  1. Ive been having mini-NSV's for a while but I've been feeling a lot of self doubt too - like I'll never be truly successful, never reach goal. I started at 325 last summer, lost 28 preop, and have lost a total of 65 since surgery on March 13. I'm right at 260. Its been work. I feel like a slow loser. But I'm really, (finally) seeing results, especially in my clothes. I worse a pair of jeans I hadn't worn since 2008. I bought a pair of W22 khaki pants a few weeks ago that are now too big to wear. I can easily wear a size 18 bathing suit. But, Tonight, I think I had my first true, jump up and down moment. And it was over something relatively simple. A lab coat of all things. Last summer, I ordered a lab coat in 4X so it would button. Today I ordered a XXL and it fits. It fits perfectly, I can even button it. I know it's still an XXL but IT BUTTONED! All the way down! It's the largest size in the non-plus sizes. I have 95 pounds to go and when I say that, I feel like I'll never make it! Sometimes I feel like I'll never get there. But tonight, I finally felt like I was moving in the right direction. You'd think seeing 65 gone would give me a little faith. But it took buttoning up a lab coat to be excited!!!

Do they not make dresses with long sleeves anymore?

Excited to report I found a lovely teal blue, maxi with 3/4th sleeves at Kiyonna. Best part?????? I ordered a 2X but it was too big! So I ordered the 1X and it fits near perfect (actually almost big). I was soooooo excited! It needs to be hemmed. I love it though! I will post pic from wedding which is next Saturday. Next question: what color nail polish with teal blue (almost royal blue)?
  3. You go do this and don't look back! You GOT this!!!!!
  4. I do!!!! It's the most frustrating thing about this! I was a great water drinker before surgery. Now, I struggle to meet goals. I find it easier to drink 30-45 min after eating and truly hard when my stomach is "empty". I was struggling today and ate a piece of cheese. It seemed to make the queasiness go away and then I could drink again. But I find myself feeling like I'm grazing and that's no good. But I totally agree. Water on an empty sleeve is so nauseating. I drink a big cup of decaf tea at night (which goes down better) just to try to catch up. So frustrating.

    Im an emotional wreck. Help!

I'm 11 weeks post op (today). I started at 325. I lost 28 preop and had many stalls along the way, even preop. I have lost a total of 65 since preop, so 37 since surgery. You are probably having the beginning of your first stall. This is totally normal and won't last. It's pure mental anguish going through it. DONT GET SIDETRACKED because the scale isn't moving. It will. Your body is clinging to every morsel since the shock of surgery and weight loss. Search for threads on the 3 weeks stall. You'll find lots of them. Most go through it. Trust me, stay on track and it will move again. You'll have many more stalls but you will do fine. I 100% identify with your anxiety. I've been there, and am still there some days. There is a lot of mental work that goes into this. I've been relatively successful to lose 37 pounds in 11 weeks but my negative thoughts say it should be more!!!!! I have to stay on here daily and beef up my confidence and faith. You are right where youre suppose to be. Keep trying all the things you're suppose to be trying, they will get easier. Those weeks before puréed/softs are tough to endure. Keep reading. Push fluids and protein. The fatigue last several more weeks but gets better about week 8. Hang in there!!! You got this!!

    NSV

    Awesome!!!!
  7. Probably a big piece of it. I only took pain meds for 4 days. Hated the nausea. Zofran was my friend.

    Does anyone eat pizza?

No judging here. I KNOW HOW HARD THIS IS! I made homemade pizza on low carb flat out bread tonight. I really wanted Jets deep dish but oh well! We live and we learn. It's easy to go one bite too many, way too easy. But life is better with a tiny tummy. Im 10 weeks out and I'm still learning.

    extreme hair loss

So it stopped at about 9 months? I have thick med/long hair and it's shedding when dry and handfuls when wet. I've been on biotin for 5 months (started preop). Obviously it's done nothing. But my nails are awesome!!!!! I'm getting a haircut next week. Hoping to shape it up and maybe it'll help. Did you color your hair during the losing phase? I'm gonna be bummed if it gets worse and lasts another 6 months!

    Anyone here have a Nutribullet?

I used mine to purée soups, refried beans, chicken and shakes. I used it everyday for a few weeks. I've used it less on solid foods. Works well and easy clean up.

Calcium Citrate: What do you use?

I just got a shipment. Maybe it was 13 but I coulda swore it was 23. I'll check again and stock up. Thanks!

Calcium Citrate: What do you use?

I was totally hesitant to try the Wellesse but it's really good and no metallic taste. I have Amazon prime and I think I got 2 bottles for $23. I keep one at work and one at home so I don't forget. My NUT said 5ml 3 times a day instead of 7.5ml twice a day for better absorption. My labs were good at 1 month. They added extra D because I was at the low end of normal. Hoping my 3 month labs are good so I don't have to go to pills. I just can't tolerate that horrible metallic taste.
  13. You will definitely feel better soon! Hang in there. Sip away. I had severe fatigue for about 5 weeks. Then it got better. You're doing great! Hang in there!

