I was also sleeved on Monday! Praise God that I didn't have any complications. I can sip but then the gas pains kick in. I expected my incision site to be sore for a while. But this gas in unforgivable...
We got to hang in there ladies!

I've suffered with Migraines for yrs. After surgery on 11-4-13 I've had 2 small headaches. Before surgery I took excedrin Migraine. I didn't want prescription drugs as long as the excedrin was working. Little over 4 wks out and I'm amazed at the difference. I was scared I would have to be put on prescription meds due to no more nsaids!

I know before my surgery in September I had bad headaches. They pretty much lasted all day. I couldn't take any meds I know would work to take the pain away. Extra strength Tylenol does not work for me. I was having caffeine withdrawals. After surgery was a different story. I got a headache the day after but so far it's like I'm cured from my Migraine headaches I used to have everyday. I am so much happier without those headaches

I have to say I'm glad that I've only had to use my imitrex injection once since surgery I'm 8 weeks out. I still take my topamax and propranolol when I remember lol but thank god I'm not suffering from Migraines every week. Almost like a cure.

I'm anxious to hear replies from other sufferers. I'd be tickled to find out people's Migraines decrease after surgery - one more reason to be excited about getting this done!

It seems to me that exercise changes the shape of your body, so when the fat goes, there is a shape there formed by what you do. I do belly dance, and it really develops a "belly dance body" Runners, swimmers have very distinct body looks. It also helps my balance and such, but did I need to do it to get weight loss results? Probably not that much. I do eat back my exercise calories, and that has helped me stay on plan at times when I wanted more to eat.

I had my surgery July 29, 2013 so far I've lost 90lbs. I have not starting exercising per say but I park a little farther from the store and I walk to get my daughter off the bus. But other than that I have just been counting calories I usually eat around 1000-1200 calories a day and I usually eat 5-6 meals a day .I plan on starting exercing as soon as I notice my weight loss as stopped. Actually the studies prove that diet has more to do with weight loss than exercise. Having said that, the benefits to exercise are too numerous to list....but not absolutely essential to weight loss. Nor is it anyone's business to tell us what we "have to do." I'm way too stubborn to do what other people tell me I HAVE to do.

I hear ya! And I'm not fully convinced of the validity of their statement anyway. Sure, exercise will help with burning fat and with one's physique, but the scale often doesn't move a lot when someone is on at least a moderate exercise routine. Reason being.....they are adding muscle. Just tell them......."I got this".

I felt great. Also the 24th of October. Needed help from my friend to drive home. Stopped taking painkillers the first day home. Drove the second day. I was really up and around almost normally by a week later…but felt well enough by Sunday. I had my kids carry laundry baskets upstairs for me and take the garbage out. Little rats should do that anyway.
Have your family around if it will be nice for you. If they're not traveling a long way maybe have them on call just in case. Not everyone does as well as we did. I also had one of my friends deliver dinner one night, and that was lovely (but not necessary enough to engage the dinner chain in my town.) My family is far away, but I had let a number of people know I was having surgery. Other than giving one kid a ride the night I got home from the hospital, I didn't have to ask them for anything.

I know exactly what you mean. No one at work knows that I had surgery. They just think I am on a diet. We have lunch meetings frequently and there is this one person that consistently goes out of her way to ask my why I'm eating so little or be sarcastic about it or try and pressure me into eating more in front of everyone. It's totally uncomfortable and getting to be a real issue to me. Clearly I don't want to tell you why, so quit making a big deal about it!!!!! Most people will say "is that all you're eating" I'll say "yeah" and that's the end of it. Not her..... (insert eye roll)

