Blue Cross 6 month wait !

I got assistance from Walter Lindstrom at ObesityLaw.com. It took 2 years of litigation, but it got done!

    How durable is the port?

I'm pretty active and do all my own repairs around the house. I found that sometimes I would get sore or bruise if I leaned on, or hit the port area. For my own 'piece of mind' I took a regular elastic back support and attached a piece inside to protect the port area. That was for several months after the band was put in, or right after a fill. Don't usually bother anymore; been banded over a year.
  6. It's true, that not all surgeons want to go through the training necessary to do lapbands; and often have their own preferences. For my part, I researched the band several years before it was approved in the US, took another two years to get approved, had it removed after a slip, and had it put in again after two years. That was a year ago, and I still find every day a 'process.' I never went to a seminar, but was absolutely sure about my decision. It is a tool and has helped me lose a total of 75 pounds. I have heard of no reason to have it removed unless there is a problem.

    Symptoms of slippage vs. erosion

Don't know about erosion, but had a slip. Couldn't get anything down, but water; let alone get anything to stay down! Had to take a lot of pain liquid; and finally had to have the band removed. I waited two years before getting banded again. Now I take pills with liquid yogurt or fruited jello. If the pills aren't time release, I chew them smaller. So far, so good. Don't know if that's helpful.

    insurance

I had my first lapband put in in 2004. At that time my insurance also considered it experimental. I had to go to ObesityLaw.com to get legal help. Even so, it took two years. Unfortunately, I had a slip 6 months out and had to have it removed. Since I was fully compliant I was able to get the insurance to cover a second band; though I had to go through an Appeal process. That was a year ago, and everything is fine now. Pam

    too soon?

You're kidding, right? I had to go into litigation with my insurance and it took two years from the time I started the process! Pam

I Am 60!!! Years Oldand Things are Bleak

Sounds like you need some Prozac....; I'm not kidding! I've seen depression and know how devastating it can be. Also, I'll be 60 next month; and yes,I wish I'd done this sooner! However, I'm only a year out and about 75 pounds down. I don't have any kids, so no one is going to take care of me if I don't take care of myself! Moving beyond the prejudice of being overweight I have been better able to keep up with others on the job who are probably half my age. I'm still working on an exercise routine and I keep up with the latest research in life extension. We only get this journey once so I'm going to try and make the most of it!!!

    charley horses ...

My Doc requires a nutrient check. I've found when I forget to follow the program I too get severe muscle cramps. Sometimes bananas help, or a couple calcium/magnesium caps.

For those who really really love their car...

I thought I was the only 'numbskull' who was in love with their car! I have a 2001 Vehicross; (most never heard of it), but it's my baby. To preserve it I put in an electronic rust protector. It helped my '94 Amigo.....; still strong, 200000+ miles later.

    band slippage

I had a slip in 2004. I had never had a fill, and there was a lot of bruising; so I had to have it removed. You've had your band awhile, so I think the process is to remove saline and let the band move back into place. I've had my second band a year now, and my Doc uses floro so I always know placement is ok.
