  1. The more I think about it, don't let it worry you too much. I think we all end up where we need to be. Maybe this is a new, forward way of thinking. It may lead to less complications with the port. If the doc can find it easier, he may not puncture something else. My doc is forward thinking in some ways, and in others, I don't feel he's practicing the newer ways of the lapband thinking. So, it may be a good thing! Best Wishes!
  2. The incision would likely be very small. That would actually be a good place because then it wouldn't show if you wear a bathing suit or something low cut. If he's done a bunch of these, then he probably knows what he's doing.
  3. That is kinda weird. I'm sure it will be OK. If he places kinda under the body fat where your breasts begin you probably won't be able to tell it's there. But if he places it above that, you may be able to feel it a little more. Depending on how thin you get, it could possibly show. I don't want you to be dissatisfied, I would ask him his reasoning behind that. It makes the surgery more complicated as he will have to use a tunneling tool to create a space for the port line to go through. Don't do anything until you are satisfied with all of the answers. Not all docs are created equal. Oh,and if I were you, I might insist on a low or very low profile port. That may be his plan, but I would check.
  4. You must have been taking that new medication, Noassitol!
  5. I always say, this is the time to prove to yourself that you have the strength do this. Many have done it before you. Find your inner strength. I would always tell myself that hunger is just a sensation that can be ignored. Like if you jamb your toe, you just go on with your day and get over it. Same with the hunger. Usually, after the first few days, your body will adjust and the bad cravings will dissipate. Embrace the cleansing! Best wishes!
  6. I had three great NSV's today! The first: I was on second call and I generally never get called in but I did get called in around ten am today. I ran downstairs to get dressed and tried to decide what to throw on. I saw some old scrubs that I had recently gotten out of storage. I haven't fit in them for like four years. I put them on, expecting them to fit very snug like they did before I outgrew them, but they were actually loose and very comfy! Woot! The second: As some of you may know, my hubby, though he did not get a lapband, has changed his diet and started exercising along with me. He had lost a little bit before I got banded and so far has lost about 50 pounds. Today, I bought him 2 pairs of exercise shorts and 2 exercise shirts from the clearance rack at Macy's. So awesome that he fits in the normal guy section of clothes! Even more awesome, the total was $34! He used to have to go to the Big and Tall store where each item would have been $40! This is kinda his NSV, but since I like to buy him clothes every now and then, it's an NSV for my wallet too! The third: I was always such a slave to food convienience. Fast food. Carry out. I have really been cooking so much more! I noticed that the amount of groceries I buy for the two of us is so much less. Today, I did our weekly grocery shop with one of the small carts. Healthy food is sometimes more expensive, but when you're eating a lot less of it.....Plus, I still am not spending as much as I did on all of the convienient stuff. And then here's the thorn in my side: What is up? Does no one think that fat people want to exercise? I find it close to impossible to find women's plus size exercise clothing!! I live in fairly large city. This is ridiculous. It makes me angry. D**k's (the website censored this word, but it is the name of a sporting goods store) apparently only thinks skinny people are exercising. Lane Bryant might have a couple of jogging suits, but they're all hussied up with doily crap. They had some sort of track suit thing at macy's but it was not attractive. Target didn't have anything. WalMart's stuff was borderline Grandma lookin. Plus, I'm tall. I need length. As soon as I wash something, the legs draw up. I'm not crazy about online shopping because I'm so picky about the way things look on me, but I guess I'm going to have to try. Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want a pair of snug fitting, yoga type pants, black, that I could walk/run on the treadmill in. And I carry all of my weight on my tummy, so I'm still wearing like a 24 or a 3x. I might be very close to a 22 or 2x. Even, if I can find pants, it's hard to find sports bras, tight tanks to help hold the ladies down, and some sort of sporty sleeveless shirt to go over it all. Any suggestions would be appreciated!
  7. Yes, this is something you MUST do. The second and third day seem to be the hardest. If you can get past those, it does get easier. It won't be easier if you cheat, so don't. Really use this time to embrace ridding yourself of your addiction to sugar and carbs. I used the time to get myself off of those, plus caffeine too. I feel liberated now. You'll be fine, just remember it's not going to kill you. This is where you prove to yourself that you have the strength to do this. Best wishes!
  8. Bandista, I quoted you in another thread asking if you were still doing MFP. I'm gonna friend you too.
  9. I just found this thread, but if anyone is still looking for MFP buddies, I'd love to have ya! My user name is lleepers (2 lower case L's).
  10. Bandista, are you still using MFP? I'd love to friend you on there. My user name is lleepers (2 L's).
  11. KimK, can I friend you on MFP? I need more WLS buddies on there.
  12. Yes, I love My Fitness Pal. It allows you to really confront what you're eating. I'd you want to use it just to track protein, that's great. I have become a little obsessed with calories because I really believe the calories in/ calories out rule. It's fun to see what other people are eating. If you make an account, my user name is lleepers (2 lower case L's).
  13. See a cardiologist who specializes in Electrophysiology. Depending on how long you've been in afib, you might be able to get an afib ablation and be rid of it. Glad to hear you're feeling better. It's true. Just like with WLS. If we don't take care of ourselves, no one will do it for us.
  14. I'm only eight weeks out and already I can see the faces of my family members gloss over when I start to talk about my experience. I am obsessed, I know. But I have to be. It sucks but I'm going to try not speaking about it unless I'm spoken to. Thankfully the hubby has changed his diet with me and we're going to the gym. So we just talk about it together. Maybe your friends just aren't sure how to deal with your changes.
  15. Neighbor just left cookies in my door for Valentines. I feel bad but I threw them straight in the garbage. I was gonna send them to you, but you look like you need to lose about 25 pounds. Lol!
  16. I didn't tell anyone before the surgery because I had already heard some strong opinions about it being thrown around. After the surgery, I did tell everyone and now I wish I hadn't. I think the majority of people are truly in support of me, especially because I work in a cardiac cath lab. But it gets tedious sometimes answering so many questions. Like everyone else has said though, we can't let any of it get to us. We are making positive changes to our life and no one can keep us from it!
  17. I buy a fat free raspberry vinaigrette that is very tasty and sweet. I bet the kids would like it.
  18. So inspiring. I woke up having a not so great day. I needed a reminder that all of this hard work will pay off. Keep up the good work!
  19. Interesting, Tom. The reason I asked is that I've noticed that pretty much all of the people who've reached their goal have incorporated some sort of exercise along with changing the way they eat. I wonder if someone could ever be truly successful if they continued to eat a fast food and high carb diet but just in smaller amounts. I suspect not.
  20. That is awesome! And you look fabulous! Out of curiosity, did you do it with the band and diet only, or did you exercise?
  21. I so understand! I don't have a lot of pics either. My before pic I took on the third day of my preop diet so I would have something for a before pic. It's sad how we have missed out on capturing so much of our lives.
  22. I feel for you. I can't imagine how hard it must be to balance job, kids, hubby too. But, it sounds to me as if 30 minutes away is just what you need. How about after dinner, let hubby put away food and do the dishes and watch the kid while you take a short walk around the block? It would be a great time to be alone, sort out your thoughts, and get in some physical movement. I know, by that time, you're probably really tired, but if you can just do it anyway, you may find you enjoy it. Pick two days during the week so hubby will know when to expect it. Lots of people have lost the weight without exercise so don't beat yourself up if you can't do it right now, but it would probably be so good to have some time for you. Best wishes!
  23. Congrats!! I'm inspired. I need to lose about the same as you. 130 pounds for me. I'm looking forward to that halfway point. You should post some before and half-way pics!
  24. I was like that until my first fill and then for some reason, after the fill, I started getting cravings and super hunger. It might be because I started working out. If that's the way you feel, it's ok. Relish it. And don't decide to push it. You're doing great.

I like your sense of humor! Keep going to the gym. Yes, you may have to take care of other people, but take care of you first.
