  1. Today was day 8 of my pre-op liquid diet and I had my pre-op testing today. Blood work, x-rays, EKG and urine. When they weighed me I lost 8 pounds. Six more days to go on this and then surgery. Our days will be here before you know it. We got this!
  2. I'm on day 8 now. The first few days were tough. Now it is just boring. I am getting a little sick of the Protein shakes, but I try to mix them up a little. I would like something to eat that is not sweet. Other than that, getting close to the prize. Hang in there. Time will go by and you'll be happy you did it.

    pre surgery

Me too. Best of luck to you! First day of the rest of our new lives!
  4. I had two string cheese sticks last night for dinner instead of my Protein shake. It was my sixth day on the pre-op diet and I just needed to chew something so badly. Felt so good, but I got it out of my system and am back on track. Seven more days to go and I can't guarantee I won't do it again, but for 99% of the time I'm getting through it. I try to keep busy doing other things too. Never realized how much time I wasted thinking about food or eating.

    Pre-op Optifast day 3

Day 3 of my pre-op diet and stopped at a stop light with a catering van next to me with life sized pictures of scrumptious looking food. I was drooling.
  6. Allbeauty: I think it just takes a few days. Today is day 6 of my 14 day pre-op clear liquid diet. The first two days it was real stomach hunger. The next two days it was head hunger with being light-headed and dizzy. By the fifth day, I was fine. No head hunger and no stomach hunger. Almost one week down, but a whole week to go. I hope it stays like this and no other problems. I think getting through the first few days is the toughest. We can do this. I just keep picturing the pot at the end of the rainbow. Try to keep busy. Good luck and stay in touch!
  7. I love your story and hope I can experience that also. Congratulations!
  8. patjcare: I am on day 4 of the pre-op diet too. The first 3 days were horrible. I was starving too. Today, not so bad. I guess I'm getting used to it. 3 Meal Replacement shakes a day, Jello, ice pops and broth. It was harder with the head hunger than the stomach hunger. I'm scheduled for May 6, so we will all be in this together. Please keep us posted on how you are all doing along the way and good luck to all of you!!!
  9. That is wonderful! So happy for you. I hope I experience that feeling some day!

    2 week pre-op diet

My pre-op diet consists of 3 Meal Replacement shakes, sf Jello, sf ice pops, lots of Water, broth. I have been drinking the Vitamin water zero as my water. It has no calories and 4 carbs. Maybe I should try the regular vitamin water with some calories in it?
  11. I hope you don't mind, I added you all as friends. Maybe we can all go through this together and support each other. Good luck to us all!

    2 week pre-op diet

Day 3 of the liquid diet. Doing okay. I am only getting in around 600 calories and my doctor said I need to get in close to 1200. If I double up on the shakes, I go way over on my Protein. Does anyone have any suggestions? TIA
  13. That's just two months? That is AWESOME!!
  14. I am having my surgery the same day as you. I am on day 2 of my pre-op diet. I did the same thing. I went back and forth during the past six months. I'm glad I had that wait period. I thought maybe I can do it myself. I thought this is such a drastic step. And it is. But I have realized that this is the only way I can permanently lose weight and get healthy. I have realized that I don't want food to control my life anymore. Had I had this surgery without that six month period, I probably would have made a mistake. I had some time to change the way I think about food and I really believe this is it. I think it is normal that you are feeling this way. Keep reading up and watch some you tube videos. If you watch Leah's VSG Journey, she has covered all these emotions and feelings that we have had. I found it to be very helpful and I think you may also. Best of luck to you. You will be fine and you can do this. Think of how much happier you will be later on.
  15. I am on my pre-op diet now. I have used EAS myoplex Lite, chocolate and vanilla; Muscle milk lite, chocolate fudge; and Premier protein, strawberry & cream. I add 1/2 cup skim milk to it and crushed ice and blend it for a shake-like drink. So far I like all of them. I like the Premier and the Muscle Milk better than the EAS, but it isn't terrible. I haven't tried Nectar, but someone at my support group recommended it also. I am going to look for that one.

    pre op liquid diet

That's funny. I was just going to ask the same question. I was just wondering about broth? I bought the low-fat, low-sodium, but I think it may still have too much sodium. Good question!

    2 week pre-op diet

Just started my pre-op liquid diet today. One thing I forgot to do ahead of time was wean myself off of the coffee. I realized that this morning, so what I did was just had a half cup with a little skim milk. I figured I could do a little less each morning. I don't drink it any other time during the day anymore. I hope that will work. We can do this!!!!

    here we go again...

Hi TracieR. I am also scheduled for May 6. I am hopeful that everything will go okay. I'll keep you in my prayers for that day also. Let me know how you are doing.
  19. Has anyone ever used Optisource Post Bariatric Surgery Chewable Vitamin and Mineral Supplement? I saw it at Walgreen's today. It says it has high levels of Calcium, Vitamin D, vitamin B12, Iron Folic Acid, Thiamin and Zinc. I thought it may be easier to just have to take one chewable tablet post-op.

    Bariatric Vitamins

Oh, you are right. I didn't realize that. So I guess they are okay to take?
  21. I have to tell you that I was not 100% sure of having this surgery early on. I kept going back and forth. The main reason was because I thought I would miss my food too much. I am two weeks away from surgery. What actually sealed the deal for me was attending WLS support group meetings. You can speak with other people who have already had surgery and others who are contemplating surgery. I found it to be so very helpful in making my decision. I got to meet and speak with others who had the surgery and told me how their experiences have been. I look forward to going to these meetings now. I feel so Enlightened after I leave and so ready for this. I don't know if you will feel the same way, but it may just help you make a final decision. Good luck to you! There are always people here who will help you out too!
  22. I was just talking about this yesterday. My surgery is May 6th. I was telling the support group that in order to get through the post-op discomfort and recouping, I will be on the computer "window shopping" for new clothes. I have a big family wedding in September that I am looking at dresses for. I have a vacation to the Bahamas in February that I am looking at bathing suits for. I think that should keep me focused on doing what I need to do during this journey. I like your thinking!!

    Insurance papers

Yes, put all of it down. That helps the insurance co. see that you have tried diets and they haven't worked for you.

    Just waiting on UHC...

Kbrown28 and Rebellious - I have UHC and had to do what you did. My BMI was under 40 and I was afraid I would have to fight for the surgery. To my surprise, they approved it right away. It took exactly two weeks after I finished my six month requirements. My surgery is May 6th. Once you are approved, it will happen quickly. Good luck to both of you and keep us posted!!
