Terribj got a reaction from mommy3nurse in Low BMI and Gastric Sleeve
I had a relatively low BMI (37.3) and no co-morbidity. I was self-pay for my surgery.
I feel that I am having good success. The pounds and inches are coming off - at my body's pace. In the past I couldn't lose weight. I've read about people who can't keep it off - i couldn't lose it. 4 months of a supervised diet before surgery, with a NUT, personal trainer and my doc - I gained a pound in those 4 months. I personally think my lower BMI has helped with my success. I don't mean that as a blanket statement - that is a "this works for me" comment.

Terribj got a reaction from Lainybee1987 in Eating Slowly after the sleeve
It takes your brain 20-25 minutes to register you are full. I try to eat slow so my brain can keep up with my stomach. I don't want to over eat and I'd like to feel full for as long as possible.
I don't like eating slow - i mean really - how long does it take one to eat 4 oz of food - most people that is two bites, for the rest of us it is the whole meal.
I do find it difficult to make 4 oz last 20-25 minutes but each meal I try. I notice the slower I eat the fuller I feel longer. As everything else everyone is different - find what works for you.

Terribj got a reaction from Vekja in Hungry at 3 days post-op?
I felt that way after surgery as well. About a week out the hunger seemed to subside and at 6 weeks out I have no cravings and I sometimes have to remind myself to eat.

Terribj got a reaction from 2016ismine in Daily food schedule
I too am 6 weeks post-op and here is my daily intake
7AM Scrambled egg (about 3 bites and I'm done) / 1/4 of a piece of Canadian bacon (or turkey sausage)
9:30 AM Cottage cheese (1 oz) and 5-6 grapes ( or some other fruit)
    11:30 / 12 1.5 oz baked chicken and 1 oz of re-fried Beans
2PM 3 saltines with hummus or pnut butter 1 piece of string cheese
5/6 PM 2 oz of baked fish or chicken, 1 oz green Beans (or carrots or some veggie I can handle)
Throughout the morning between meals I sip on a Protein drink and then drink Water the rest of the time.
This equates to about 600 calories a day and there are some days I can't get that much in.
To get on track----I try to add a new food every week. I pack my lunch each night before bed and first thing in the morning I add everything I'm going to eat into My Fitness Pal. My husband and I eat together and if he wants something not so healthy I make something different.
To be honest I really don't like eating since surgery. While the food tastes good I'm just not hungry - I have no cravings, but my body can feel when it needs fuel - that is all it is. There are still a lot of foods I can't tolerate so I stick with what I know will go down.
    Good Luck

Well, I just hit my 2 year surgery anniversary! WOW! I thought I would be 200 lbs, but I weigh in at (wait for it) 262 lbs. My highest weight was 462 lowest point was September of 2013 243. This past year I've added 20+ lbs of muscle which I'm really happy with. Now I just have refocus on the cardio which is shall we say challenging.

Terribj got a reaction from Inner Surfer Girl in I think it hit me tonight... my worries
I have been sleeved now for a year and a half. Missing food was one of my worries as well.
I don't know how best to explain it other than there are so many more important things in my life I focus on that I don't miss the food. Not like you would think. Maybe once in while when friends are at dinner and everyone is raving about the bread (i haven't had bread since before my surgery) but then i look back at how I felt 18 months ago and how I feel now. I don't miss the sweets, I don't miss the Pasta, I don't miss anything food related.
It has been worth it for me.

Terribj got a reaction from ncturtle in The Rules: Do you follow them?
I am 11 months out and I still follow the rules. I am so fearful of gaining weight back that I have to be reminded that healthy is more important than anything.
I keep track of Protein, watch sugar intake and track exercise. I don't count calories.
I drink coffee daily, but have to push to get all my Water in.
I exercise 6 days a week - at least 30 minutes. I alternate between cardio and weights.
I also have chosen not to eat certain things: Pasta, rice and bread still hurts. Fried food hurt and I can't stand the taste of sweets (Cookies, cake, pie, etc).
Grapes take care of my sweet-tooth.
The hardest thing I'm working on now is body image. I still see the fat girl in the mirror and I panic when I gain a pound. My husband has now hidden the scale to help me. Also, this fear / obsession didn't start until I hit my goal weight. I'm reading a couple books on post-op living and attending some support groups. In my opinion the surgery / weight-loss was the easy part. Overcoming these emotions and self-image are the hardest.

