  1. Yay! That is awesome Kiap82..It is amazing how good those things that feel so good and that thin people have never even thought about... just tieing our shoes, crossing our legs, seat belts...etc..etc... :D Shellvsg, that is very interesting. I think there is a lot of truth to what you are saying, but I feel like I'm going to gain weight if I go off of what I am doing. (Head stuff)...But I totally think you are right!!! Cheers to you both!!! :D :D

  2. Good afternoon friends...Thank you AtlantaRed, Deez, Wombat, Sabrina, and Wendy for your answers and information.I REALLY appreciate it! I read just about every word that the "Brighaman" had to say...I wish I could of read it day one after surgery because I have made a few mistakes..Oop's! Oh well...I have learned so much just being on this site and all that you have to say...Thanks ...Thanks.. Thanks.Deez, so glad you are doing so well now. Well I am off to buy a scale (food scale) and to the gym. Have a amazing day friends.

  3. Hello All....SabrinaMarie I too am kinda in the dark about the after surgery process. I don't have a NUT or any after surgery instructions for after the first 4 weeks. I am doing the bouncing around on the scale 1 pound or 2 and have not lost anything for awhile. My question to everyone is: Do you include the calories from your Protein Shakes into your daily calories and how many calories should I be having each day? My Protein shakes are about 280 calories, for 60 gr protein. I have been eating lots of chicken breast and cooked veg's. Yogurt, and chicken soup.I kinda feel afraid to eat other foods. Because I think I won't lose weight if I do...I walk just about every day and going to the gym starting Mon. Congrat's to everybody on doing so well.

  4. Hi Robin.... I too have had problems with the acid reflux, so I have been taking a antacid morning and night and that has helped. Plus make sure your not drinking Water before you eat. I was told to try to drink 64 oz. of Water a day...Good luck :)

    Hey Everyone,

Happy New Year!! I am hoping everyone will have an incredible 2014!

I'm a little stressed out myself (does not negate that 2014 is going to be incredible!). I will be seeing my surgeon tomorrow and my primary care doctor on Monday and will be talking to them about some of this stuff but I do want to post here to see if anyone else is experiencing what I am.

So I have been dehydrated. I'm not experiencing dizziness but my skin feels like a reptile and my urine is pretty dark. I'm at about 50 ozs of water a day which helps somewhat with the color of my urine. However, I feel like something is wrong with my body. Something feels off. For the last two days I've had some sensation in my lower back which could be due to the dehydration. I'm not sure. In any case, I am anxious about it.

My second issue is I've been getting acid reflux pretty badly. Sometimes I can't even sip my water. I started taking antacid otc med about three days ago to combat it somewhat. Without it, I wouldn't even be able to eat the little I am eating. It is annoying and I'm praying that it doesn't last for a long time.

Is anyone else having similar experiences? I absolutely DO NOT regret the surgery at all. I know the body is a very mercurial thing and issues arise. But it's nice to not be alone.

    Again, Happy New Year Everybody

    Robin

  5. Gamergirl ....Thank you very much for your reply>

Soooooo.... As I sit here reading all this information and eating a "Yoplait Light" I notice it has 16g of carbs in it...At the risk of sounding stupid, how many Carbs are ok to eat a day? I had surgery Dec.3rd 2013.

People set carb limits differently but the recommendation for those who are insulin resistant and carb addicted is to divide your protein/fat/carb ratios into 40/40/20. For me, at an 800 calorie diet that's about 80/36/40 gms respectively.

I say anything under 50 gms is good for low-carb sleevers, but I'd be interested to hear what others have to say on this topic too.

  6. Wondering How much Vit. D should a person take a day? Thanks for the explaination about how Vit. D works...Very interesting :)

Ah ha!!! A question I can answer!!! Vitamin D is fat soluble. Almost ALL my obese patients have low D because it sort of gets absorbed into the fat where it can't be used for bones or be measured in blood work. Less fat to absorb D = higher Vitamin D....ALSO some of the newer studies show higher D levels actually help burn fat, go figure. Whatever, it's a win win for you!!!!

  7. I would say .... Change how you are thinking about what you have done (surgery). Try to think positive thoughts ...Calm yourself down and go slow..My Dr. prescribed me Omerprazole 20mg for that gurgling feeling. Call your Dr. I hope you feel better soon...Just keep thinking about how good you will feel a month from now... Good luck to you! :)

I have a question. Anyone regretting their decision? No one has said anything so I was just wondering. I'm having a problem with drinking. Doesn't matter how small the sip or how slow I can feel it go through my sleeve and it gurgels (sp?) At me every time.

