    Feeling Wimpy

I am peri menopausal and there are days when I just need more food and other days when I don't. I have been problematic free since coming home from surgery. My scale is not moving a lot these days and I don't know if it is the stall or my peri. My body operates best when I'm eating 800-900 per day. I have more energy and feel more alive. I say, work with your doctor and nutritionist because everyone is different in how much they can consume. Good luck to you and I hope you get your energy back soon!
  4. It is quite confusing to not count calories when the sites like fitness pal and spark people calculate your calories then your doc says not to count. Then on top of that people on this site talk about how many calories they consume in each stage. Whew! I must say that I have done the same thing by eating too many calories while consuming Protein first and no bread. What it sounds like to me is that you are eating over a longer period of time. It is called grazing which is a habit as well. It is easy to eat more calories that way, so get back to plan and eat Breakfast, lunch, and dinner in 30 minutes. Snack only 2-3 times per day with protein and drink your Water. Make a commitment with yourself that whatever meal you eat, you will sit down and eat for 30 minutes only. Good luck!
  5. Headed out to the gym tonight to get my one-hour in with weights. Now since I am six-weeks out, I can begin the slow migration to weight lifting, and I do mean slow with 10 pound weights first. Nice and easy, slow and smooth.

      Woot woot, you go girl!!!

  6. Nervously stepped on the scale this morning and yep...I gained 4 lbs. I knew it would be something because of the conference, so me and the hubby went to the gym, came home and took a d_ _ _ and I took a shower and afterwards the scale said I lost 2 pounds. This goes to show you that once you return to our new normalcy, the weight will slide back off. No real worries~

Good for you. As long as we have the will power to get back on the wagon when we fall off, we'll be ok...

I got on the scale today and lost another 3lbs??? Normalsy is what we need???

  7. So paranoid about getting on the scale after eating well at a conference. Maybe I will hold off until I can put in some gym time this weekend-still don't know if that will tame the nerves...eeek!

    Shiritaki Noodles?

    They are soooo NASTY!!!
  9. The food is sooo good!!! I'm learning that I still have bigidest because I was filling my plate up and trying to eat it all yet only being able to eat a corner. How wasteful.

I almost had an episode yesterday when I ate some beef medallion smothered in a mushroom sauce. I chewed soo much and still it got stuck. Had to excuse myself and go to the bathroom where I was sounding like a beached whale, burping crazy and loud and jogging in place to help it to go down or just move. Goodness gracious alive!!!!

Ok then I must confess, I ate a bag of chips today. I chewed well and it took most of the day to get it down. Lesson learned.

Yeah I have not had any success with beef or hamberger except I had made Shepard's pie the other day and that I was OK with? Well hope your doing OK today!

  10. Headed out for a few days where uncontrolled eating is a norm. I am hoping that I do enough walking to lose any weight that I gain and that I make great food choices while there.

      pupichupi

Have a good time, I hope you get a lot of good walking in too!!! You know what you can and can't eat, just follow your guides. You have the tools that are going to help you now to not eat uncontrollable!!!

    Do any of you...

Do which part? Lose weight or maintain it? Yes, before I got the surgery my mind was asking the same thing, however; I fought it by saying that I can and have lost weight on my own (87lbs of it) but the maintaining part fades me. The lack of self control is hard for me. I determined that something needs to give and that something was me giving in to something that will prevent me from overeating, eating too fast and only inhaling my food, and something that will prevent me to yo-yo like I was doing. I gave into my life saving tool. My new lover - 'Baby Tummy'
  12. Stick with the doctor's plan. Most doctors don't like telling you how many calories to consume per day because they want you to focus on Protein, however, I have noticed that when I consume a bit more, around 800-900 calories per day, I will lose weight. I'm almost 6 weeks out. Today, I had two string cheese sticks for breakfast, a whopping 15oz can of Progresso Beef Barley Soup for lunch. I will probably eat another string cheese for a snack and have broccoli and beef or a Protein shake for dinner, then an Atkins bar for a snack. I also, dibble and dabble in low calorie/no sugar/chips (Blue Chips) sometimes too. It's really all about your protein at this stage. Good luck and don't fret about it.
  13. The boss wants me to prepare a justification document for the executives before I leave for a conference tomorrow!!! I hate it when she does this, as if this is the first time of her hearing this. This kind of stress makes me want to eat like I used to. Help!?

