  1. Thank You JanetteH for your impute above. I guess not knowing what to expect is a lot of the worry. Now to get going on he other part of my problem and refocus myself for the next few weeks!
  2. My surgery is scheduled for July 30th, but it may be up to 2 weeks earlier. My pre-op apt is July 3rd, so i'm thinking it will be earlier than originally planned. My biggest concern is eating pureed foods. I really have a tough time getting it down, so if anyone has any suggestions, i'm listening. It is also hard to stay motivated lately with so much time out before surgery. I am hoping I can get refocused o what I am doing and stop these eating binges I have been on.

    Repetitive and Circuitous Topics....

NMJG.....I just didn't hear anything funny about that conversation. You may be right, maybe I don't have a sense of humor. I have always thought I did, but I guess I missed the humor in that one. Thank you dear for enlightening me. I will try and have more humor in any future comments. Just trying to get as much info. from people who have gone through WLS.

    Repetitive and Circuitous Topics....

I for one don't mind the repenitive questions from others. Everybody has different viewpoints and can offer other views to the same questions. And everybody wants to learn of personal experiences that others have experienced. Just maybe you should be on others sites so your not having to worry about a meltdown, or worse total boredom........Just my opinion....
  5. Congrats on your idea for this new chapter in the capital district area. I expect to have my RNY in June if all goes well. I have been in this process since December and I am almost at the end. In 10 days I see the sleep doctor and check my results with my cpap machine. If I have shown improvement since my study [in January], and I expect to, she will clear me for my surgery. Then its just waiting for the insurance approval I have CDPHP. I too have Dr Trivedi as my doctor. Were you pleased with everything, the doctor, staff etc? One question I have concerns about, being able to pick up the phone and check with him or his staff on my current process and exactly where i'm at. Also were you happy with all your follow-up? Sorry, I had more questions than I realized. Its just great to converse with someone who's been there with my doctor. Any advise would be appreciated.
  6. I expect to be cleared by my doctor as far as my sleep apnea goes in the next 3 weeks. Then my doctors send in my insurance request for WLS at that point. I hope to be approved by early May. My issue is that I am going out of the country to visit my daughter and her new husband on May 7th. I was asked to drop 10 pounds before the surgery date and actually lost 13 pounds. I am at the end of this journey to get cleared but I find it hard to focus on maintaining my weight loss. While I expect my trip t Vienna to be my last fling, I'm finding it hard to stay motivated now. I am not sure if its the time involved, or that I have not been in touch with my doctor since December. Everday is a battle and I have gained 3 pounds. That still puts me at where I should be, but I have at least 3 months to go. How do I stay focused on maintaining my weight and not go back to my bad habits. I find it a real issue and I don't know how to stay on the right track. Any help from my friends out there would e appreciated.

    Man, 50s, started at 350+

Great topic BariatricMan.... am 67 and have been on the same treadmill of yo yo dieting etc. I have elected to have gastric bypass and hope to complete it in June. I have just remarried in the last 3 years and I too feel its time I get my health in order. I am getting to the end of my doctors visit and expect to get my final clearance in the next 3 weeks. I am looking forward to putting this old unhealthy life style aside. At present I am having a hard time trying to keep focused on eating the right way. If you look back on my past post you will learn my story. I am looking forward to your post and and following your journey . Any comments from you are appreciated and hoping I can be of help to you if the same arises
  8. In my case I need to show progress in the early stages of using my cpap because my doctor requires it. I will be out of the country for 2 weeks in early May, so I want to get isurance co. approval before I leave. As long as I show improvement for the 3 weeks before I go back to the doctors, they will clear me. I will have to use the cpap machine until I actually have the surgery. And as you know, one of the benefits of the weight loss should be the regression of the sleep apnea. So i'm confident that it will improve and I can get on with this. My insurance co. is actually run by doctors, so their approach to approval is quite different. I am not sure about other insurance, but that's how mine works.
  9. Het Kittydream, I just completed my sleep study few weeks ago. And I found out that I do have sleep apnea. My breathing stopped 48 times in a hour so it is a concern. I have been cleared by all my other doctors at this point. Tomorrow I will meet with a home care company to be fitted for a mask to help my breathing. It will be monitored for a few weeks and if my apnea improves with its use, they will clear me for surgery. This is the last part of my testing so I am ready to get on with getting an approval. I am expecting to have it done in June if all goes well. I will keep you informed of my progress. I started this journey in December so its moving right along. Good luck with all you are going thru and I think you will get a lot of help from all the folks on this site
  10. As I think about it, my real journey started in late November of 2013. That's when I made the decision to attend one of the seminars put on by one of our local hospitals. Because I am older 67 at present, I had many concerns if this was the right way for me to go. I had only remarried 2 years ago to my high school sweetheart and she was content with the way I am. I have always had a weight issue and have lost hundreds of pounds over the years. Like everyone else I loose easily, but gain it all back to easily also. So I saw my surgeon in December and made the decision t go thru the process to see if I qualify and if I can make the changes necessary to be successful. I first had to go in for the psych. evaluation. Two sessions later I was cleared by the doctor. Next came the Nutritionist and the Pulmonary doctors for their evaluation. Three weeks ago I had my upper GI series and Endoscopy done [due to Barretts] Next on my list was an ultrasound for a slight heart murmur that was found. My final check in was with the cardiologist to go over the results of my ultrasound...Two weeks ago I went in for my sleep study that was done due to my sleep apnea.. Now I am finally getting to the end of these appointments with my appt. for the results of my sleep study tomorrow. Up to this point , all doctors have cleared me for my surgery. As soon as my study results are confirmed, I expect to be cleared and my doctor should forward to my insurance company. I expect to finish this journey in June after my return from visiting my daughter in Austria in May. I will be 68 when I complete this and my age is still a concern for me. Any other oldies out there who have gone thru this and have had similar concerns, I would love to hear from you. As soon as I have my approval and surgery date, I will update everyone. This blog has been so much help to me in coming to my final decision. I so enjoy reading about all your concerns and the information that you all put out. I have come to realize that I am not alone in my feelings. Please keep your comments coming...so very much appreciated!

    Just Curious

I originally wanted the sleeve process but because of my Barretts, I could not. The sleeve would cause more refluxe and would make my condition worse. And as already stated, I will have to follow the plans after I have the Rouen Y. And for me I need the forced discipline of the gastric surgery to loose weight and change my habits. I am 67 years old and will be 68 when I have my surgery. And I plan on it adding years to my life with the new lifestyle. I just completed my sleep study and go for the results in 2 weeks. Then a final appt. with the cardiac docs and its done. Then the wait for the insurance company approval. Due to an already planned out of the country trip in May, I hope to have a June surgery date.

    Surgery after 65

I am in the process of going thru all the doctors for clearance for this surgery. I am at the end of my testing and expect to be approved and have the surgery in June. I will be 68 years old and I suffer from reflux, high blood pressure, sleep apnea. I still wonder everyday if I should be doing this at my age, but I know I cannot do it on my own. I expect most of my health issues will be eliminated by going this route. I want to be around as long as I can for my family. I have about 90=100ibs to loose. I second guess myself everyday but I just look at the pros and cons of having the surgery. Do you go through this also? Any input from other older folks would be appreciated. I am a candidate for the Rouen y surgery at present. The sleeve was not recommended due to my reflux issues.