Calcium Citrate: What do you use?

I use the liquid Calcium and Vit D by Wellesse. I can't stand the metallic taste in the chewable a or giant pills.

Slippery Slope. Tell me to quit grazing

That's exactly what I'm worried about! It's like I feel a need to eat every 2 hours. I can see the writing on the wall if I don't stop. I do well in morning spacing my breakfast and lunch but afternoons, the grazing starts. I'm actually pretty good with staying away from carbs. It's not chips or stuff like that, it's cheese, or jerky, or nuts. The jerky and nuts just to chew! Ironically, I can't chew gum because I have TMJ. Today was much better. I was right at 850 cal, 65 protein, 50 carbs. Part of it is, when I drink fluids on an "empty" stomach, I get waves of nausea. It doesn't last, but it's easier to get fluids in about 30 min after eating and darn hard 2 hours after eating. I've tried all kinds of drops. I actually prefer the plain water now (or unsweet tea but that's more caffeine I don't need). But I'm just gonna have to get over it. It's so frustrating. But today was better. I'll go with it!
  16. Ten weeks out tomorrow. Doing well (62 down, but slow). But. A big BUTT - I'm noticing that I'm grazing and the calories are creeping up. I'm not exercising like I should. I need to be held accountable. I get extremely full but get hungry again. Tell me how bad this slippery slope is. I think this is in part because I need to crunch something and I'm bored with foods. I'm tracking everything. And making good choices. I just need to stop snacking so much. TELL ME TO STOP. Tell me your horror stories. Tell me to snap out of it! How I wish my brain was fixed along with my stomach.

Slippery Slope. Tell me to quit grazing

Yes, I obsessively track. That's how I know the calories are adding up. Did well today. When I needed to chew today, I ate a bite of celery. Thank you all! I have more faith in myself today. Funny how negative about myself i can get. I saw my pulmologist today and he was worried about my negativity and reminded me this was a marathon not a sprint. I lost 1.4 over night too which helps. I'm watching myself to make sure I don't go backwards but I'm still in the race !though.

Slippery Slope. Tell me to quit grazing

Ok people! Thank you for your quick responses! Keep me honest. Today is a new day. Swam this morning. Lunch is packed. Celery and califlauer packed with some dip for when I need crunch. Carbs will be maintained today. I've kept calories to 950 or under but I know the grazing adds unintentional calories and it's a slippery slope. Thank you!!! I can't do this without you people holding me up!
  19. Thyroid was good preop. When will they recheck it? I'm almost 10 weeks post.

    Long term supplementation

I can't stomach the Calcium pills or the chews but I do fine with the liquid calcium. Wellesse or something like that - can get on Amazon and I also found it at Walgreens once. No nausea, no metallic taste. I'm suppose to do 5ml three times a day but usually only get it down twice. I've added extra D because I was on the low end of normal at 4 weeks post.

    PB2

I didn't have a 2 week preop liquid but I wouldn't see why not. There are carbs in pb2 but not too bad. I mixed it with choc shakes post op. Loved it!
  22. You are sooooo new that all of this is normal. It will all get better. You have barely cleared the anesthesia chemicals from your body at a week. Narcotics make me sick and it took days to get over the nausea. I can drink with a straw at 8 weeks but at 1 week, just SIP. Plan ahead for everything the first month. I had zero energy for a month and bouts of nausea for at least 10 days. Try Flintstones vitamins. Very easy to chew. I take 2 a day. Make sure your doctor knows you're swallowing pills. Most don't allow but some do. Hang in there. You'll likely feel better soon.

    Long term physical considerations

I've lost 62 with 98 to go. I've got neck and shoulder blade "knots" from hell. I've noticed the bones in my feet are "loose" and popping. And my hip! I just said I'm the only person I know who loses 60 pounds and their hip falls apart. I just keep moving and figure my skeleton will keep adjusting and eventually figure itself out. It's got to be happier even if my muscles aren't! I'm really interested in trying yoga but I have no idea how to start. I feel so out of place in a classroom. I still have a long way to go.
  24. I definitely think the Biotin is making the facial hair worse. My nails are super strong though. I have started to notice, especially in the last week or so that my skin is dry and so itchy. And my hair seems drier. I started another thread about Vit E or Fish Oil (I think they are the same???) to get feedback. I can't find anything I say Vit E will hurt post sleeve. I'm trying to get all my fluids in but rarely meet goal there. So, in a nut shell, I'm losing weight, feeling great, nails look great but hair is drying up/frizzy, skin is dry AND I have a beard. Just goes to show, you can't have it all!!!
  25. MY oily skin and scalp are drying out at 9 weeks post op. Curious if Fish Oil and or Vit E has been helpful to you? Or, any suggestions for lifeless skin and hair? Already taking Biotin and all the other normal post Vit cocktail. Faithful with suppliments. Slowly loosing. Not enough water but I'm trying.
