  1. It is a hard decision - I don't want to do it because I remember how much I did not like the 2 weeks before and then the couple of months after. I absolutely hated crushing pills - the taste of some of them made me nauseous. But, I also can't live like this with the reflux being so bad. I guess the 2 weeks before and the couple of months after are a short period of time to suffer compared to a life of reflux and heartburn. Nausea is a terrible feeling - have you told your doc? Maybe they can give you something for it. I hope everything goes well for you, I will keep you in my thoughts and send you positive energy on your surgery day. It is scary but I also remember just going through the motions and then things got better with each passing day.
  2. I just downloaded the Baritastic app (thank you for suggesting it) - it is really great because it understands our needs. I am getting ready to have a revision of my sleeve in January (because I have had terrible GERD) and want to really do it right this time. This app has timers for time to take to eat and time in between meals and drinking, trackers, a journal, you can link your fitbit, it has information about the different surgeries, links to resources, recipes, and a link to forums. And it is free!
  3. I have used Sparkpeople.com in the past - found that the variety of foods is better than any other app - they also have ways to track Water and fitness and it syncs with my fitbit for my steps.Haven't used it for awhile but now that surgery is a little over a month away, I decided I should start. Also, depending on your type of surgery, they have special forums.
  4. Nailsbyniki - hope you are doing OK. I am scheduled to have a revision from sleeve to bypass Jan 5 2016. Not sure I am doing the right thing, but feel like I have to do something since my reflux is so bad. I worry about the problems with malabsorption and not being able to get enough nutrition - it is good to know that if there is a problem, something can be done.
  5. I am scheduled to have a revision from VSG to bypass on Jan 5. Keep wondering if I am doing the right thing. But I have been having horrible reflux and heartburn even on Protonix so I keep thinking I have to do something. I hope Deezjeanz that everything goes well for you - you will have to let me know how it goes.

    Is there a slower loser?

I am a slow loser like the rest of you - I was sleeved Jan 7, lost 15 pounds in the first couple of weeks and then nothing for awhile. I had lost about 30 lbs prior to surgery in the 6 months of classes I had to take and then another 15 or so during the pre-op diet. Over the past 6 weeks I have lost only 8 pounds. For awhile during that 6 weeks I was only eating 600 calories a day, 70-90 gms of Protein, drinking my Water, low carbs and low fat and the scale didn't budge. Also, at the beginning of the 6 weeks I started exercising about 5 days a week (3-4 days of strength training and 30-60 minutes of cardio 5 days a week). I was not feeling very good - low energy and my workouts felt very hard to get through. So, I upped my carbs a little and my calories to closer to 1000 and now I feel better and the scale started moving again. I have my moments when I think that the surgery wasn't worth it, but then I remember all the years I went through and couldn't lose at all. So I am grateful for what I have lost up until this point - I feel better than I have in a long time.

    Workouts

They also have a Zumba sentao class which is chair Zumba (you can look for a class near you on the Zumba site). I am 58 and still weigh quite a bit (224 lb) and have bad knees but I take regular Zumba classes. I have found that you can modify some of the moves (like minimize any of the jumping type moves) and work out at a lower intensity (especially in the beginning). It is very fun and I highly recommend it.

    Exercise causing weight gain

I haven't gained yet but have stayed the same weight for a couple of months. Have been working out hard - 4 hours of heavy strength training a week and at least 30 minutes of cardio a day (a couple of days a week I have been hitting 90 minutes). It's good to know I am not the only one.

    April Fitness Challange!

I am committing to weight training 4 days a week and cardio (elliptical, walking, Zumba) for 240 minutes a week. Also want to add in rower 2 days a week (but will start slow with 5 minutes each time) and biking 2 days a week for 10 minutes in addition to cardio mentioned previously.

    Activity trackers

I have a fitbit one which I clip to my bra - I find it easier than wearing a bracelet type activity tracker - and it doesn't show. I have to dress up somewhat for work and a rubber looking bracelet just doesn't look right all the time. It has been quite accurate and also links up with My Fitness Pal and Sparkpeople. I find it motivating as I am always trying to improve the number of steps I take.

    gel-cap multi vitamin?

