    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

    - I was sleeved on dec12 and still struggling to get in minimum 50g protein and 48oz water per my NUT On a good day I'm probably getting in around 300 calories -- 30g protein and 32 oz water Incredibly weak these days too; lost about 25lbs in 3 weeks since surgery Didn't think 3 weeks out would look like this but it should get better I had hiatal hernia repair same time so I believe that is my greatest challenge ... I actually broke down and cried while on the phone with my NUT the other day; it hurt so bad to sip anything Im doing a bit better with sipping now due to the carafate solution my surgeon prescribed me but still not easy -- I'm thankful for the tiny progressions Best wishes to you!!
  2. -- Maybe your energy is coming from the cheese and Tuna/chicken -- I can't start those for a while I can't wait for my energy to kick up cause this feeling is not fun My NUT told me to "keep trying" too -- not to sure if they realize how repulsing it is to drink protein shakes all day and the pain it causes with hernia repair Best wishes to you too!
  3. --- I would suggest trying only 1 of those isopure clear drinks cause they probably the worst drink I've tasted in my lifetime I'm 3 weeks out today and won't be able to start tuna and cheese until the start of week 5 and I doubt i will be able to even tolerate much cause water and shake even Soups and yogurt tolerance is pretty low now
  4. --- I'm 3 weeks out today and feel similar to you Everyone says it will get better. I'm hopeful Takes me 1.5-2 hours to finish 9oz of a blended Protein Shake Takes me an hour to get down 8 oz of plain bottled water On a good day I am probably getting in 30g of protein and 4 cups of water which is not good at all My nut and PA want me to get in 50-70g protein and 6-8 cups of water daily I also had hernia repair which is the where the vast majority of my discomfort and pain come from -- my surgeon prescribed me a pink solution (carafate) to take 3x a day and it has helped a bit with sipping and the hernia pain and pulsing but still no complete relief I am able to get down my vitamins thank God -- it's the only thing I really look forward too and ice chips Just tried the liquid in wonton Soup today and that was tasty but not sure if its helping much with energy Very very weak and tired .. I've been off work for 3 weeks but I need more time possibly another 3 weeks cause it's a big challenge to get enough liquids in I don't feel comfortable driving anywhere over 5 minutes away -- still feel light/warm headed when I stand up I'm constipated even tho I have taken 2 colace capsules with no luck yet I was in ER for dehydration on day 11 and trying to stay positive in this new year for normalcy to come around soon I had tons of energy prior to VSG and I can't wait to get back to those levels or much closer -- I know I've gone through major surgery and my body needs time to heal and adjust but it's emotionally and physically very challenging for me I'm continuing to pray on it and focus on the freedom I will have in the near future Best of luck to you!! PM if you like for support through our struggles

December 2013 Sleever Pounds Lost Log

Happy 2014!! Sleeved on 12.12.13 -- 3 weeks out on jan 2 Hw in 2013: about 260 Surg date: about 236 Cw jan1: 212.5 (almost 24 pounds lost in 3 weeks) My ultimate goal range: 165-170 but I just may surpass that depending on food tolerances and considering the 6 month restriction list from my NUT (no bread, rice, pasta, fried foods, sweets, soda, caffeine) I'm 5'7" large frame

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- I'm 3 weeks out and still not enough energy so will stick to walking for now I was in ER on day 11 for dehydration so I'm concerned About that too I really am looking forward to spin classes in the next month or so more than yoga -- I've only done it a few times this past summer but spinning is typically 2-4 times per week for me
  8. Yup I'm constipated too at day 20 post op this is not fun Had serious runs day 5-7 Last poop on dec22 so I'm 10 days with nothing Urine 2x per day

    Telling my family?

I agree with most of you -- my family and coworkers are nosy as hell I initially only told the ex husband, my mom and BFF -- I'm now a part of some WLS support groups on Facebook so more folks know I told my aunt the day of my surgery cause she's nosy as hell and I didn't want her to add to my anxiety but I live with her and couldn't get away with the time i am taking off of work. plus she ended up picking me up from the hospital -- I'm grateful for her but she is a nosy nelly and continues to ask me hundreds of questions as to why I did it despite my obvious long history of morbid obesity and yoyo dieting She still interrogates me at 19 days post op -- it's so EFFING annoying ... I have had to spend the past week at my moms place just to avoid her questions and stares My family makes comments when I gain and lose all the time over the past 15 years or so -- it's rarely positive in nature either I have To live my life for me My mom told my sisters and my 8yr old niece knows now but of course my niece doesn't fully understand I know my older sis will reveal to some cousins if she hasn't already cause she likes gossip and talking about other people in the family takes the focus off of her shortcomings I am not planing on telling a soul at work -- supreme gossipers there and info travels along super quick. My health, my business! I know a few ppl at work who have had WLS but still not sure if I will reveal to them My mom was against me going through with it but she was there to support me and I appreciate that however she really doesn't fully respect the healing process -- she offers me eggs and rice cakes and raw fruit on a daily basis and tells me to chug down my fluids despite my major hernia repair pain .... Ugh!!! That's life I guess
  10. So my surg date has been delayed until I take a sleep study according to my primary care physician I asked my friend who is a nurse why I would need to do this and she thinks its a waste of time for me as I don't have a heavy snore, I sleep like a baby 95% of the time and rarely get up at night, and i don't suffer from migraines or shortness of breath. Any input would be helpful. My only conclusion based on some brief Internet browsing is that the doc office gets a sweet cut of the sleep study cost. If that's the case, what a shame. Frustrated pre-oper here, but will still follow my doc's orders

    All of my December sleevers...

--My goal is about 170 as well -- surgery date weight around 237 and began journey at about 260 so I lost a bit on my own Still in pain and have regrets due to hernia repair and difficulty sipping fluids and staying hydrated and strong I'm looking at the brighter side that surgery went well and I'm hopeful the weight will fall off cause I'm already down 20 since surgery on dec12
  12. ---YouTube less of Sarah she started at 460 and is now 230 one year later post VSG Good luck!!! I'm post op day 19 but only have 45-50 to lose to hit my personal goal of 165-170 and stay in that range for life!!!!! I' ve lost 20 since surgery on dec 12 and a total of 43 since I started journey in oct 2013
  13. I had the runs day 4-7 post op then a few occasions of regular poop then no no2 at all day 11-19 Day 19 for me today I do feel a bit constipated but I'm not overly concerned as I'm still on full & Clear liquids have urine output each day and pass gas orally and from the bottom each day I'll see how it goes over the next few days

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

    December 2013 Sleevers Come In!

-- Feel better fast!! Those compression boots are very important and do save lives. Walking helps and so does the spirometer to maintain deep breathing. My throat didn't hurt a bit but boy were my lips dry. The ice chips helped me soooooo much in the beginning and still do even tho I don't have dry lips anymore. My back or shoulders never hurt but boy did I feel like I had a ton of bricks lodged in my chest cavity. Hernia pain kicked my ass and still does today at 18 days post op. it's a very emotional process so get ready to feel things like initial regret sadness frustration discomfort weakness fatigue and of course relief that the surgery is all over and you made it through safely. Best wishes!!

    How bad is the nausea?

--- I was in love with dilaudid and begged to take it home but the staff didn't allow it. The roxicet was not strong enough at all for me in the hospital but while at home it was ok. Roxi just made me sleepy initially. I had 2 Patches in hospital so no nausea no vomiting and don't think I ever really had nausea but took a few pills when I had broth at home just in case. I'm 18 days out and just feel weak due to insufficient fluids and hernia pain

    Dehydration

-- I'm 18 days out and was in ER on day 11 for dehydration which the docs initially thought was pancreatitis based on lab reports i guess although no fever normal blood pressure and normal oxygen .. I did have low blood sugar I'm still incredibly weak and can barely get fluids in due to hiatal hernia pain and pressure I feel like I will end up in ER again soon cause every time I stand up I feel like I will pass out. I also get light headed and warm at times It's been tough but keeping hydrated is a full time job for me now and soooo hard to do cause of the pain. I used to drink more than half my weight in ounces prior to VSG & hernia repair daily. I'm a rare plain Water lover so it sucks to be and feel dehydrated all the time.