I think it's awesome that you are at goal. Also, it doesn't matter if you have lost all your weight- everyone needs support. Maintenance is just as hard ( I am going to say it- if not harder) than losing the weight.
I say keep seeking out support and joining the challenges. Forget the negative people.
I think when we get to goal it can become easy to slip up with bad eating habits and forget that no matter how thin or fit we all may get we are still recovering from obesity. Therefore, even being at goal or below goal takes hard butt kicking work. So I say congratulations to you!! Don't let negative people keep you from seeking out the support you need.

if you haven't--start using My Fitness Pal and track Protein, carbs and sugar. That has helped me stay on track. I'm at almost 1 1/2 years out. I can tell when I haven't been as diligent as I should so I log back into my fitness pal and get back on track. I don't track calories, only Protein, carbs and sugars.
I think exercising helps me stay focused as well.
    You can do it!

Also, Syntrax Protein is pretty good. You can order a sample pack to try. You must call to order the variety pack - see link for phone number. It's a good deal. The Fuzzy Navel flavor is really good. Some flavors you'll like better than others.
    http://www.si03.com/reg_index.htm
You can also order a sample pack of Chike Protein powders. They're a combinate of protein isolate and protein concentrate.
I prefer the protein powders that are protein isolate because they have a lot fewer carbs, i.e. unjury and Syntrax.< /p>

I'm an powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury fan....all flavors. You buy them online at Unjury.com. If you're not happy with the product, you can return it. The chicken Soup is a nice change from sweet shakes although you have to watch the Water temperature otherwise the whey will clump - it doesn't change the taste, but the texture is weird in your mouth. I do add a pinch of chicken bouillon just to ramp up the flavor a bit. You can prepare the shakes a day in advance if you prefer. I've been known to drink one 2 days after making it. I create a mocha shake with 4 oz. coffee (usually leftover), 8 oz. skim milk, 1/2 serving of vanilla Protein powder and 1/2 serving of chocolate splendor; mix well, chill or serve over ice. Another favoriteis mixing a serving of vanilla with 8 oz. SF orange (or SF orange pineapple) drink. Also, another option is to add a couple of pumps of Torani SF Black Cherry Syrup to a vanilla shake. Today I'm going to try a tablespoon or two of PB2 blended with a chocolate shake - have heard it's really good - kind of like a liquide Reese's cup.
A word of caution - I have heard, and was told by my NUT - that pre-surgery you want to be careful about buying too many shake products because sometimes WLS patients' taste preferences change after surgery. Fortunately, I was not one of those whose taste preferences changed for anything following surgery. The only difference is that I now prefer very highly flavored solids foods.

Here are a couple issues I still deal with
i still see the fat girl in the mirror
I am far more critical of my new body than I was my old body
When I pick up a size 6 pants I can't believe how "big" they look.
I hate to eat - it tastes good when i do but it is very stressful for me.
IT doesn't happen as often as it used to, but sometimes is still there....
I would do this again in a minute!!

On the Fluid front: Try some sugar free Popsicles. They each have 4 oz of liquid. I used flavored drops in my Water to make it easier. I had a hard time finding the right temp for Water. At first it had to be cold, then a bout a month later i could start having it warm with tea
As far as eating - it will continue to be a chore in my opinion. I am NOT a cook so that may be part of it. . I am over a year out and I hate eating. This is the one side effect I didn't expect. I actually don't mind it - I rarely focus on food now. I eat because I have to. I have no cravings; food tastes good I just don't really like the act of eating.
    Good luck.

I went about it in a different way. I picked a dress size I wanted to be, not a weight. Mt doctor suggested a weight.
    I know my body type isn't a size 2 so I picked 8. I wanted to be a size 8. If I weigh 160 or 140 it didn't matter. My goal was an 8.
Here I am. I've been a size 8 for 3 months. I'm below my "goal weight" my doctor picked for me. I try really hard not to obsess about the weight and focus on how the clothes feel.
Just a different way to think about it.
    Good Luck- you'll do great