I was told by my surgeon and my NUT that the gummies do not have everything in them that you need. They recommend Bariatric Advantage capsules with iron - you can buy them online from Bariatric Advantage but I get mine from my doctor's office.
  12. I was sleeved Jan, 7, 2014 (SW 248, CW 226). I am keeping calories around 600-700, Protein 70-90 gms, carbs around 50 gms, fat around 20 gms. Having trouble getting in 64 oz. of Fluid - getting closer to 48 oz. Exercising quite a bit - both strength training (4 times a week) and cardio (6 times a week). In general feeling pretty good except weight loss has really slowed - lucky if I am losing 1-2 lbs per week.

    3 weeks out...struggling!

Thanks for posting this. I'm very much also struggling this week with water and Protein shakes. I'm 3 1/2 weeks out and kinda miserable with the food water circus. Where do I buy Unjury? You can buy Unjury online at their website: http://www.unjury.com/store/protein/ -- it is pretty good because it isn't too thick and it tastes pretty good. They also have recipes on the website.
  14. Same thing has happened to me - I started working out and weight loss slowed - in some weeks haven't lost any weight. I am working out 3 times a week with strength training and 4 times a week with cardio. I am eating 600-700 calories/day, getting in around 80 gms of protein, 50 gms of carbs and 20 gms of fat. Not quite getting all the fluid in but close. I have noticed that my clothes are looser and of course, because of the exercise I feel better and stronger. So, I am going to keep working the plan and eventually something will have to change.

    Frustrated

Yes, stick to your plan and the stall will break, Between weeks 3-6 I lost only a 1/2 lb. the entire time. I was very frustrated and even went over what I had been eating with my NUT (I faithfully track my food and activity every day with Sparkpeople). My NUT said I was doing everything right (600 - 700 calories, 60-80 grams of protein, around 50 grams of carbs and 25 grams of fat, 64 oz. of fluid) and to just keep it up. So I stuck with the plan and sure enough in week 7 I lost 5 lb. It was definitely a lesson in patience and persistence.
  19. I had surgery on 1/7/14 and it took me awhile to get into exercising. I hadn't exercised in quite some time because it was very uncomfortable at my higher weight. So it was hard to convince myself that I needed to do it. I started out by trying to increase my walking (I wear a FitBit and often had days with only about 1,000 steps since I have a sedentary job). Once I was cleared for exercise at 4 weeks from surgery, I hired a trainer for once a week to start some strength training. Today I just signed up for a "First Step" program which is for 6 weeks with a group trainer 2 days a week. So by the time I am 8 weeks post-op I will be working out in the gym 3 days a week and doing some type of walking every day.
  20. Sorry - that is 10 grams of protein
  21. I use Unjury chocolate splendor 3 scoops and 3/4 cup reduced fat Jif peanut butter. Makes 11 balls for 131 calories per ball and 10 HMS of protein. The recipe is on the Unjury website.

    Exercise?

27 pounds at 1 month is good. I hit a stall between weeks 3 and 6 where I lost 1/2 lb. during that whole time. Just lost 5 lbs this past week so I am hoping the stall is over. At 7 weeks I have lost 20 lbs -- but I lost quite a bit in the pre-op phase so I figure my body is adjusting.

    Exercise?

I started working out with a trainer a couple of weeks ago for strength training and have been trying to increase my cardio (not my favorite thing - but I know it is necessary). I just joined a 6 week program at a local gym called First Step which is designed for people just kind of getting back into exercise. They give you 2 days a week with a trainer for 1/2 hour - I am pretty excited about it. Also joined a program at work where you get points for every minute you exercise and then prizes are awarded for the top exercisers - hoping this will motivate me to exercise more.

    Where are my maryland sleevers?

I work at UMD and live in Northeast Baltimore. Are you going to a support group?

    Where are my maryland sleevers?

I had my surgery Jan 7, 2014. It was a very easy recovery with very little pain and only a little nausea for the first few days. I had my surgery done at MedStar Franklin Square Medical Center by Dr. You - he is terrific!
