How long were you in the hospital?
-
I'm March 10 too...and on lovely day one of liquids. I'm pretty excited, but almost more scared of these two weeks than the actual surgery. This weekend, I could not stop stuffing food in my mouth. I felt so bad about it, but just couldn't stop. I'm going to give the two week liquids my all, though...to give myself the best chance of a safe surgery. It's just barely lunchtime on the first day, though, and I already have a headache and feel weak. Yikes! Tomorrow will be better, right? Ok, one day at a time.
I didn't know my surgery date until after dinner last night! I got an email from my surgeon saying they could schedule me on March 10th if i can start liquid diet today! Well, of course i am ready to get this process going, so I told them definitely, I am ready....I am also away for a work related trip, so I am at a conference today that had Breakfast, mid morning snack, lunch and afternoon snack all provided...I am sipping my Water and Protein shake....

I am! Nice to meet you, surgery twin!
Nice to meet you! Good luck on your journey! What type of pre-op diet do you have?

I called twice a week until they told me I was denied. When I reapplied, I didn't call them at all, then one day I get a call from my surgeon's office telling me I was approved. Surgery date tomorrow...actually in about 7 hours from now!!!
Why were you denied the first time?

Tentatively March 21st pending insurance approval. Everything is submitted, so I'm just trying to be patient.

I got a call today from my insurance nurse educator. She asked me some questions about my physicians follow up support program. She also gave me my reference number and the phone number to call to check the status of my paperwork. So I called and learned that they have everything, but it is still being reviewed. I did learn March 21st is the expected date of surgery they were given. So curious how often I should call to check my status. I want to call everyday, but don't want to be too over the top.

So I have a 6 month attempt but it was 2 years ago. So we will see. They started tracking again in January just in case. I am just ready!

They are submitting my info to insurance today. I know this is in Gods hands. I just pray they don't require a 6 month diet. When my navigator called to check benefits at the first of January, they told him they evaluate each case by case so they couldn't say if there were requirements other than the 40bmi or 35 with comorbidity. I have found I have severe sleep apnea. My bmi is 46. I am so ready to have this tool to help me achieve my goals.
So please send some positive vibe to me today.

My EGD is March 2nd. They should be submitting to insurance later this week or next week for approval.
I am so ready for it!

Thank you for the responses. I should get my machine later this week so was hoping I see results. I never fall asleep during the day, but feel tired, hard to focus, ect. I hope I get positive results.

So my bariatric clinics office called my insurance yesterday to verify coverage and I have united Healthcare through my husband that works for at&t. They could tell him that bariatrics is covered under my plan, but they could not tell him any specific guidelines other than the 40bmi with no co-morbidities or 35 bmi with co-morbidities. They said they just need to fax in my history and then they will determine what needs to happen from there...Isn't that just weird? you would think they would have set in stone that they require a 6 month monitored diet or whatever. So I guess I will just wait and see what they say. They are sending in 5 years worth of documentation that i have been obese over 5 years and multiple attempts to lose weight through my physician, so hopefully they won't require another diet.

On average, how long did it take you to get from initial consult to surgery? I had my consult on January 6th. I have my psych eval on the 16th, I meet with pulmonologist on the 20th, attend a seminar also on the 20th, then on the 27th see Cardiologist, Dietician and Excercise physiologist.
I am thinking i am doing pretty good with getting things scheduled really quick. I still have to get my consult with my actual surgeon, but i think that comes after all these other things take place, but just curious how long it took you to get a surgery date?
I went i April for my inital visit to see if I was a candidate for the surgery. Then went back in May after qualified and started on pre op diet last wk of May thru July 28, surgery on 29th 13.

Does anyone have any experience with this plan? I'm switching to it effective January 1st. I know it covers bariatric surgery but I don't know what guidelines need to be met yet.

My surgeon told me that several years ago, they used a 50 French endoscope to guide to remove the stomach. They realized that was too big, so most surgeons use a 32-42 now. I know mine used a 34 on me. That makes it small enough that they removed the stretchy part of the stomach.
