  2. Happy 51st Birthday angiebell!

  3. Angiebell, I see that we have the same insurance (UNited Healthcare) and I see that you were not very large to begin with. My BMI is 36. What was yours before surgery? When I called United today to see if they covered the surgery they said they do for BMI's of 40 and over. Ugh! If you get this please email me at maggiemclean@hotmail.com

    Major Hairloss..Any suggestions?

Mine has been falling out for 2 years but new ones grow back. It is a pain because the bathroon floor is alway covered in hair. I just cut off 8" from my hair and it still falls out. You just have to learn to live with it. When the new ones stop growing back in then I will worry!

    What Makes A Port Flip???

I just had surgery to repair my flipped port. I think it may be starting to flip again. They told me it is most common in active people. I don't have any stats to prove that though. I had my surgery on the 16th and think I did way to much on some home remodeling. I pray I didn't mess it up again. I am worried becuase My port is sticking out again and feels like it is turned. It is only when I stand up. Sitting on lying down it is flat. I have a mini port so it should not stick out.

    Flipped Port

Had my port revison done on August 16th. They put me under twilight sedation and the procedure went very smootly. The used the same incision and I said my port was tilted on it's side and was not completely flipped over. I am happy though because I have a mini port that was designed to to stick out too much and with it turned at an angle it kind of defeated the purpose. Now it lays flat, other than the swelling. I had an ugly scar too from the original surgery that kind of stuck out and it looks like that is fixed too. I had changed doctors and used Dr. Benavides for my port revision. So far I believe I am happy with the results. He also gave me a small fill of .2cc's.

    Anyone have port problems??

My port was tilted and they could not access it the last time I went in for a fill. I had a mediport revision last week and they say it should stay in tact this time.

Pain around the port, please help !

Give it time to heal. It takes several weeks but the pain will go away. I had the same experience. Now my port is flipped after 2 years and I have to get it repostioned. They can tell when you get your first fill if your port is turning. My was on it's side for a year and now has flipped completely over. That's what I would watch for because mine started out like yours. Pain, antibiotic, felt better, still no pain, but it has flipped.

    port flipped

My port had always been flipped on it's side and I went for a fill yesterday after about a year of no fills and it has flipped completely over...so yes, I do believe it is progressive. If your port is at an angle you will most likely find that sometime in the future it will by unaccessible. I am having mine repaired on August 16th. I am surprised so many people are having this issue.

    Flipped Port

Bigbaby, I would be interested to hear the results. I went for a fill yesterday and it had been a really long time since I had gone for one and my port was completely flipped over too. They tried to inject from 7 different positions and everytime they hit metal. I am scheduled for surgery to have it flipped back over on August 16th. I'll be anxious to hear how yours goes.

    Help - Long and Confusing

I have experienced very similar situations. I have not lost weight in a few months and I also go through days when I can't eat. It is ususally around that time of the month. I went through the whole fill/unfill thing that I am just happy to be at a level where I can eat sometimes. On those days that I can't eat, I just wait because in a few days it will pass and I can eat again. I eat small portions and I have found one thing that helps on the days that you can't eat is to eat very slowly. You may PB a few times, but eventually you will loosen up and be able to eat something and keep it down. It may take me two hours to eat, but I am okay with that. Currently I wear a size 12. I would like to be 30 lbs lighter but I am grateful for the weight loss that I have experienced so far. I don't think you are in the minority though. My husband, best friend and myself were all banded within a month of one another and we have all had the same experience. I had an endoscopy when I was having all the trouble with fills and everything was fine. I think some people just have this reaction. I blame my lack of additional with loss on the fact that I have not been exercising. I do not overeat, sometimes I eat do not the most healthy choices, and sometimes I also eat ice cream:) Try eating at different times and if your PB's are like mine...it's more like the food just comes back up, no pain really. That's why I keep trying, because eventually I can eat a little. DO NOT try and over eat. If you can keep down a 1/2 of soup that is good. Hope that helps. I would still speak with you doctor. I jsut wanted you to know there are lots of people that have the same problem.
