  1. Hey guys, I have been reading some of these threads and decided I would put myself out there. I am 63 y/o I have type 1 diabetes for over 50 yrs. I weigh 261 at the start with a BMI of 43! I have sleep apnea, hypertension, cardiac disease with several stents in place. I have limited mobility do to weight and DM. The surgery, which I have though about for a number of years but always dismissed it because I "can lose weight on my own" yeah right. Yo yo diets all my life, weight loss then regain which ended up higher than where I started. Slowly over the years my weight kept going up, my mobility getting less and less. I became an observer of life rather than participating. Well I decided on June 12th that I would throw down the gauntlet and go for it. I am excited to get the surgery over with and start watching the weight come off. I feel better already with just losing the 19 lbs preop. So I am with you guys all the way. I know it won't be easy adjusting my insulin (by pump) to the far fewer intake of calories and carbs. But I will get through it. I know very few things that are really life changing come easy.

Hello everyone, I am Dave, having VSG on Dec. 2 of this year. Nov 15th is my appt with the Bariatric team @ UPENN to begin the preop diet. I have already lost 19 lbs going into the last month. Starting weight 261 now 242. I am hoping to get some real life advise and a heads-up on things I can expect from this forum.
