    Virginia beach/ Hampton roads

Hello! I'm in Virginia Beach and was just sleeved October 24th!! My surgeon was Dr. Fontana. He is Dr. Wolghemuth's partner. Have you gotten any new info on your surgery?
  3. I realize it's been a while since anyone has posted in this thread. I am in Virginia Beach, just sleeved October 24th, 2013!!

    First Month.. Questions

I only got emotional the second day in the hospital. I've heard for some it is an emotional roller coaster, then again, I already take an anti-anxiety/depression pill...that could be why I have been mostly collected.

    First Month.. Questions

I'm right there with you! It is comforting to read the many posts affirming this as normal. It still sucks, but I'm glad to know it isn't forever!! I can't wait to see the scale move again!

  8. I like Calcet Chewy Bites. The lemon creme and chocolate fudge are both yummy! I ordered them from Celebrate Vitamins. Amazon and other online stores have them too, but the best price I found was through Celebrate.

    Sleevers over 300lbs?

    I was 347 at my highest, 327 on surgery day (October 24th). I'm. 310 today! I can't wait to be under 300!!
  11. I am having one shake in the mornings. I mix it with 8 oz of 1% milk instead of Water. Tastes better and gives me 33 grams of protein instead of 25. I eat ff refried Beans with a little mild taco sauce and some shredded cheese mixed in. That is around 8 grams of protein. I am able to eat about 4 oz of dense soft protein, so it has been very easy for me to get the protein in. This equals a can of tuna drained with a little mayo, mustard, lemon juice mixed in, or a 4 oz filet of tilapia cut into small bites and chewed well. I also found that pulled BBQ pork with a little BBQ sauce mixed in has the same texture/density as my tuna salad. All of those options have about 22-27 grams of protein/serving. That is how I am getting the protein in. Talk to your dr . or NUT about the soft meats. My surgeon recommends them during the purée stage, but all are different!

    2weeks out of surgery

That sucks! Every surgeon is different, though. It would be nice if their standards were a bit more universal.

    2weeks out of surgery

Yes, October 24th. I thought it was supposed to be just purées but he told me to go ahead and try fish. It has worked out well for me! I do usually have refried beans with some taco sauce and cheese for lunch... Creature of habit, and it curbs my Mexican craving! Funny thing, though, I didn't enjoy eggs when I tried them this week.

    Going back to work

I got the all clear for driving on day 6. My one week post op was one day early and they told me as long as I was no longer on the narcotic pain meds I was cleared to drive.

    Going back to work

Two weeks is probably safe for you. I drive a school bus. Even though I am feeling pretty great at one week out, I'm glad I have one more week to recover. Driving a bus is actually pretty physical!

    Hungry 4 days post op

I was given Prilosec in the hospital! I was surprised, but it is pretty small and thankfully went down well! I have an Rx for it at home too. Taking it 2x a day.
  17. Also, I have heard that there is no true unflavored protein. The unflavored just isn't flavored with anything else. I found that soup masks the odor/flavor the best , but it is gagful in a drink! I tried adding it to my crystal light, and it was torture choking that down! Blech!
  18. Sleeved October 24th. I entered the hospital at 327, left at 338 (IV fluids/ swelling), I am now down to 312!! So 15 lbs are gone forever. I lost 14 pounds on my own before my surgery, so that is 29 lbs gone forever!!! I'm at a stall right now, but reading the posts on these boards gives me hope that this is common. I can't wait for the next loss!! Now that I am on soft foods, this journey has gotten much easier! I am drinking one protein shake a day and getting the rest of my protein from food! I've also been able to get all my water in...though most nights I am sitting up before going to bed, trying to get in those last few oz. lol!

    2weeks out of surgery

I had my sleeve on the 24th also. I am on soft foods too. My list includes tuna and soft meats. My surgeon suggested trying a broiled white fish first, before trying the denser tuna. I baked a piece of tilapia the next day with lemon juice and dill. It went down just fine! I tried tuna the next day and no problems with that either. My parents made pulled pork BBQ today and I had some of that with some BBQ sauce mixed in. It had much the same texture as the tuna and went down great! I have yet to throw up or experience reflux! That BBQ was sooo good too! I don't know about you, but being able to chew something has been super-helpful in curbing that head hunger! I think most of us have to battle the head hunger cravings. I just pray it gets easier the further we go into this journey!
