  1. I have just learned not to be a scale fanatic. It hurts too much to watch that scale go up and down so I will only get on it once a week and sometimes every other week. There are the occasions that I get on it after a good bowel movement (TMI) but that is a rare occasion. I measure how clothes fit and being able to fit into clothes that I've had in my closet for a while. I'm actually getting to a place, where I may need to go shopping. Wasn't expecting that until the fall/winter months, so WOW!

  2. I am a March sleever and kinda feel the same way. I have told myself that I will have a work/gym/family/life balance, so I only go to the gym 2-3 days a week and YES, I have begun to drink Iced soy latte with sugar free carmel. It is my life saver when I want something punchy :)

I'm also working on a grant that has prevented me from concentrating on losing weight, so I'm in coast mode. I don't know...I don't worry about it too much. Clothing sizes have been dropping rapidly and I use that as a good measurement to success.

  3. I actually didn't consider it until a couple of months before attending the information session. Prior to, I had heard that many people actually hated people that got the surgery because they thought it was a cheat and they thought that it was for extremely obese people.

Before I dove in, I had tried at least 2-3 diets and they worked only to have regained it back. I knew that I didn't have the willpower to prevent me from overeating. That was half the battle. Now the only other conscious battle (the other half) is in keeping the carbs in perspective.

I encourage people to do them and not worry about the naysayers. They don't live in our skins!

  4. I can't believe they said that to you!!! That sounds like a discrimination case. Wow!

I am currently a Certified Medical Assistant. I did really well in collage and graduated with honors. When I went to extern, I fell in love with helping people more than ever. After graduation, I knew I would get a job right away. I went to several wonderful interviews. But No one ever called me back. During my last interview I had the interviewer tell me that I had all the qualifications for the job, that I would be great for the job, but my weight was an issue. That they wanted a thinner nurse to see their patients. As soon as I got out of her sight, I was in tears. (Can they really say that? Couldn't they come up with a different reason?) I know I am an awesome nurse. I love people. I love making people feel good. And most of all I have the knowledge to take care of people to make them feel better.

Maybe once I have my surgery, someone will hire the skinner me. Because I worked really hard and love what I am.

  5. My dream job is to be recognized for my raw gift and talents and be called in as the person needed to make business truly work. My kids call me "priceline the negotiator" ha! I love what I am doing right now, even with the highs and lows that come with it. Some of the obstacles are challenging and you win some and you lose some...I happen to like that!

I am a program manager. I help companies/agencies develop training goals or business goals and align the right resources to meet their plans and look for a win-win for all involved. I am a champion for making everyone happy and pensive about getting stellar results through the work provided and the processes. I AM still looking for that one role that makes me feel like 'I have arrived' but I'm sure it's right around the corner.

  6. I agree with Bob, it's so debilitating if you 'touch it with your mind' and it could be compacted wasted that needs to be released, muscle growth, lack of enough Water, or simply in need of a shower (Ha!). Hang in there an the scale will move, BUT, you have got to get to a healthier reliance of the scale. Your clothes tell a much greater story.

    Good luck!

I'm so glad you posted this, I'm in the same boat and it stinks! I'm only 2 weeks out, I thought this was the honeymoon phase! I lost 14 my first week, plus my 6lbs pre-op for a total of 20lbs and then I stalled around day 8, then today I gained 2lbs!!!!!!!! I have no idea how, I am following all my Dr's instructions exactly, getting all my Protein, all my Water and working out! I don't get it and it's very upsetting!

As I said above, just be patient. It happens. Especially at the beginning. Your body is still healing and getting use to its new routine.

Also, dont weight yourself every day. Especially if it upsets you when you see or dont see a change. I went from 201lbs to 205 and then back down to 199 in a week. Between waste, fluids and muscle growth there will always be fluctuations up and down.

  7. This is good news as well!

    Gooood afternoon everyone!

Good news about Debradebra, yeah? So good to hear. Now to hear about the surgery recover with the same positive news when she's up to sharing.

I got some good news this morning myself - appears that the best thing I could have done for the cirrhosis was to have the sleeve surgery and they expect that I might be able to have a full recovery of the precious little darling. So now this surgery has been good for me in two very important medical ways - the type 2 diabetes and the potential for liver repair.

As for our next get together...I had to pull up a map to see where some of these places were that Marybeth mentioned. To get as close as midway between, Fridley or New Brighton appear to be closest to halfway-ish for most of us. I see Chinese, Thai, American, Mexican, etc...quite a selection. Any non-starters we should be aware of? Once we can eliminate, I'll put together a short list of non-fast food places to consider and we can make a selection. How's that sound?

  8. Debra" glad to know that it may be calcifications and hope you can come out to meet with us next time. We had a good time over the little bit of food that we can eat :). We shared our experiences, helped mbrinmn with her questions, and some shared their pet photos....just good conversation all around.

I don't know who's scheduling our next meeting, but stay toned for more mn support into and see all of you next month!!!

  9. I had my gallbladder removed and started slowly having bowel issues. I was told it was because I was/am lactose intolerant. I don't carry the enzyme to prevent attacks with dairy products. Once I got sleeved, I don't have those problems because I have cut out some of those gas producing products. I now mix lactose soy in my Protein drink, eat babybel cheese, and other things so as not to have an episode.

Hopefully, things will change for you too!