MississippiQueen reacted to aroundhky in Gym etiquette.....is it just me......
Guys and gals.......looking for some honest feedback here......
I'm at the gym at lunch today and I'm doing upper back (pullups, bent over rows, seated rows & rear delt flies). I usually do them in that order as well. So while I'm doing my pullups and bent over rows, I see this guy doing some stuff with dumbbells in the dumbbell section using several different sets of dumbbells while bouncing around all over the gym doing other things (different lifting stations, talking, etc). Every 5 minutes or so he would circle back to the dumbbell section and do a set or two and leave to use something else in the gym and come back. Anyway, by this time I'm well into my seated row sets. About my 2nd set, I can still see the guy is away from his dumbbells and for a long time now....10-15 minutes they've just been sitting there on the floor, not re-racked, but also not being used. I look around and he's nowhere to be seen and I know that my rear delt flies are next and some of the dumbbells he has left lying out are the ones I'll be using on my rear delt flies that are next. Another 5-10 minutes pass and I finish up my 4th set of seated rows. He is still nowhere to be found...I'm guessing "Elvis" has left the building. So I go over there and start in on my first set of dumbbell flies with a set of the dumbbells he left lying on the floor. While I'm pushing out my last couple of reps all of a sudden he appears and I see him with my peripheral vision looking at me very anxiously. I finish up and look at him and just nodded my head acknowledging him, but not saying anything. He told me was using those dumbbells. Going on instincts.....I'm wondering if we have a problem here and I'm measuring him up. He's fairly big and muscular, but kind of short and looking not all that flexible. I have the reach on him, but he's younger....probably 30 or so. But I want to allow for due diligence before getting into whatever he may be seeking. Thinking I have to at least try and seek out diplomacy, I replied back that they had been laying on the floor for about 20 minutes and since my time in the gym is limited (I'm on my lunch break), I needed to use them as I didn't have a lot of time to spare. He seemed to be going through some type of roid rage by this time. So I'm trying to compromise for us both, probably more than he deserved, and I offered him to work in with me if he wanted. I've been seeing that the dude had been trying to piss all over so many stations at the gym in an apparent attempt to mark his territory or something and thinking he can claim several different stations and implements, while at the same time holding everyone else in the gym hostage and expecting us to wait while he goes and does something else. I'm thinking, I'm not going along with this and I'm not going to be a full on enabler, so I'm not leaving "his area" like he wanted. But I do offer a compromise and offered him to work in with me. He then gets all loud talking saying...."Well I was in the middle of using this but you know what....I can just go do these on the cable machine" like he was all put out and making sure everyone heard this and knew about it. It worked, I could see people stopping and looking. I just shrugged my shoulders and went about my business after telling him that I don't mind him working in with me. He acted all butt hurt and was really loud on the cable machines a few feet away trying to cause a scene or something. I do another 3 sets of rear delt dumbbell flies and leave to go back to work.
It's guys like this that think the gym is theirs that really chap my a$$! Everyone else there is paying for their membership and have as much right to the equipment as he does. No wonder so many people who genuinely want to workout...don't.....because of people like this dude.
Anyway......was I wrong to go and use the precious dummbbells of his that were left lying in the floor for 20 minutes not being used..... and with him nowhere in sight? Should I have given it more time for him to show up and start using these again..... risking me not being able to do the rear delt flies due to running out of time? On my way back to work, I thought to myself that maybe I was a little harsh or too confrontational. But the more I think about it, I think I gave him more than enough time. Not that he deserved it. I feel that his approach of trying to save 4-5 stations and expecting everyone else to steer clear of all of them while he's there is a little absurd. Seems comparable to grabbing 4-5 pool chairs at a pool when there are not enough for everyone.....just so he can have them all to himself in case he needed them. Just wondering if I'm seeing this the wrong way...........
Perhaps I should've posted this in another forum instead of the exercise section.........? Not sure.....

MississippiQueen reacted to 1Day1Life4Now in The Reasons I Would Never Recommend This Surgery To Anyone Anymore.
I have found all of your posts very interesting and very informative. I am supposed to have my surgery in February 2014 but I am not open with anybody but my husband, daughter and my best friend. I realize there are very real complications out there. 5 years ago a coworker had a gastric bypass and died two weeks later due to complications. It turned me off of the possibility all together until I started thinking about things clearly. She was so overweight and had so many health problems she could have had a stroke or a heart attack and died just as easily. I come from a very thin family and I am the only overweight person in my family. In fact, I can't even recall a cousin that has a weight problem. So these people just do not understand the difficulties and feelings I've had with being over weight. They make the statement that if surgery only allows you to eat 2 ounces... then just eat 2 ounces at every meal and forego the surgery. They don't understand food addiction, stress eating, emotional binges or much of any of the other issues so I am not seeking support from them. I also feel if I'm not looking to them for support, there is no need for them to be informed of my surgery. I also don't think I would "recommend" it to anyone else. I found it on my own and I feel like if others are having issues, they will find the information on their own or a doctor will direct them to where they need to go. These are just my thoughts on the matter.

    To dry fry,
I cut up my tofu and SLOW fry it with no oil or butter you can use "pam" non stick spray.. on a non stick griddle or you can use a cast Iron pan.
I fry it on a lower heat to get the moisture out and crisp it up. I buy mine at trader joes (extra firm) Also after you dry fry it you can do different things with it...like marinade in anything (it is tasteless so will soak up any flavor) and stir fry with veggies I like it marinaded sometimes but I will also eat it just straight from the fridge cold after dry frying it. I will grab a piece and dip it into hummus too.

You can always impolitely inform them that what they're doing is against the law, and you'll be contacting the medical commissioners office reference their inability to pull their heads out of their asses.
FWIW, I had all of my records mailed to me by numerous doctors, I didn't trust the nurses aids to be able to comprehend what I needed or what my surgeon needed, plus I don't like the "end of the day" attitude most doctors have, I wanted my stuff faxed over ASAP to not slow anything down.
Be steadfast with them, and stay on them about it. Regardless of their personal opinion, it's their job to send the records when properly requested, and it's against the law to not send them when requested properly. If they keep jacking around, I'd have a very stern talk with someone higher up there and lay things out plain and simple. Either they get their act together or the next person they'll be speaking to is a rep from the medical board (make sure to at least look up the name of a rep in your area for authenticity play).

My brother (the Smarty Pants doctor) offered me some great insight when I was venting to him about the same thing. He said to keep in mind that we all probably have a good bit of fat between our organs and we could be losing that. And that's the fat you want gone because it's best for you long term health.
It eased my mind a bit, so hope it helps you out too!
