  1. So my doctor only does them in 2 parts for the following reasons: 1) you are twice as likely to get a leak in a one step procedure (although risk is still low) and 2) you are more likely to get a larger sleeve with a pouch where the band is (although you might still get one even with 2-step procedure). Anyway I had mine in 2 steps and was not happy to have 2 surgeries but in retrospect it was nice to recover from the band removal before getting the sleeve. Each were difficult for their own separate reasons but I think that the band removal was more painful than the sleeve.

My revision was one in 2 surgeries too. That's the only way my doctor will do it now. He used to do it in one surgery, but he said the chances of a leak are a lot higher (but like you said, still low) with one surgery. I had my band out in March but because of some other things that came up am just having sleeve surgery tomorrow. I hope that by waiting 5 months my stomach will be well healed and that I'll get a nice tight little sleeve. :)

  3. Hello fellow August sleevers!! My surgery is scheduled for August 3rd. I have one more week to eat everything on my bucket list and to drink Coke. Then I start my liquid diet and the beginning to my new healthy life! I am not going to mourn food since I'll still be able to eat my favorites-just in much smaller portions. But I'm going to embrace a new healthy lifestyle and this tool that will help me achieve it.

  4. My surgeon said no caffeine ever -- even had to sign something that said I understood that. Caffeine is acidic and increases the risk of GI bleed, with in our small tummies would not be a good thing.

This is what I've been told too. Years ago when I had the beginning of an ulcer, the doctor took me off of caffeine because it's very hard on your stomach.

  5. True! Its a whole new ball game being able to eat again (even a little) and not throw up all the time. It was so routine for me to gag all the time, my kids would say "moms chewing her backed up cud again" yuk. lol

EWWW ;) Anytime I get up from the table my 6 year old son says "Are you going to throw up?". I'm so done with that part of my life.
