    Who is in March?

I'm 3 weeks post op tomorrow. I've been in a stall for 10 or more days. I was horribly constipated. I'd been taking stuff for several days to get me going without luck. Until 11 pm last night. Diarrhea all night and more today. Seems like everything hit at once. If I haven't lost 3 pounds in poo today, I'll be pissed! Trying to drink extra fluids now. This 2/3 week stall bites. I KNOW I'm doing everything right, my body is just tripping. I do need to work on more fluids. I'm seriously considering a camel back.

THIS is how the first 4 weeks go...

I had to come back and re-read as I'm just about 3 weeks out and need to know I'm "normal". Feeling the frustration of a stall despite eating 400-700 calories a day. Not enough energy to exercise yet. Just frustrated. I love this thread. Thank you Merely Human!

I wouldn't go peanut butter until you had trialled other foods. My NUT says no PB anyway. I love it though. I use PB2 in shakes.

    Weight stalling

I'm 2.5 weeks post op. I'm in a stall and it's so frustrating. I lost 28 preop which was great but only 17 (not only but you know) since surg - pretty Much all of that in 10 days. So 45 pounds since last August. I've read all about the 3 week stall and I kept telling myself to just let it go but it's harder to deal with than I thought it would be. I'm doing everything right, except exercising. Do you exercise when you're eating 600 calories a day? I'm lightheaded and muscle fatigued when I just carry something. Maybe I'm rushing it. I just really don't want to screw this up, I mean, really! I did this huge thing to help insure suscess. How utterly frustrating it is to stall!!!!! I too hold onto weight during my period, at least I did presleeve. To eat 600 calories a day and not lose weight is just really discouraging. I'm sorry I'm venting on your thread. I've read everything I can and *know* it's normal but in the back of my mind, it feels like failure.

    Help! Best Shock-Absorbing Walking Shoes?

Oh, I also agree with getting fitted. If you can find a New Balance store, they are usually great. I've also had good luck with running stores. Good luck!

    Help! Best Shock-Absorbing Walking Shoes?

I love New Balance too. Buy the expensive ones with the wide, sturdy heel. I'm a nurse, besides Birkenstocks (I'm flat footed so I need a hard arch), NB are the only things I could wear.

Skinny jeans indeed! I'm sure you're a long way from the finished product as far as healing goes. Pretty amazing!

Percentage of protein, fat & carbs

How do you get 20% fat with a high protein diet. I've never figured that out! It's frustrating!

    Soup Anyone?

At 5 days out I was taking cans of soup and pureeing them. I was no where near ready for mushy food at 5 days. It would have been painful. I did fine with puréed soups then. Broccoli and cheese, French onion, Bean and Bacon. Sometimes I'd add unflavored protein powder.

    Who is in March?

I think they just said when it was healed and no scabs. I'll be three weeks on Thursday. All my scabs but 1 are gone. I prob should wait at least 4. I don't think it said on any of my stuff. I love the pool. You're prob right.

    Who is in March?

I don't think I can exercise at 600. I think I could at 800. I have energy but as soon as I start to exert myself, I'm pooped. I'll finish it up about 600 today, maybe more. 70g protein, 20 carbs. Got my water in I think, not a bad day. I'm gonna try to swim this week.

    Who is in March?

My nut just says just work on fluid and protein goals. I'm gonna read my stuff over again. I can easily get 700 with shakes and puréed. I keep reading about 800 being the threshold for starvation mode and stalls. Just wondering.

    Who is in March?

Is it too soon to be at 800 cal a day??? I'm 2 week + 2 days post op. I keep thinking I should be at 400-500 still? I feel better at more but at a bit of a stall and I just don't want to push anything. I feel ready to start to exercise but I have some lightheadedness. Hard to get all my fluids in. Makes me so frustrated. Wow on running! I'm soooooo impressed! I want to run someday!

    Recovery room question

Okay, that pump is way cool! I've not seen this. My hospital, and any others I've been around have so many "restrictions" but maybe outpatient clinics aren't held to the same? I don't know. I agree leaks aren't common in the first few days but bleeding could be. The higher the comorbidities, the higher the other risks too. I think you're recovery is quite amazing. And I'm just kidding about not appreciating nurses - we're kinda used to being not 100% appreciated for the responsibilities we have. Just playing! I am very impressed with your recovery. I personally thought this was more painful than any other surg I've had. C-sec = not too bad. The GYN surg was kinda bad but more so because I had to go home with a catheter for 5 days. My knee scope = I was 23 and had no clue about surg, I threw up a ton. My gallbladder = I spent an hour in recovery room and discharged from there and it was easy-peasy recovery. This was a little harder. Getting up and moving was helpful. Maybe I shoulda gone to Vegas or the beach to have mine, sounds more fun than my living room!
  22. I 100% relate to the statement about the NFL linebacker! I have said that was one of my reasons too.

    Recovery room question

That's really interesting about the anesthesia nausea coming from the same place as motion sickness. I get super car sick, even worse seasick, and can't go on any carnival rides (I've thrown up on a Ferris wheel before) I was extremely nauseous when I woke up from my cervical fusion surgery. I warned the cardiologist and anesthesiologist about it when I had my VSG. They pumped me full of some anti nausea drug preop, and it worked like a charm. I was very pleasantly surprised to have no nausea when I woke up. And I'm with you, I'd rather hurt than be heaving! I had a GYN surgery a few years ago. They did the preop cocktail trying to prevent vomiting. The minute I woke up, I'm heaving. They were doing a trial at this hospital. One of the recovery rooms used Decadron (a steroid) and the other didn't. Luckily I was in the one that did and got it. It was absolutely amazing! It's very short acting but it was amazing to have that nausea disappear. Problem is, the narcotics make it come back within an hour or so. I do so much better with oral pain meds. With the sleeve, I asked for Decadron. It helped but not as much as I remembered before. I had considerable pain immediately post op with the sleeve. I really wished I could take oral meds instead of the IV - that was so frustrating! My nausea resolved as soon as the IV meds stopped and the anesthesia wore off. I was glad to go home too.

    Gain after new food stage

I'm up half a pound after a few days on puréed. But I'm so dang constipated. I don't think a gain is necessarily reflective of reality. You've got fluctuations to fluid shifts, you've got changes to metabolic rate, you've shocked your system. I'm going with all that because it's feeling good to see and feel the weight loss. I'm not feeling either with a bloated belly. Wish I had never backed off on my Miralax. I have some work to do to fix "this".
