  1. Are any recent post-ops having trouble taking in adequate Protein and liquids?.... I realize it is like a full time job to be on top of this but it's really a challenge I'm 2 weeks out with VSG & hiatal hernia repair and simply don't have enough energy to get in enough; my chest hurts when I keep trying to get things in slowly throughout the day My NUT wants me to get in 50g protein and 6 cups of Water daily ... I tried thinned out oatmeal with Protein powder and almond milk but it caused so much pressure/pulsing in the middle of my chest --I think I managed to get in all of 3 tablespoons this morning and it took me one hour to consume I try my best to drink water but its a slow go even though I love plain water I mix in my premier chocolate RTD shake with decaf coffee and that was pretty good but still a slow go I feel like I need to get a shot for energy every day until I'm able to eat more cause I get so fatigued I end up falling asleep before I get enough in The past few days I think I've gotten in maaaaybe 15-20g protein and around 3-4 cups of water on most days ... This can't be healthy I will call my doc office Tomorrow for suggestions but this is a rough go
  2. Thanks butter! I sure hope so too. Just weighed in @ 216.2 this morning - 17 days out with 20 pound loss (a bit too fast to me)

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

Thanks for the suggestion, I do have plain designer whey so will try that out. It's just a very slow process of getting things in due to chest pain I have some pain when I wake up even before drinking
  4. -- I'm 17 days out and have regrets at the moment due to hernia pain and incredible lack of energy and feeling like I will faint every 25 minutes I was in ER on day 11 for dehydration I can't get down enough fluids due to hernia chest pain I am losing weight pretty fast but I don't feel good and fear I may have to extend my time off from work -- I am sooo slow at doing everything these days which is the complete opposite of my pre op days; I'm 31 yrs old but feel so much older I'm cold tired and depressed as well but hoping the sleeve helps me sustain long term weight loss and I'm able to eat without chest pain in the future Hw in 2009: 293 Hw in 2013: around 260 Surg date dec12: around 236 Current weight: probably around 215 or less due to lack of nutrients & solids -- will verify soon -- I weighed 218 day 13 post op

----- Thanks Dr. I do have pics and they kind of freak me out but at the same time glad I have some visuals. I also read that a repair doesn't guarantee the hernia won't return. A little scary to me too cause I really don't want to go through another repair and painful recovery ordeal in the future. I can't stress about that now cause my focus has to be on improving. I'll try my best to get fluids and Protein in but it is a slow process for me and I don't seem to be feeling more relief each day ... Same level of pressure and pain. I just feel incredibly weak and lethargic these days which is very much the opposite of how my life was pre op. A bit depressing but I know it should get better. Thanks for the support everyone! Good luck on your WLS journey.

---- My understanding is that it can be possible to view in the endoscopy but mine was done 3 months prior to my surg date so not sure how visible it was at that time or if it even existed then but maybe Dr. ATK can provide us with some expertise on that... My surgeon told my mom he was surprised to find mine during surgery cause everything looked fine during nasal endoscopy Never had any hernia symptoms (ie: heartburn, shortness of breath, abdominal pain) prior to surgery so it's all very much a shock to me although I did read that hernias are a side effect of obesity which I do fit the bill for but I never experienced anything painful even tho I took spin classes 2-4 times a week and walked 2-3 times a week in the gym prior to my VSG... The hernia repair recovery is such a challenge for me... So much pressure and pulsing even 16 days out; I can't get in enough liquids cause it hurts my chest and I end up exhausted throughout the day. I feel like I will end up in ER again for dehydration but I reeeeeeally don't want that. I just crave energy and normal sipping with no chest pain. I'm hopeful it will get better soon

    Sleep Study Requirement?

--They monitored my oxygen with the same attention even with a negative test result Glad to hear you are ok post op

    Sleep Study Requirement?

Interesting cause my bar. Surgeon didn't require it or maybe it was my insurance that didn't require it... Turned out I was negative for sleep apnea I'm 16 days post op today and feeling weak but hoping all gets better soon

--- I don't remember the nasal endosc. being 10 minutes .. I was fully awake and what I recall is that it was no more than 35 maybe 40 seconds in one nostril with dr N. you can call and speak to the staff to confirm the length of time ... It is quite uncomfortable and I had discomfort in my nostril & throat for the next couple days ... It didn't hurt to eat or drink tho. Make sure they numb up your nostrils real well with the nasty spray so the tube can slide down easily and be sure to hold the nurses hand for a better experience And to prevent you from the urge of pushing the docs hand away. You may have a hard time breathing during the process like me but you'll survive it Thanks for the iPhone app info -- medxcom is a great tool. I was able to connect with Joan the PA today and she replied promptly and competently. She put me at great ease with my concerns regarding low energy & hernia pain at 16 days post op.

    Flintstones with Iron? Multiviamin?

I look forward to my vitamins because they are really the only things that don't cause much hernia chest pain and actually taste good to me. Currently only cleared to take B12, calcium and multis -- soon will add d3, biotin and b complex The adora chocolate Calicum disks are a real treat 2x a day -- picked them up at vitamin shoppe. Flintstones complete chews are cheapest on amazon (two 150ct bottles for $26 total and I can share them with my 8yr old niece when she sleeps over)

    Debating sugery

-- you look so slim in your avatar!!! I'm 31 and had VSG on dec12-- 16 days out! Had hernia repair work done and still in quite a bit of discomfort... Hard to get liquids and Protein in and feeling super weak the past week even was in ER on day 11 Sorry to digress but for packing keep it simple: Slippers if you don't like the grip socks Change of clothes when you leave Undies They give you gas meds, soap, toothbrush etc Phone and charger I was in too much pain to read a good book so I just watched tv and moaned and groaned during my 2 night stay
  13. I dream about food too and get sad thinking about how I may not be able to tolerate my faves for a long while I'm 16 days post op and feeling super weak --- hard to get in fluids and Protein due to hernia pain in chest and was in the ER on day 11 due to dehydration I'm 31 and 5'7" --- surgery weight was around 236 and current weight around 217
  14. sandisleeve

    Just not feeling good!