Hang in there Blade. Is she one of those bosses that can't stand to have you miss a day because she'd be lost without you? Just think of it as job security. You must do good work because she didn't pass it off on someone else. And just think tomorrow you'll be away from the office, away from the boss and enjoying some (hopefully) downtime. Hope the conference is interesting. Be safe,,,eat safe.

    Hardest thing for you?

If you can, take a magnesium supplement daily.

    Hardest thing for you?

Committing to exercise on a weekly basis. At one point in my life I would hit the gym like a pro and it burned me out. I hate routine! Begrudgingly, I put my work out clothes on and either do the gazelle in the house for 15-20 minutes and when the weather is nice outside I will take a long walk (I live in MN so the weather is predictable thru May). Some days/weeks are hit and miss.

    difficult getting to goal weight

I agree, I have started taking a few fries from my kids. Now I am not a drive thru eater, so I don't think I will go out of my way to go get fries, but I will get some from my kids and that is the start of something bad. With every diet/plan, we humans, because we are exceptionally smart, can find loop holes in cheating the plan. We now know that if we chew up food to the consistency of mush we can stomach anything. So, here goes fries, fried stuff, and for some, even bread. We begin to sample sweets and if it doesn't make us feel bad, then we will begin to add different kinds, take bigger bites or eat a whole slice. We know that we can space out our meals and Snacks to eat more (graze). PLUS, when we reach a great achievement like you have (CONGRATS) our minds begin to play tricks on us, telling us that we have made it and you can now go back to doing what you did pre surgery. I think it is good that you are freer to sample, just don't let it be the boss of you!

No bm since surg last thurday

That's normal maybe even up to 2 weeks. It will happen just nothing really to form on liquids.
  19. I believe that my body no longer wants 400-500 calories per day. WHY? Because when I eat 800+ calories and choose more of a variety like sweet potatoes, 1 cup chili, and always keep protein first to get my 60-70 grams in...I lose weight. My body is like saying, enough with crumbs and feed me!

    Week 5 Questions

I am 5 weeks out from Wednesday as well. I use SparkPeople to track my food to ensure that I am getting enough Protein. I actually said 'wow' on the rice krispies/wheat bread and somewhat the Peanut Butter because my doctor doesn't want me to eat high carb anything. The peanut butter is ok if it is all natural but only 1 tablespoon. I believe you are loading up on carbs instead of protein and we should be eating protein first at each meal. I hope you find your right solution!

    So much gas

It happens and then it goes away and then it happens again. I think I have it when I eat a bit too fast. Just be conscious of how you are chewing and swallowing...but...sometimes it just happens. I do the same thing. I was eating some cooked salmon the other night and put some light Miracle Whip on it to make sure it was moist and after about 2 baby spoon bites, I was burping and miserable and had to walk and have my back rubbed/patted to help it up. I also too a GasX and that didn't help. So I decided that it just may be the fish and I need to cut back on fish for a while. Now all is good. I have heard that after about 3-5 months, the noises and sounds will get quieter. Let's hope so, huh!

    2-year followup... humiliating

I know that you are going through a lot of pain and frustration with yourself and I hope that you can reset your pouch and your mind, but this is good to hear for us newbies. Just to know that you can go back to bad habits once you know how to do it is scary. I sometimes wonder why they even allow 'crackers' during the soft solid stage too. I went out to find some crackers that had low everything (carbs, cholesterol, fat, no sugar, calories, etc.) and tore that small bag apart within 3 days. That can't be good! It seems to set you up for failure early in the process. Even though I didn't gain any weight by doing that, I know what it is to begin the cycle of eating carbs is all about and I don't want that to happen to me after all that I have gone through. Good luck and stay focused on you!
