  1. I haven't been on here in a while, but I had rny on April 3, 2014. I lost 105lbs, making it down to 187lbs. My motivation was my two children & my wonderful husband. He is not my kid's natural father, but he has been their dad when their's weren't. But, I really wanted to give him a child of his own even when he said it didn't matter; that my kids are his kids. In 2011, I got pregnant, but soon after miscarried due to out of control blood pressure. Got pregnant again in 2013, but it was in my right tube. So, lost the baby & the tube. Doc showed pictures after surgery & I was ashamed. My tubes/uterus/ reproductive organs were surrounded by fat. I believe that my fat got in the way of baby making it to my womb. I decided once & for all to have the surgery after changing my mind twice over the years. Fast forward to August 2015 -we found out we are expecting without even trying! Our baby girl is doing great & is due to arrive on my 2 year Surgiversary April 2016!! How amazing is that?! Hope this inspires someone.

Pic is from 6 weeks ago.

  2. I am 3 days post surgery and I am starving. I hate chicken and beef broth. Please note that I am during the Clear Liquids now. I thought the hunger pains would go away? Also, I've gained weight.

Please don't be discouraged. You are so early out that your body still has Fluid & air built up from surgery. I'd recommend waiting about 2 weeks out before weighing yourself again. This will allow your body time to release the retention build up. That scale can also make you crazy so please be sure to take measurements as well for those days when the scale doesn't move at all. Good luck & welcome to the Loser's Bench!

  3. Hi, my surgery was 2 months ago on April 3rd. I had gastric bypass rny and since surgery, I've lost 25lbs. It seems kinda measly to me. Especially, for it to be rny. I'm seeing ppl with the sleeve or lapband losing more. I thought the weight comes off quicker with the bypass? Oh well, just so long as it comes off. I definitely feel so much better! How about you guys?

  5. I'm experiencing the exact same issue at 7 weeks out. You're only 2 weeks out which means you're probably still retaining IV fluids & air from surgery. The 1st month I lost 13.5 lbs. So far the last month I've only lost 3 lbs. I know that it will happen for me eventually & it will for you. Try only weighing once a month to keep from driving yourself crazy. Just like someone said earlier, slow and steady wins the race.

  6. Thank you all for your words of advice. In my past weight loss efforts I tried a diet called the "fast duet" which requires some fasting. I would fast 24 hours. Go to work/ teach full day then coach our football team for another 3 hours. I would still manage to throw in a workout during this fast day and all on Water. I felt relatively ok but this is only one day as opposed to 2 week liquids only. So I am going to heed the advice and take the full week off at least.

If their are more men out there with this procedure I would really like to hear about your experience also. I have found at least in my experience that a lot of men shun the idea of surgery as an option to aid in weight loss. I guess it's a "machismo" kind of thing. Especially in my circles since I am a coach and have friends that believe that weight loss is simply calories in calories out (over simplified) or believe that it is all about will power? In any case Ladies and Gents please let me hear from you and your experiences (socially) about the weight loss procedure. Thanks

There are a plenty of men on here. You can look them up. There's a special "room" for guys only, I don't know if that's the name of it or not. Maybe someone else knows it exactly. Also Instagram has many diverse groups of post-ops. Use the hash tags (#) #wls #rny #bariatricsurgery #vsginstacrew #gatricbypass #gastricsleeve etc in the search. Facebook has several Gastric Bypass Support Groups as well. Hope I helped...

  7. Not losing as much weight as I expected. Extremely disappointed in myself. I'm 6 weeks out and down 18lbs. with RNY. I really expected to lose at least 25lbs by now! Especially since I started at almost 300lbs. I could understand it if I was under 250. My sister in law lost 30lbs her 1st 3 weeks and we were about the same weight. She doesn't exercise but I'm on the treadmill regularly. I know I shouldn't compare myself to others but what is it that I'm doing wrong? Waah waah waaah *whiny, I know...lol

  8. Hi everyone! I had RNY GBP on 4/3/14 So I'm a little more than 4 weeks out. I can't seem to keep anything down except for starches & carbs. Well, liquids like my Protein Shakes are fine but solid Protein like fish, chicken, & eggs don't agree with me right now. I have an appointment to see if I have a stricture. I also see my NUT on 5/14/14. Hoping she can help me. If anyone has any recipes for me please share. I've lost 14lbs but was disappointed that it is not more. But, that's the breaks!

  9. lc6342 and all of you who've experienced complications you have my sympathy. Pain in your left shoulder is a sign of a leak. I'm surprised your doctor didn't know that! I'm 3 weeks out from gastric bypass and I'm experiencing pain in my stomach, upper right side. Could be gall bladder. I can drink liquids but I can't keep any solids down. My ribs & diaphragm hurt so much from the regurgitation that occurs when I eat the simplest things. My doc is sending me to a gastroenterologist tomorrow. I hope that everyone gets relief & look back on this experience as a bump (massive potholes for some) in the road to healthy lives. Best wishes.

  10. I'm sorry for laughing but ROTFLMBO!!! I am 1 week out from surgery so I haven't experienced dumping yet but you almost made me pop a stitch when I read this. I know it had to be so horrible for you at the time. My sister in law is almost 10 years out & she's experienced it all. She dumps with sugary, fried, greasy or oily foods. Sometimes it evens happens with sugar free foods. I hope that never happens to you ever again.

  11. Hi, just checking in! My surgery was on yesterday. Today is much better than yesterday. I'm up & walking around. Surgeon ordered me Tylenol as a pain reliever. I had to beg for something stronger. Finally got Dilaudid. My husband was definitely upset about that. But, even through that experience, I don't feel any regrets.
