Praying for your recovery, and for this to work for you. Thankfully you have a surgeon that will do what needs to be done to help you be successful. Take each day one at a time, and know you are not alone, we will keep in touch and pray for you. I am going to revise from the band to RNY, hopefully soon if my insurance will approve. keep us posted.

    Waiting on Insurance Approval!

Welcome Musiclady2014! I agree, this board is awesome. I am fulfilling insurance requirements too. One more NUT class, and the letter from the psych eval/testing. Hoping for March or April surgery date. Congrats on making a decision for you and for your future. You will definitely learn a lot here, and they are very supportive. Don't hesitate to share your ups and your downs, sometimes we will have them and it is easier to know you are not alone. Just a little shout out for "My Fitness Pal" -great tool to help you along the way, free apps available. Prayers for your journey. Keep in touch.

    Frustrating day.

I can imagine how frustrating that can be. Hang in there and take it one day at a time. I don't know about you, but my weeks have been flying by...it is already February! Can you believe it? Turned in my Psych tests, have to wait for his approval, 2 more classes and my next appointment is in a week and a half. Praying all comes together for us all soon.

    Newbie..sort of!

Welcome! I love this site....learning so much, and everyone is so encouraging. So you don't feel alone in the process...and that has been awesome. Good luck on your journey!
  6. Way to go! Good Luck on your approval....I will be re-submitting mine pretty soon.
  7. Thank you for your input...I am feeling better. I was just a bit taken back w/the 2 quite lengthy tests. I have already looked thru and filled them out. It was different, but I just answered honestly. Here's to good results!!!
  8. Has anyone else had to take these personality tests as a part of the psych evaluation? I had my appt. today and at the end of the session my Dr said I needed to fill out these two tests, return them and he would make his decision on my bypass surgery after he gets the scores back. I am a band to RNY revision, so I had the psych evaluation before that surgery in 2007 w/someone else and didn't have to go thru quite this much. Just wondering what it was like for others. thanks.

    Hi! Just starting out!

Hi MiniLynne....this is a very informative board. I have learned a lot. I am fairly new too. Hoping to have my RNY and my band removed early April. It is exciting and nerve racking at the same time. Can't wait to start my new life, be healthier and get to be more active in all the kids and grandkids lives. Good luck!
  11. Hang in there! It does go by fast. I decided to have my band removed and to have revision to RNY the first part of November. Even though my insurance does not require 6 months visits, I do have to go thru 5 nutrition classes, 1 support group meeting, a psych evaluation before re-submitting my revision request. they approved the band removal, but denied the original RNY request. I have actually re-learned a lot from the classes I have been to. And I have been using the "My Fitness Pal" app to track my food and my exercise. I believe it will help make me do better once I do have my surgery. So....make some mini goals and use this time to get yourself and habits ready for your new life!!

    fitness pal

I love my fitness pal! I am using it for my Pre-Op weight loss. Have to lose 5% and get my NUT classes in for the NUT to sign off. It has taught me ALOT! I track even when I don't eat right, I have learned how high the sodium is in foods that I thought were a good choice to eat. I track my exercise as well. Can't wait to see it move tracking my weight loss....down about 5-6 lbs so far. Good luck w/your post diet.
  14. Hang in there RockinGal.....it is normal to be nervous, excited, scared and a multitude of feelings. You are normal. I will say a prayer for you to find some peace and that all goes well. It is exciting to see you are on your way to a healthier you. Take care and let us know how you are doing.

    Lap Band vs RNY Bypass

You can hear a lot about both on this site and the lap-band site. But, ask your surgeon about the actual lifestyle each surgery will mean. There are some that will swear by the lap band, and some by RNY. The only thing I can add is that I had issues with my band from 5 years ago, and am currently awaiting the removal and revision to RNY. Wish I had done it first. I was sure I could do it with the band, but it is not just you and the band, sometimes there are things that go wrong with the band and it's maintenance. My surgeon told me they have seen quite a few removals of the band. That being said, please talk to your surgeon about the option differences for you and your lifestyle. And, congrats on making the decision to take control of your life! Good luck.
  16. I had my first band surgery in November 2007, it worked well and I lost about 30 lbs pre-surgery and 40 lbs post surgery-approx. 7mos out. Started having episodes of getting completely blocked, would have to go in and get Fluid out. Then spent a few months getting filled again, a little at a time and never found the sweet spot again. In October 2008 I had a horrible gall bladder attack, thought it was a heart attack! Had it removed in November 2008 by my bariatric surgeon. While he was in there, he decided to remove my band, and re-place the whole thing in a different position. After healing a month or so, we started the process of re-filling....by May 2009 my band was completely full, over 9.5ccs....never felt full. Quit going back. Went back to my old eating habits, other than I couldn't eat bread, eggs, doughnuts or French fries. If I ate too fast or didn't chew well, I would get stuck and end up PBing to stop the tremendous pain it caused. I went back this past week, asked to just have it removed. Discussed getting the RNY bypass. My doctor seemed to think it was a good idea. Ordered an upper GI and said the band was almost completely shut off, and I did NOT have a slip. Why did I never feel full?? He said sometimes if you are too tight, it keeps the nerves that feel fullness from being felt?? He took out all the fluid and wants to let it go a month, then try to start filling process again. I have mixed feelings, I don't know if I want to go months again to not have any results. Has anyone else gone through this and had the band start working again?? Have gained nearly all my weight back.

    3 months post op :)

Great job! Thanks for sharing your progress. Keep up the good work.
  18. Aww Crystal T....Sorry to hear you went thru so much pain and had to have surgery... I hope you get healed soon, and who knows what life has in store for you. Just take it one day at a time. @Lady VS...thanks for asking. I did not do very well on the foods, etc...but, I am back on the wagon, I have been going to the Y and walking/biking 3 times a week. Seeing a few pounds down. They have scheduled my psych evaluation for January 30th. I have to get in 5 NUT classes, should have done by Feb 10th. When all behind me, we can request the RNY bypass surgery again thru my insurance. So, one day at a time, I will use my fitness pal to help. I see you are almost to goal! Way to go....I can't imagine being that close. It has been years since I was even close to normal weight. What exercising routine do you use? Hope your holidays were good as well.

    Band Comes Out January 29th!

That is great...hope all goes well. Good for you working on losing now too. I am working on my 10% the NUT wants to see during the time I take my mandatory 5 classes. My psych eval is scheduled now for Jan.30th. Hoping to get all the classes in by Feb 11th. If I can get my weight down close to that, I can get my second request back into insurance for RNY bypass. Funny, my doctor said he was not concerned with me losing a particular amount before surgery, but the NUT is?? Any way I am working on my new healthier habits now. Keep in touch.

    Band Comes Out January 29th!

Congrats! Are they doing both the removal and the revision RNY at the same time? I have been approved for the band removal, but have to go thru 5 nutrition classes, a new psych eval, and resubmit request to insurance for the RNY. My Dr wants to do both at once. Goal is to have the surgery before April. Let us know how you do. And good luck on your journey!

    "Operation Operation"

How are you doing today? I went to the Y yesterday and did 2 miles walking. Going tomorrow too. Trying to get in a habit again of exercising 3 times a week. Your story is really inspiring me to be proactive while I am waiting to get thru the nutrition classes, etc. Have a good week end.
