    Kids Say the Darnedest Things

To tell or not to tell

When I was considering the surgery I only told a VERY select few. No more than 5 people. I was afraid people would judge me and also what if it didn't work and I was a failure again. I had surgery a little over a year and a half ago and people say "You look great what are you doing?" If they are closer to me I will now tell them about the surgery and others I just say diet and exercise (even though I used to hate it when people told me that is how they lost weight!). My boyfriend is especially critical of what I do and do not eat or how much I don't eat. He has actually said to me he misses us going to restaurants and eating big meals together. I go out of my way to spend that time talking to him so we can still have a special time together where we are out, but I am not eating what I used to eat. I do think people pay attention to my portion sizes or at least I feel like they do. I often fill my plate and take bites here and there of this and that, but usually end up covering up my plate with a napkin. Only a few times has anyone ever made a comment about how much I ate. I think part of the process of prepping yourself to have the surgery you start to discover your take on how to handle telling everyone or not. Have a Great Day!

    Plateau

Have you tried any exercise? I found when I hit my first plateau even a little bit of exercise each day (just walking in the neighborhood) started my metabolism back up and helped with wanting to give in to the mental piece of the battle.

    Help...I fell off the wagon

I Have felt off the wagon lately too. It's not that I eat alot. It's what I eat. Crazy how the bad for you stuff goes down so easily and in large amounts but the good for you food goes down more difficultly and definitely in much smaller portions. I think we can get back on track making healthy food choices. It won't be easy at first but each day we make good choices we'll get stronger and it will become more and more easy.
  7. Thinking I need to get back on the site for more support to make better decisions for myself. Sometimes I need a reminder of what I am suppose to be doing and the best way to do it!

This site definitely keeps me focused and in the zone. I am 3 weeks out and I read and respond voraciously.

      Miss Mac

I found this site in August of 2013, and had my surgery 12/23/2013. Except for the two days I was in the hospital, I have peeked in on my bariatric brothers and sisters every day. They definitley remind me that I am not in this alone. I am glad you came back. We kept the front porch light on for you.

Is Food More or Less of an Issue Now?

I fell like food is still a big issue for me. I think about it often. After having this procedure I now understand that food is my go to when I am hungry, bored, sad, looking for entertainment and socialization, etc. This is a really hard habit to change. There are many suggestions out there on how to change this pattern of thinking and what to do when emotions are the reason for consuming foods, but it is really hard for me to do. I have not found a solution that has worked for me. People talk about cooking meals and such. I have found the portions I can consume are so small there is not a reason to cook because I make too much. The leftovers then sits in the fridge for a week because I do not want to eat the same thing daily. When I purchase food to make meals I am still buying too much. I haven't mastered cooking smaller meals because it still does not look like "enough" food as I am preparing it. It is something I am working on, but I do find food as a constant challenge. Good Topic!