---I think baby food is great blended with plain fage Greek yogurt and gnc vanilla rtd with vanilla cinnamon and nutmeg ...not sure what brand you are using but beechnut & Gerber are great ... I've used pear and bananas will try apples and guava soon
  15. I too feel like weightloss is too fast considering I didn't start off awfully high Sw was around 236-7 and currently around 217 at 16 days post op My personal goal is to maintain in the low to mid 160s and I fear I'll surpass that in no time if I can't get in enough nutrients with this hernia issue I don't want to look sickly -- I have a large frame at 5'7"
  16. -- I'm 16 days post op and still feel weak and struggling with Protein and water intake I made a trip to ER on day 11 cause I felt like I would pass out -- got very very very lightheaded I spent most of the evening in ER that day and felt great when I left but still struggle with liquids due to constant hernia repair pain & pressure in my chest area I'm supposed to return to work on jan 6 but if I feel as weak as I do now then there is no way; even tho I have an office job it requires quite a bit of walking especially at the start of each semester Hope you stay feeling better -- I really despise the isopure zero clear drinks but trying to force them down
  17. I'm #FROZEN like the new Disney movie all the time!!!! I used to be the biggest sweater before VSG --- pouring bullets out of the shower and 10 minutes into spin class .... Will be interesting to find out how much I'm able to sweat when I start spinning again Post op day 16 for me

    Help! Protein is killing me!

I tried Isopure zero straight and yuck!!! So far only tried coconut flavor and horrible aftertaste!! I will try to cut the isopure apple melon flavor with Water soon cause I'm desperate for Protein ... My NUT mad PA are on my case and claim it is the sole reason why I don't have energy at 16 days post op I like costco premier chocolate mixed with decaf coffee even tho I'm not a coffee drinker it tastes better to me that way ... I hear some folks mix premier with sf ice cream but my NUT hasn't cleared me for Ice cream I prefer GNC lean shake vanilla over the strawberry and I blend it with plain nonfat fage Greek yogurt (extra protein) and banana baby food with some dashes of vanilla extract, nutmeg, cinnamon and ginger!! Very yummy!! But still a slow go for me to get down due to sliding hernia repair I have tried designer whey vanilla mixed with almond milk and that's ok .... Will soon try fit frappe powder by big train; I hear its heaven tasting -- search "Less of Sarah" on YouTube and IG -- she has amazing mixes for fit frappe and has lost over 200 pounds 1 year post VSG

    Can't "eat" enough

--- That's refreshing to know. Are you eating most solid foods at 6 weeks out? I hope I can get most of my protein through food sources eventually cause protein supplements are a drag I know about tea and ice chips counting as liquids thankfully Good luck to you!

Anyone Use Dr. Nusbaum In Nj?

-- Wow! That's cool that you are a newly sleeved physician. What specialty are you in? Glad you are doing well! What's the med app on iPhone? Is it strictly for physician to physician use only? I was never informed about it Happy 10 days out!! I'm 15 days out (sleeved 12.12) and having a rough time getting in enough liquids and Protein due to pulsing hernia pain after I sip anything I have very low energy and the PA, Joan insists that I need to get in my protein and liquids for more energy I am happy with the staff and all seem very highly skilled and knowledgable I really didn't shop around for a surgeon because I needed a doc who was in network & very close to home so dr n fit the bill perfectly. I'm glad it worked out for me & you - i just can't wait until I'm back to my pre op energy levels.. I really miss my spin classes and just being able to run errands and drive without it feeling like I just ran a marathon

    Can't "eat" enough

-- My PA also suggested the whey protein bullets and sunkist bullets for easier protein intake. I may try the sunkist version (25g per bullet) soon It will get better for us with time I'm sure I am just so frustrated with the lack of energy at 15 days post op ... I have so much I want and need to get done but little energy to do it all Prior to surgery I started my days at around 7am and didn't get home until 9 or 10pm with work obligations, running errands and workouts -- I hope I can get back to that level of energy soon I was spinning 2-3x per week and walking/jogging 3-4 times per week ... I miss those days but hopeful they will come back; I'm only 31 and feel like I should have much more energy at this point post op but can't beat myself up cause I did have 2 surgeries at the same time (VSG & hernia repair)

    Can't "eat" enough

-- Yes @ppi (pantoprazole) .. Im required to take 1 per day for 1st 3 months--- sipping/swallowing isn't the problem it's the pain & pulsing/pressure that results in my chest area due to hernia repair after sipping warm/room temp or cool drinks Spoke to the physician assistant today and she wants me to focus on 50g protein and 6 cups Water per day for energy then schedule to see NUT some time next week The powerades & Gatorades seem too sweet to me and even a bit carbonated even tho they may not be ... Even tried propel zero water and same experience I'm going to pray hard on this and hope the struggle passes quickly Thanks to all for support and suggestions! Be well (:
