Essential Questions For The Dr? Consultation Next Week
Don't be afraid to ask your surgeon how long he's been putting in the band or how many he has done. You don't want the new kid on the block.

Alcoholic Beverages
Thanks for the reminders. I will ask about it when I go in for testing this Friday. Carolina Girl, every couple buys what they think will be the ugliest ornament, and we do a white elephant style opening of the gifts where you can steal, etc. I actually have a small tree just for ugly ornaments that we've gotten every year. This is our eighth year having it and it's always a blast! It always seems that some sort of hideous animal wins every year. Last year I bought a Snookie ornament and someone else had bought a Paulie D. (Jersey Shore) ornament. I got stuck with Paulie! Lol

Alcoholic Beverages
Yes, pre-surgery diet. I go this Friday for a barium swallow and education. It is my understanding that I will be on a liquid diet for one week before the surgery (and also, one week after). No mention has been made about any certain amount of weight loss.

Alcoholic Beverages
I am scheduled to get my band on December 18th. I start my liquid diet on December 11th. Every year, I host an Ugly Ornament Party for some long time friends and usually most people imbibe many spirits for the party. I will be on my third day of the liquid diet. I know I probably should not have a lot of alcoholic drinks, as they tend to be high in sugar and calories, but I would really like to have at least a couple of drinks. Does anyone have any good suggestions for a low calorie alcoholic drink that would be possibly "acceptable" on a liquid diet? Also, do you think the alcohol would affect me differently while on a liquid diet? For anyone with a band, what alcoholic drinks have you drank with the band?

What Should I Tell My Boss
Oops! Hit post too soon. "A lot" would be a great response to people asking how much weight you've lost.

What Should I Tell My Boss
Ive decided when people ask how I'm losing all the weight, I'm going to say,"I'm restricting what I eat." It will be the truth and will not need further conversation. I've also been thinking that "a lot" will be the perfect response.

It's About Me & It's For Me
I have been thinking a lot lately about what I am going to say to curious people who ask about my weight loss. It is very unusual for me to be secretive about myself, I'm usually am open book. For some reason though, I want to do this journey privately. I might change my mind later. So, I came up with a great response I may use. I like it because it's the truth, so I'm not lying but it also doesn't invite further discussion. When someone asks me what I'm doing to lose the weight, I'm gonna say, "Restriction," or "I'm restricting what I eat." It will be true and most people will not get the implications.

Help!
Does losing weight change a person's hormones? I have always associated hair loss with hormone changes. When I would go on and off the pill I would start losing hair. Have you done anything like that recently?

Liquid Diet Rules
Did you choose the preop diet with the meal? It seems it would be nice to eat something. I answered your pm. Sometimes this site is kinda slow loading and giving notifications. Especially on my phone.

Surgery Scheduled For 12/26 In Pittsburgh....anyone Else Scheduled In December?
I'm scheduled to get my band on December 18th in Louisville, KY. I'm thinking Christmas will be my first day off of postop liquid diet and I will be able to eat smooth, mashed foods. Yay! Good Luck to you, hope to see you on here more.

Liquid Diet Rules
My surgery is scheduled for December 18th. I will be going in on December 6th for some preop testing and education. I know that I will have to do a liquid diet for one week before the surgery and one week after. However, I am a person who likes to plan ahead and it's killing me to wait for 2-3 weeks for the "education." So, I was wondering about other people's liquid diets. What are/were your "rules" or parameters? Can you drink as much liquid as you want or do you have calorie restrictions? Is it any liquid, or are there certain types they want you to avoid. Just curious...

Why Am I So Terrifed?
Hi, kassy07! I am also scheduled to get my band on December 18th. For whatever reason, all I have to do for preop is a liquid diet for one week. I think it's great that you are doing what you have to, to get the operation. Are you buying the pre-made shakes? I bought my first few brands to try out today. Apparenlty there must be the kind you make yourself with a powder mix? Like Dylan suggested, they may be cheaper. I will have to check those out too.

What Should I Tell My Boss
I know how you feel! It is almost impossible to keep a secret where I work. Especially because I work in a hopsital so everyone is all up in your health/medical business. I thought about telling people I was having my bladder tacked up. Sounds funny, huh? I'm probably also going to have to eat somewhere else than our breakroom because everyone is always scoping out what everyone else is eating and there always has to be a discussion about it. For the two weeks I'm on a liquid diet, I'm just not going to go in there at all. I'm usually very open about myself, so it feels weird to keep it a secret, but I just don't want to be hassled and scrutinized all the time.

Nurses As Bariatric Patients
I'm an RN and I work in a huge heart hospital in the Cath Lab. I see every day what will happen to me if if don't do something about my obesity. I have a strong family history of heart disease and that is a path I would like to avoid. The only other people I know who've had the band are RN's who have NOT lost the weight. They wouldn't come out and admit they didn't do what they were supposed to do. So, yes, I think being nurse doesn't allow you to ignore the painful fact that you are obese and unhealthy. You have those people every day as patients. You see the path you are headed down. I do think that's maybe why a lot of nurses choose WLS.

I am scheduled for surgery on 12-18-13. I am nervous and excited. I would love to have others out there to talk to!- Lap Band 12-11-13
Hi kelmat! I am scheduled to get my band on 12-18-13. Sometimes I think I may be crazy to do this one week before Christmas. But, my insurance is changing so I need to get it in before the end of the year. Also, there will always be some reason not to do it. I too, am very nervous. I've never had any type of surgery before. I would definitely like to have some friends who know what I am going through. - Dec 2013