I was sleeved on Dec. 9th and I spent days this week bawling over my decision to do this to myself. I can drink Water ok but definitely not as much as I need. Protein Shakes (no matter which ones as I've tried 5) throw me into a hypoglycemic attack and I even passed out a couple times this week. Dr said it's likely alimentary hypoglycemia as I get terribly sick with vomiting and diarrhea after the pass out stage. I can drink a few sips without getting sick but any more than that no matter how long it takes to drink them make me sick. So, I am basically getting close to 0 Protein and maybe 100 calories a day in jello/pudding or a few bites of Soup. Not good... I'm just praying that moving on to more solids next week will help.

  8. I agree Raine, this site is full of wonderful information....Good luck to you on your surgery and Merry Christmas!

    Hi sleevers!

I'm Raine. I just joined the site. I've been reading your posts for about a month. so helpful. My surgery is on 12/23 and I'm freaking happy and freaking out. :D I cannot believe I am here. So happy to be a December Sleever. I prayed for a Dec. date and got it.

  9. Happy Birthday gmanbat....Wishing you the best! I had a great surgery on Dec.3rd.. Now working on the successful part. :D

Greeting and best wishes to all December sleevers!

I am one of the hosts on this forum and I have a request.

December is my birthday, 65 this month.

Give me the gift of having a very successful surgery!

    :) :) :)

  10. I went to the GNC store also to buy Protein Drink. The guy there was very knowledgable... He sold me "Super sport Cellucor" 30 grams of Protein with whey protein Isolate...Good luck

Which clear Protein Drinks are the post sleevers enjoying? I bought regular shakes and just saw I'll need Clear Liquids for a while. Silly me but glad I caught it now.

I am on clear liquids to until Monday!

I bought some protein liquid at pharmacy when I picked up my rx. I poured 2 oz of it in 2oz of Water. I also had ordered the Unjury chicken broth packets. I can only do half a packet at a time. Hubby and I went to gnc to pick up Isopure but they only sold it buy case at the one we stopped at. I didn't feel like going to the other gnc by that point.

Non protein drinking the heck out of water, propel grape, and herbal teas! I finally had sf Popsicle last night, and wondered why I waited so long!

  11. Gosh AtlantaRed...Sorry to hear you are having so much pain...When I left the hospital (1 night stay) They told me to just take Tylenol or Advil. And my Dr. told me not to start my vit. until about 10 days out.. I spent a good week after surgery doing lots of laying down ... Maybe you are pushing yourself to hard... Good luck

Okay, so I've decided on a theory. My theory is that whatever they numbed me with for surgery started wearing off Tuesday evening. That's when my pain started increasing. I got out of the house fir the first time yesterday, took 2 dilaudid before going, didn't last very long and had increased pain for the rest of the day.

Also, had originally tolerated my Vitamins and am no longer.

This is frustrating as my 2 appts w my surgeon focused on pain control as I have issues with pain meds not working. I begged him to have a backup plan in case the dilaudid didn't work. He us an hour away and I told him my pcp was willing to help prescribe meds at his request because clearly if I was calling due to pain, I wouldnt really be looming to drive for 2 hours while my pcp is around the corner.

So, now I have to go to his office tomorrow and bring my meds so he can see that I haven't taken them all and am asking for more! My pcp could do that too.

I can't get my walks because I'm in too much pain when not reclined. I can barely sit jingle any time. I wasn't even going to get time off if work (working from home 4 hours each night) but got off a week. Supposed to start back Sunday.

So frustrated as he told me he believed me about pain control and it wouldn't be a problem.

  12. I am from Oregon but traveled to Florida to have surgery. My Bestee lives there and I was able to get right in for surgery. I flew in on Sunday evening, had all my tests done on Monday and had surgery Tuesday morning. One week out I had lost 18 pounds and 3 days later I flew back to Oregon. I am 53 years young and have gone up and down with my weight all my life. I feel like this surgery has given me a opportunity to pay more attention to my stomach and the feeling of being full and to stop eating when I feel that way. I am dealing with the head hunger thing but I just keep in mind that its only in my mouth for a second and I am 25 pounds down already and that in itself feels better than anything I could eat! I am 16 days out and it gets easier by the day. Although Christmas is around the corner, I just keep telling myself how great that it will be that I won't gain weight this year over the holiday for the first time in my life. Oh.... And my daughter is getting married in Hawaii in June and even though my X's wife is as skinny as a bean, I will feel good about myself and the progress I have made! 6 months.... Hummmm... I wonder what I will weigh? I know it will be less than I was 16 days ago....MY advice for today ....Never trust a fart! Cheers my fellow Dec. sleevers!
