Feeling guilty for living in Florida...
We are in the Toledo, Ohio area and have been surviving the worst winter in years! Snow plowed so high I can't even see my neighbors home... Sub zero temps for months! Time to visit family in Long Boat Key?? Envoy you all in Florida but I love our summers, autumns and spring!!! Do you miss that???

Introducing myself: Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass Surgery
Jane... You seem to know what to do and what not to do! The surgeon just gave you the tool.. Visualize the 30#s as 120 sticks of butter! That is a lot of fat that you are not carrying around anymore! Look to your own success's not others! Your body is doing exactly what it needs to do. I drink a bottle of Isopure clear fruit flavored protein drink daily... It gives me 20 ozs of fluid and 40 grams of protein... NO carbs! The apple melon is good! I don't eat meat so the 80grams of protein is always a struggle but I am so worth it.. Just ask my 10 Grandkids! Lol. I also eat cocktail / small salad shrimps almost every other day! Just chew awhile and only eat 3 of the bigger ones. You've got this!! My stalls last for weeks but they always level off each time! Positive attitude and belief in the journey will be your best friend! Focusing on just ME is difficult for woman our age... But it's your turn! Learn to be selfish for YOU .. Don't think twice about others the next year! Celebrate our differences but remember you have many caring friends all sharing in this WLS journey! Please add me as a friend! I am here for ya! Dyan in Ohio ( buried in snow)

New Frozen Yogurt Find :):)
Sounds delicious but at a 1/2 cup that is way tooooo much sugar for me. My surgeon only allows 5 grams of sugar and 3 grams fat per half cup.... don't want dumping this early post op ( 10 weeks)... Maybe in a year??

Yummy AM muffin!
My daughter and I came up with an amzingly yummy morning muffin.. so easy and quick AND the best part is .. It's legal :-) Assemble in a small dish: 1.5 egg whites 1 teaspoon of baking powder 1/2 cup pumpkin puree pumpkin pie spices 1 scoop Protein powder ( we like Protizeme Peanut Butter Cookie) available in samples @ MyBariactricPantry.com 1/4 banana Mix well and microwave for 2.5 minutes "ENJOY" a warm muffin loaded with protein, low fat and no sugar! Might also be good with sugar free low fat chocolate or whatever sounds good to you.. I am waiting to add rasberries when I am ok'd to have them.. vanilla cake batter protein ppowder was great also with some fruit

I had the same issue! Could not even leave the house... at my 1 week appt my surgeon moved me to the next phase of eating.. took care of that completely! Good luck... I am 2.5 months out and have not had that problem again! Good luck, just drink and drink and then drink some more!

Surgery after 65
I am 64 and had my RNY bypass on Nov 18th... only regrets is that I did not do it years ago! I am feeling great, down 58# and doing things I haven't been able to do in 30 years! Off most meds and finding my way back to being active through Yoga, swim class for oldies, and excerise I never thought I would ever remotly like! and NOW DO The surgery was not bad at all, pain very little , just for a few days... Proteins and fluids are hard to meet requirements at first but trust they will get better with each week! Stalls are frustrating, but everyone seems to have them.. I like to think it is my bodies way of taking a minute ( or two weeks Lol), to catch up with the weight loss Please add me as a friend, If I can help in anyway...would love to help support ya! Many people have helped me daily along the way... Dyan from Ohio

December post ops
Not allowed any nuts until 6 months out.. Concerns of intestinal blockage or them getting into staple line... I live on shrimp and get a lot of protein.. Just no cocktail sauce as it is high in sugar... Lite string cheese wrapped in a piece of boiled ham ... Pan seared whitefish... Isopure protein drink or quest protein bar.. Good luck.. It was hard for me as I hadn't eaten meat for years

Kenny... Enjoy your new beginnings.. Take a heating pad to hospital.. Really helped me with some of the discomfort from the carbon dioxide gas's as they desipate throughout you! Walk walk and walk!

Fullness guilt
Kleenex stays close... My pouch lets me know with a runny nose! Even before I feel full... Measure that 1/2 cup out then be done!

I'm 60. Anyone else over 50 doing RNY?
I'm a young 64 and had RNY on Nov 18th... Best journey I have EVER been on... Surgery wasn't bad at all.. eating plan very doable and am down 52#s and 20", learning to excersise and actually almost like it! LOL OFF many meds I had been on and plan to enjoy those 10 Grandkids on the beach this year... Since I will be able to get down that low....So happy I FINALLY did this!

100 Pounds Lost
Can you visualize 100#'s as 400 sticks of butter? You must be so proud of all you have done in taking care of yourself... In turn .. Making it possible to be there for your friend in her difficult time ! CONGRATULATIONS... Your a WLS Hero!

Alcohol?
My surgeon explained that any alcohol will pass through your pouch so quickly , like dumping due to the high sugar content! And thus causing you to become very drunk due to the rapid absorption.. It is a huge no no for his patients! Your only such a short time out... Major healing still occurring.. Can't imagine vomiting would be wise
-
Chike - ill mail you what i have left over
No caffeine after RNY .. Irritating to pouch and can cause ulcers

Hi! Just starting out!
Mimilynne... Welcome really to all you newbies! Wishing you all the best in the months ahead! Seems just a minute ago I was full of nerves and questions.... I had RNY on Nov 18th and am down 52 # and never looking back.. Did not have to do any pre op diet but ins required the classes, meeting with NUT and nurses for 6 months. So glad they did as post op ...." I got it".. The forums here will be so helpful and supportive! Here's to becoming a loser! Lol

Surgery after 65
I had my RNY done on Nov 18th ( 2 months and 1week). I will be 65 in July! My surgeon was so positive about helping me go on this life extending journey! We have 10 Grandkids that I want as much time as possible with! I am a type 1 diabetic, had high b/p and open heart surgery 3 years ago .. GERD was so severe it was damaging my lung... I began surgery weighting 252 .. Today I weighed 199 and have lost 20"s .. Off most meds! Insulin down to 28 units from 350.. No GERD, high b/p gone .. The surgery was really pretty easy as is the plan you will stay on. I am eating most things, 64 ozs of fluids and 80 grams protein daily! Learning to love working out and swimming again.. Really! Even enjoying a computer app to track everything... Myfitnesspal.com... I am no comp tech but it is fun learning my way around it. I would of been doing this pre op if I knew about it. It is NEVER TOO LATE to change or reinvent ones self! My only regret is that I did not do this years ago! " Just Do It ". Easy since you get so full on 1/2 cup of food and aren't hungry anymore! Even my rheumatoid seems so much better
