December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I'm not sure if I got a bad batch but I bought a case of the fruit punch and gagged trying to drink it. It has a horrible, almost rancid after taste. I'm hoping vitamin shoppe takes returns as they're certainly not cheap! In better news, I finally received my nectar protein today and am liking that much better. I mixed the kiwi strawberry with water and crystal light pomegranate cherry. Pretty delish!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I also had regrets the day I came home. I cried like a little baby saying "why did I do this to myself?" Nearly two weeks later I'm feeling 100x better and more confident in my decision. However, If I had to do it over again I would have spent a second night in the hospital. I definitely wasn't ready to go home the next day.
  5. Newly sleeved (Dec. 2) and enjoying the first week of creamed Soups. Question is... How much is too much? The past two evenings I've been able to eat a full cup. Up until then my stomach would start speaking to me when I started to reach the 1/2 cup mark. Should I continue eating until I feel full or am I in danger of stretching my stomach and pulling a staple?
  6. Hi Sleevers!!! I was sleeved 12/2 and am still in the liquid phase of my diet. I move into mushy foods next week including bananas and soft veggies. While in the hospital, I was potassium deficient and was given a supplement. I've checked out the Vitamins at drug stores and they only provide 3% of your daily allowance. Any ideas on increasing my potassium intake? I was thinking of getting creative with my Protein Shakes by adding yogurt, berries and spinach and then having a banana as a snack. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Are any of the early December Sleevers exercising yet? It's been snowing here so I haven't been able to get out for a walk so I've considered going to the mall or Target to get in a half mile or so. My Dr. only have restrictions on lifting weights so I supposed I could hop on a treadmill too if so desired.

    Am I eating too much?

Thanks! I think I'll take your Dr's advice for the next few days. I have strict guidelines for all other foods but not for the liquid phases.

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Im due for surgery on the 16th. I asked my doctor about it because I saw a few comments about it. He said its not going to hold you in like people think because your insides are still going tomove around. Most doctors don't automatically give you one but they are available upon request. Have you asked your doctor about it. I had a friend who liked the binder and also one who said it was uncomfortable and not worth it. That sounds like a great idea! While riding in the car I feel like my insides are just bouncing around! Pretty gross!

I also had a hiatal hernia removed as well as some scar tissue on my liver. My surgeon explained that the hiatal hernia is rather common with these surgeries. My surgery was 12/2 and I'm still pretty sore. I've tried to go without any pain medication but it's pretty unbearable. Good luck with your recovery. I highly recommend walking as much as possible (I did laps around the kitchen/living room.) I was finally able to sleep in a bed three days after surgery for a few hours at a time. You're in my thoughts and prayers for a speedy recovery!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I had a terrible migraine from day 2-4 but felt great the next two weeks. I chalked it up to caffeine and sugar withdrawal, along with protein increase without fatty intake. I'm crossing my fingers your stomach handles the protein much better than mine did! Good luck!

    December Fitness Challenge

Hi Mary. I was told not to lift weights for 6 weeks, partly because I had hernia repair when I had my sleeve. I was allowed to start doing light cardio at 2 weeks.

If you hire a trainer, I would be sure to question him ahead of time and make sure he (or she) understands what your injury is and what steps need to be taken to avoid aggravating it. Thanks for the advice. I also had a hiatal hernia removed so I'll be sure to consult with my Dr. on a date when I may begin lifting. As for cardio, I think two weeks is great!

    December Fitness Challenge

So, how long did you all wait after surgery to start weight training and cardio? I'm a week out and have only been told not to lift anything over 25 lbs and to walk as much as possible. Also, did anyone check with previous doctors prior to beginning an exercise regime? I've had spine fusion surgery and am weary of getting a trainer that will cause more harm than good. Thanks!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

Had my surgery one week ago today and also decided to take the second week off from work. I still have some pain as well as pressure where my incisions are. Also, I'm not quite sure I could stay awake the full nine hours as the pain meds have made me pretty drowsy. Weighed myself today and I'm down 12 lbs since surgery, 31 lbs since I started the pre-op diet. It works!!!!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

I am thinking of looking into those protein shots but I need to find a good easily absorbed and digestible one like the 100% whey isolate. Has anyone had any experience with those? I was thinking a could drink that since it is significantly less to consume then the 8 oz shake they want me to drink. My surgeon insisted I drink the New Whey Liquid Protein the day before surgery and then the first week after. They also gave it to me the day after surgery in the hospital. The grape flavor was tolerable but it's definitely no treat! Try using half of the bottle and diluting it with water and then drink the rest a few hours later. Good luck!!!

I had similar issues and was told is was normal due to the high protein, low fat, low sugar pre-op diet. Believe me, once you have surgery, you'll wish you had those same issues! I was sleeved 12/2 and would slap a baby for a BM!!! LOL!!!
