    Omg so much pain

i understand! I'm 4 days out, this isn't my first go-round with abdominal surgery, and I still feel like i got run over by a truck. I groused the whole time in the hospital that I didn't think the pain relief regimen I was on was right for me, but couldn't get them to change it - I suspect because it was Thanksgiving and they were short-staffed. They also sent an occupational therapist in the day after who didn't take it seriously when she was helping me get in and out of bed and I said I felt a burning, ripping sensation behind one incision (the big one in the crease of my belly). Even now that's the number one thing that bothers me - it's not inflamed on the outside, but will burn so badly it brings tears to my eyes. Hang in there - it has to get better, right?

    Hormonal acne

I get hormone related cystic acne (2-3 spots at a time, usually) during Shark Week as a pre-op. After reading about how our hormones tend to go wonky after surgery, I'm kind of expecting it to get worse before it gets better. Is that the case? If so, has anyone out there found a good product / method / ritual to keep it under control? I'm not too worried about the "regular" acne, I'm a pro with foundation, but the cystic stuff hurts. Thanks!

    Hormonal acne

it might be worth it!! I've been sliced up before, and it doesn't tickle, but I think a face full of cysts would hurt worse! Can't put an icepack on it and call in sick, lol. Well, I COULD, but they already think I'm nuts
  7. It's tough, isn't it? calcium citrate is so expensive and unlike Protein shakes, it's a lot harder to get samples. Once you order you're kind of stuck unless you can afford to try again. You might be thinking of the Calcet Creamy Bites. I haven't tried them, though I've heard they are delicious - when I look at the amount my doctor wants me to take every day the cost makes me nauseous. I honestly question the need for calcium citrate in sleevers - I know reduced acid makes calcium carbonate harder to absorb, but that doesn't seem to be an issue among sleevers like it is for bypass patients. It seems like most of us have more of an acid issue. I got a giant jug of Bariatric Advantage wild cherry chewABLE calcium (vs chewY - these are like thick wafers, kind of like a giant sweet tart). They're highly rated, but I find them extremely sour and I'll be glad when they're gone. If you PM me your address, I'd be happy to find something to put a couple of them in so they don't get crushed and send them to you to try.
  8. My youngest brother had a heart attack. If that doesn't clear up any doubts about getting this done, I don't know what will.

Not super heavy, but he had other bad habits and we have a strong family history. I just know now how important it is to take care of myself so I don't head down the same track!

    Hormonal acne

Oh gosh - layers of toxins? I've got 300 pounds worth of strata to work through, I'm imagining one of those sci-fi facehuggers bursting out at me sometime around the halfway mark, lol! I may have to make the leap to a dermatologist, but knock on wood it won't get worse!
  10. I'm laughing so hard right now, but at me, not you - I used to think about this all the time when I was on the DS track. If we had a natural disaster, I would secretly covet whatever junk food I could get my hands on. I mean, it's for survival, right?
  11. Crystal Light doesn't suck. I feel like it used to. Sorry I waited so long to try it again!

I mainly use the lemonade crystal light. Do you have a favorite?

So far, definitely the lemonade. I remember it used to have a weird aftertaste, but now it tastes like lemonade flavored kool-aid.

    Opinion about coat?

So, March of last year my coat got a giant rip in it. I pitched it because it wasn't in a spot that could be easily or inconspicuously repaired, and didn't think about it again (I was feeling optimistic about the surgery timeline). Fast forward to November. It's STUPID cold, and the only coat I have left is too small to zip (it won't fit over a sweater at all, but I don't have many of those left either...I haven't purchased / replaced much clothes in the last couple of years). Surgery is next Tuesday. If you were me, would you go ahead and get a coat that fits right now just to be warm, and deal with the fact that it's going to be baggy by the end of winter and probably unwearable next year, or would you suck it up and deal with a coat that doesn't quite fit now, hoping that enough weight will come off (and quickly enough) to wear this one for the rest of the winter?
  13. Well, of COURSE that's why you did it - isn't that why we all risk our lives to get this done? Sorry, sarcasm is my first language. I'm really sorry you're dealing with this, and I sure hope you're able to work things out. Don't let it derail your progress - you're worth more than that.
  14. I'm looking for a fairly priced (okay, cheap) winter coat, preferably 30/32 or loose fitting 26/28. Looking locally too, but thought maybe someone here might have one at hand . Surgery is next week, and I'm trying to avoid buying a brand new one! Thanks!
  15. 6 days left, and my list of to-do's is growing. If I die, I'm going to die with a dirty house.

LOL! That actually sounds like a good idea. I think it's going to be my 50 pound reward :)

I have a little longer, my surgery is December 10th. I am doing the same thing with trying to clean out closets and the laundry room and get rid of all the junk and clutter my family has horded. It feels metaphoric to losing the extra weight my body has been carrying around. I have a tendency to get a little OCD with my cleaning lists. I like the idea of hiring someone for the cleaning, but December is not a month with anything extra in the budget. I think we need to give ourselves a little grace and be happy with what we are able to accomplish. I wish you the best in your endeavors!

Yeah, that's a good point - I'm kind of at the stage where I've accepted that I still have to go to work tomorrow, and other than changing my sheets what's done is about all that is going to get done :). Thank you for the good wishes, and I wish you the best right back! :)

  16. I'm definitely interested! It'll be nice to have more than a warm back .

    Opinion about coat?

Good points, I'm actually cringing at the idea of going outside. I think I'm going to have to cave and get the coat . I found one on bcoutlet really cheap - not in love with it, but it's a coat! I understand going nuts on stuff. The K-mart near me just shut down, and when I went in all the women's summer tops were $1.20. I didn't even look at sizes, I just grabbed. Now I have $25 worth of medium and large summer tops in my closet that may or may not ever fit, lol.

    Opinion about coat?

Thanks! I think I'll be living with this one unless I can find a cheap Wal-Mart coat or something. It's such a trivial problem in the grand scheme of things, but it fell into the "one more thing to deal with, and a week left to figure it out" pile...which is growing exponentially, lol.

    GOING TO SLEEP HUNGRY

I can't sleep hungry either. Been having a Protein shake or something right before bed if I need it. I don't just sleep badly, I'll get up in the morning will a full blown migraine. So yeah, eat

Yes, breathing is a great place to start....literally. There are many breathing/relaxation and surgery preparation FREE videos out there on-line. I used them and did great with my stress/anxiety. I still use some of the exercises for managing mindful eating. Breathing Is Good!

Best Wishes and remember to keep us posted..

    Need advise badly

It sounds like you may be in a position of having to start over soon anyway - if that's the case, things like looking for work and having to keep up with everything as a single person might be easier when you've lost the extra weight. Either way, it's a big decision and I wish you the best!
