested in listening to what I have to say. He was to busy trying to rush me out of the office. Thanks for the reply!
  5. I have 3.6 CC's in my 4 cc band! I have restriction some of the time and other's not. I do very good in getting in all my liquids. I can eat around 6oz's at a meal. My problem is I think I need an adjustment but then not sure. I am self pay on $100.00 of the fill. The insurance covers the rest. I don't want to have to go today then turn around and go back two days later. Really do not have the cash right now! If I can eat 6ozs at a meal is that to much? I haven't been able to move due to spraining BOTH of my ankles over three weeks ago and still getting use to walking on them again. I hear so many differnet things on what size meal you should be able to eat. My dr says 6oz's isn't bad.... Suggestions!
  6. I was banded over three years ago. Lost 88lbs by my one year mark. Had band slippage and was unfilled for a month. Gained 17lbs back. Got re-filled and went from there. Was doing really good took back off the 17lbs. Now in 2006 I had another slippage due to food poisioning. Vomitting very heavily and just slipped. Neither slippage required surgery so I was lucky. He was able to unfill and just let it set for a month and refill gradually. I was refilled and instead of losing weight started gaining weight. The only rule I have ever had problems with his drinking with my meals but I have limited that way down. Today I have gained back 30lbs of weight lost and I have 3.6cc's in my 4 cc band. My doctor isn't really supportive in someways. He pretty much in so many words has told me I have failed. I feel like a failure. I can't eat a lot of foods and still get stuck. The weight isn't coming off.
  7. Make sure you know your policy on UHC. I was approved and banded over 3 years ago. Company made some changes and BOOM! I am now cash pay due to policy changes and no Biatric coverages as of June of this year. So instead of my twenty dollar copay. I now pay 55.00 for the fill, 40 copay...so 99 bucks everytime I go to the dr. Make sure you find out what UHC covers and make sure they are fully aware that it's long term care. They pay for the dr visit but I have to cover everything else.
  8. I can't tolerate bread haven't been able to ever since surgery. I haven't had bread in over three years. I think it has to do with the swelling of it once in your stomach. Think about it. 3 oz pouch with a few bites of bread you have a false fullness. I miss it but I don't really think about it much anymore.
  9. I have this issue ALOT. It became worse after about the first year of banding. I use a cleansing my aunt told me about. I drink salty water and boy does it do a colon cleanse but I feel soooooooo much better afterwards! My dr had nothing he could tell me as to why I was havin this issue.
  10. I drink around 4-5 times a week! I can't handle beer because of the fizziness of it. Kills my stomach. I love Jose Quevo and can't drink it anymore because it burns to bad! I usually drink some red wine or my favorite is a Cape Cod with Vodka/cranberry juice but have to be careful of the calories in alcohol. I never realized how much was in them until you really start looking at it!
  11. I have to crush anything that can be. Now gelcap tylenol I have noticed I do not have an issue but I request liquid form in anything available.
  12. I love mexican food! I stay away from the chips and salsa. I usually go for the fajitas or a chicken dish minus most of the cheese they put on top. Corn tortillas go down a lot easier than flour tortillas so I lean towards them. I love the grilled onions and peppers. I am also from Texas and we do LOVE our mexican food.
  13. My doctor goes strictly have volume and calories.

  15. I live to far away to make and extra trip to town for the gym so I work out at home. Walking 1.5 miles a day so far. Bicycling, and other activities around the house.
  16. After each fill I have soreness around were my band is. I am put on liquids the day of the fill and the next day. Then on to regular foods just to give my stomach time to adjust to the fill. I always have bruising due to my port being tilted and he had trouble finding it sometimes.
  17. I never had any issues with wearing normal clothes. I was banded on a Monday and went back to work the next monday wearing normal work clothes. It may just depend on the person.
  18. I also have PCOS and you know I never thought maybe that would be effecting anything. I think my big problem is my doctor isn't accessible at all times. I NEVER met with a nutritionist. I didn't go through some steps most people do. Surprisingly! thanks for the input everyone!
  19. I am not saying I have been perfect on sticking to the 1200 calories a day. I do use fitday.com and track it everyday. I do see the variances in it. I try to stay away from liquid calories due to I had noticed those were sneaking in before when I was on a plateau. Water is my friend. I just feel like I am stuck and it just seems like I am getting know were.
  20. HI everyone! I have just joined and glad to have found this site. I was banded 12/27/04. I choose the lap band due to being the more safer route and my cousin had it done and was doing great. I have dieted all my life. I had a long list for the doctor when I started all the paperwork for the beginning stages. I did pretty good the first year. December 20, 2004 I was down 88lbs. Then BAM slippage occured after being extremely sick with lots of vomitting going on. Dr. took out all saline to let the band rest and slip back in place...it worked but I was unfilled for a month due to his schedule and the holidays. I gained 17lbs right off the bat. I still stuck to all rules with some cheating of course. Then back on track in February. Done OK since that point no big weight loss more gain than anything. June 2006 due to food poisoning and we wanted to play it safe. February - June no weight loss or gain at this point. February 2007 had to take out one fill he put in due to me getting sick and being highly dehydrated. From February to this day I have gained 20lbs. I have followed the rules. He has me at 1200 calories a day and most of the time I eat way less due to restriction and being full. I exercise, I follow the rules and NOTHING is working. I am frustrated with myself and with the band. My dr is pretty much out of reach two weeks out of the month due to he is in town one week and out the next so you have to pick and choose the times he is available. I know we aren't suppose to compare ourselves to others but a lady I work with I talked her into having the band. She is one year post-op and looks amazing. She doesn't eat what she is suppose to, she still drinks her sodas and eats her bread. She doesn't exercise and the pounds are coming off like crazy. That's upsetting to me as well. I just need some suggestions! I do not want to fail the band. I had to get more healthier. I am healthier than I started out but not were I want to be by a land slide. :help:
