I ate a piece of pizza last night..... And I liked it!

Thank you proudgranny. I believe you have summed things up perfectly and I appreciate your calming words of wisdom. I know I deserved a slap on the hand for the pizza and boy is my lesson learned!!! It's a tough crowd here and perhaps my sensitive nature got the best of me. My friends have always told me I wear my heart on my sleeve and in doing that, I'm often hurt by harsh words even if they are meant to help. Sometimes the intent of a post is lost when judgement is passed. To those who voiced their opinion, thank you. The pizza was a slip-up and I am 100% back on track since it happened Friday. New close this out, I'd like to end on a very happy note with some pictures I took today. The first photo was taken five weeks ago at my highest, 317. Today I weigh 283 and was just tickled pink by my progress. I hadn't noticed a difference in myself until I put on that same sweater and noticed how differently it felt and looked. God bless you all. Have a lovely night!

    Best and worst "compliments"

I had to let my live-in boyfriend go after my day- long appt with the surgeon, psychologist and NUT. came home so excited and ready for this new lifestyle change. I shared all the information I had just learned with him, including the tough recovery and lifestyle change that was going to affect us both. He had absolutely no interest or intention of changing with me although he had tried every diet fad around. He just couldn't share the excitement with me. I was so determined to start a new, healthy life that I knew having him in it would derail or sabotage my journey. It has been three months since he moved out and while the breakup was heartbreaking, I have no regrets. With every pound I lose I have my family and close friends to celebrate and support me. I prefer to think of losing him as just losing 300 lbs of guilt and frustration!

    Itching like crazy!

I also had an allergic reaction to the dermabond. Itchy red rash all over my stomach. I used some cortisone (not on incisions of course) and took Benadryl and it subsided after a few days.

I ate a piece of pizza last night..... And I liked it!

Yeesh! I didn't mean to start a debate here. Frankly it discourages me from posting my struggles. I suppose I expected more "Bad choice Mary. You can do this" responses rather than being told I think I know more than my doctor and I shouldn't have had the surgery if I wasn't serious about the decision. We all were given different information and instructions by our Dr and NUT. At three weeks I am cleared for low carb tortillas, cheese and soft vegetables. I considered this prior to eating a slice of cheese pizza with my tiny, pinky fingernail sized bites. I haven't experienced any nausea since three days after surgery and didn't when I made the bad choice to eat pizza. I am in no way condoning my mistake. I take full responsibility for my actions and immediately felt guilty and returned to my list of approved foods. Let's all try to be supportive of each other instead of standing on soapboxes lecturing. Yes, I admit I made a bad choice. But all I'm feeling now is that I wish I had never shared this info with the group.

For someone not trying to be preachy, you are certainly doing well at it. I certainly don't think I know better than my doctor. I made an error in judgement and reached out to a support group for just that... SUPPORT!!!

I ate a piece of pizza last night..... And I liked it!

Oh boy! Now if definitely feel guilty!!! But you're all correct. I have followed my Dr's orders and restrictions religiously and screwed up last night. I should have eaten off of my list before the pizza arrived so I wasn't hungry. You'll be happy to know I did follow that rule this morning when my father announced he was coming over with donuts for the kids. I prepared my egg and spinach beforehand and didn't even think twice about the dozen donuts sitting on the table. Thank you for the tough love. It's not always easy to hear but it is definitely helpful. I just love this outlet, you all are wonderful and supportive!

    PB2 Powdered Peanut Butter

PB2 is one of my favorites!!! I love adding it my protein drinks, not only for the yummy taste but also for the extra protein and good fats! Thanks for the recipe link, I'll definitely be using it!

Problem with Nosy Co-Worker! Need Advice!

When asked about my recent leave of absence by co-workers, I enjoyed giving numerous ridiculous responses such as "Getting a face lift for my 36th birthday!" or "Finally getting those butt implants so I look like JLo". Needless to say, there were no follow-up questions.

    Best and worst "compliments"

I'm only three weeks out from surgery and every time my mom or dad come by (which is almost daily) they say something to the effect of "hey skinny!" I'm also being asked daily how much weight I've lost. Is it horrible that I'm beginning to find this very irritating? I'm about 150 lbs away from skinny (SW 317 CW 273) and every time they call me skinny I just cringe because I'm not and it makes me feel worse about myself. How do I tell my incredible loving and supporting parents this? They were there waiting for me in the hospital and my recovery and have been so supportive of my choice. Is it best that I just keep these thoughts to myself?

    Suggestions for the "Creamy" stage

Yeah, my first go with an egg didn't go over to well either. My Dr's instructions were to only eat 1/4th and I'm glad I did because I thought for sure it was going to come right back up.

2lb gain at 10 days post op?

I take it all back. Stepped on the scale this morning and down another 3.5 lbs!!! There is hope for us yet!!!
  19. Vegasneon- When were you sleeved? I ask because I had spine fusion surgery four years ago (L1-L5) and am still dealing with increasing pain with any activity. My back surgeon and primary doctor have both told me that my weight is a definite factor so I had the sleeve 12/2 and am waiting for another 50+ lbs to come off before considering any more treatments. I do take hydrocodone 10/325 which relieves a lot of the daily pain. Have you tried steroid injections? I had them prior to surgery and then again six months ago. I wouldn't say they're a cure-all but it definitely alleviates some pain. Hope you find some relief. Mary

    Suggestions for the "Creamy" stage

I'm also in the purée stage but am not cleared for meat, chicken, etc for a few more weeks. I'm loving the mini lite baby bell cheese, oatmeal with milk and refried Beans. Today for lunch I had a 1/4- 1/2 cup of refried black beans with a tbsp of sour cream. SO GOOD!!! I heated up a low-carb tortilla but liked the beans and sour cream so much I didn't eat it. Weird thing... I used to love bananas and had one at Breakfast every day. I tried to eat one today and it was awful! I can only hope my taste buds start to hate pizza and chocolate too! Lol. Good luck on your diet. I think there are some recipe threads on the post-op site if you enjoy cooking!

  22. When can we go back to ibuprofen? I used to take 800mg a day for my back pain and I miss it terribly.

Eating - 3 weeks post op

I am also three weeks post op and by your post I see I am not being as diligent as you. I've basically been eating when hungry which turns out to be a cup of decaf with sugar free non dairy creamer then half a scrambled egg for Breakfast. lunch is usually a half cup of Soup (usually tomato, potato or black bean.) Somewhere in there I try to drink a nectar protein and then have a lite baby bell cheese and some oatmeal made with milk for dinner. Somedays I can get that second Protein Drink in and others I just can't stomach it. Now that the list of foods is getting greater I see I need to do more planning ahead. Any advice for an unorganized woman who works ten hours a day from home but hates to cook? Lol

2lb gain at 10 days post op?

Hey Michelle- I'm feeling your pain as I keep gaining and losing the same 3 lbs for the past week. I was sleeved 12/2 and I expected a more drastic and continual weight loss. I've gotten so bad I weigh myself several times a day. I think we should all relax and let our new stomachs settle in before we make ourselves crazy!!! Keep venting here and reaching out for support, it helps to hear similar stories!