    Water

Warm tea is good but still causes discomfort in chest area --- this hernia repair just doesn't like anything, I wake up with pulsing pain and have it throughout the day at times when I'm not drinking at all I tried es Tylenol for the first time yesterday with approval from my phys. Asst. and it gave me a bit of relief not a ton
  20. -- Well said Amanda!! No one can know for sure how it will feel to see your friends and Fam enjoying all your/their favorites socializing around the holidays and you stand there smelling all the great aromas but can't even have a bite You can read 100 books on it and still not know until you are living in it. Never heard about the difficulties of hernia repair either and boy was that a shocker for me; I'm so uncomfortable and it hurts to drink. Many folks I heard have hernia repair seem to not have many recovery issues and similar high pain level that I have. Not only can't I eat but it hurts to drink and i need fluids to function normally and stay out of the ER I chose to have surgery around holiday time cause its when I have the most time off from work due to university winter break schedule but even If it wasn't the holidays it would still be tough -- my family loves to eat and I love to bake so challenges would always exist no matter the time of year Most ppl I spoke to pre op just told me how they dont regret having the surgery glad they lost so much weight and wish they did it earlier .. No one really focused on how mentally draining it was the first couple months and how lack of energy could drive you crazy the way it is for me now I can't complain too much I know many suffer with several complications and although I have pain sadness and discomfort I'm hoping it will pass very very soon and I'll tolerate healthier good tasting food before i know it Yes speaking to many WLS folks who are newly out can help and I've watched tons of YouTube videos pre op and post but still until you are living the experience you won't fully understand I've even read about 5-7 day post op folks having tons of energy going for light jogs and off pain meds within 2 days .... Completely opposite of me and I was spinning 2-4 times a week and walking jogging 2-3 times a week prior to VSG; I felt amazing and thought I'd breeze right through recovery ..... Little did I know how different it would be no matter how life was prior to surgery
  21. --I'm looking forward to February when I can try real foods that will provide more Protein and energy do I don't feel so weak hope this sliding hernia repair pain subsides too ASAP -- it's the worst!!!
  22. sandisleeve

    Water

I told her they said sf and she says no they won't give energy and too much artificial sweetener I suppose

    Water

--My doc office suggests none of those drinks due to high sugar content-- I'm sooooo weak 17 days out and it hurts to sip due to sliding hernia repair pain .. At a loss
  24. -- I feel exactly as you do 17 days out I'm beyond weak and it hurts my chest to drink anything I had hiatal hernia repair same time as VSG I'm praying this passes ASAP -- I miss food but still no hunger at all

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

---Dr, I do have gasX strips and took a few in hospital and first couple days out but don't think it's gas pain i feel now--I really think its solely hernia pain at this point right in the middle of my chest between my breasts. Lots of pulsing and pressure. Seldomly i get a mild cramp in my sleeve area but not major. I never had pain in my shoulders the way many post Wls patients do. I've actually had more burping gas than "bottom" gas the entire time. I was on roxicet for about 6-7 days out of the hospital and that helped a lot but I didn't want to continue on with something that strong. Joan the PA suggested Tylenol for my hernia pain which I will try as soon as I get my hands on some. I only have advil around which dr N does not permit. I have anti nausea meds and I take them occasionally but doubt they do anything or if I really even need them as I'm really only slowly taking in full & clear liquids like shakes, broth, pops and Water. I blend up baby food and fage greek yogurt with vanilla shake sometimes. I take the pantoprazole joan prescribed me every day. I despise sf jello (the smell is rather unappetizing to me). Warm tea is good but still causes pressure. Ive actually always liked ice cold everything and in the hospital ice chips were my favorite however they do cause some discomfort. It's a slow go for me but I will try my best to do what I have to do. I still feel so weak and lightheaded but my urine is not awfully dark so I don't fear dehydration at this point
