So my bariatric clinics office called my insurance yesterday to verify coverage and I have united Healthcare through my husband that works for at&t. They could tell him that bariatrics is covered under my plan, but they could not tell him any specific guidelines other than the 40bmi with no co-morbidities or 35 bmi with co-morbidities. They said they just need to fax in my history and then they will determine what needs to happen from there...Isn't that just weird? you would think they would have set in stone that they require a 6 month monitored diet or whatever. So I guess I will just wait and see what they say. They are sending in 5 years worth of documentation that i have been obese over 5 years and multiple attempts to lose weight through my physician, so hopefully they won't require another diet.

I lived on chicken broth, beef broth, whey Protein shakes, sf popsicles, sf fudge sicles freedom, sf puddings, applesauce. Iwent from 266 to 242 I weigh 194 @ 6 moa. Wow...my dr just requires 2 weeks and that seems like a long time.

On average, how long did it take you to get from initial consult to surgery? I had my consult on January 6th. I have my psych eval on the 16th, I meet with pulmonologist on the 20th, attend a seminar also on the 20th, then on the 27th see Cardiologist, Dietician and Excercise physiologist. I am thinking i am doing pretty good with getting things scheduled really quick. I still have to get my consult with my actual surgeon, but i think that comes after all these other things take place, but just curious how long it took you to get a surgery date?

I went i April for my inital visit to see if I was a candidate for the surgery. Then went back in May after qualified and started on pre op diet last wk of May thru July 28, surgery on 29th 13. You did 2 months of pre-op diet? What did it consist of? I have stopped carbonated beverages, but will learn more after meeting with my dietician.

Does anyone have any experience with this plan? I'm switching to it effective January 1st. I know it covers bariatric surgery but I don't know what guidelines need to be met yet.
