  1. I would have no qualms either. My little 5 year old is 72 pounds. She eats healthy and is very conscience of her eating choices. She is not as active as she wants to be because she has bad asthma and is always on steroids. Additionally obesity is just in her DNA.

My husband and I have already decided that if she continues on this trajectory then we will consider weight loss surgery when she is of age. We are hoping for the best but why make her suffer at such a young age. By that point my husband and I will be far out post op and will know the ramifications of this surgery enough to make the right choice.

As far as her having surgery at such a young age well children bounce back way better than adults. I had open heart surgery at age 11 in June of that year and was at cheerleading camp at the end of July.

I hope for the best for her and wish you the best of luck in making your decision.

  2. So sorry for your loss. In my father's last days this summer. He began to plan his funeral including picking out his suit and tie and having us dry clean it. He also had us re-sole his shoes because he wanted a full open casket with glass over his body. He wore a suit and looked his best every day of us his life. He was not going out less than perfect. At the funeral home people

We're coming in off the street to see this man.

  3. My apologies, looking back at my post I came off rude. I guess it has to do with my thinking of the whole process. When I decided to go the surgery route, I made the decision I was going to completely let go of all the bad habits that got me to where I was. Throughout the process, between the seminars and other group settings so many people are so worried about what they wont be able to eat or drink anymore. I made the decision I was not going to do that. My focus was going to be on where I wanted to go, not where I came from or what I was leaving behind. With that said, everyone is different. And while my way of thinking may be good to some, it may not be good for others. So once again, my apologies for coming off rudely.

I'm with you. I totally told myself certain things would forever be forbidden although I know they are not. But I do not want to slide back into drinking real non diet cokes which I know put a lit of weight on me.

  4. I am very sorry you have both experienced Hair loss. I'm can tell that was upsetting and a traumatic experience. I stated in my original post that I have thick, curly hair and that it's quite possible it could be thinning and I just haven't noticed yet. The veteran I spoke to was a year out and had not experienced hair loss or thinning. Prior to surgery, she did not use chemicals in her hair. After surgery she of course took in the necessary Protein and supplements which I'm sure was helpful to her continued Hair growth. Everyone is different. It's not reasonable to say everyone is going to lose hair, nor is it reasonable to say everyone who doesn't use chemicals in their hair won't. Again, we are all different. I simply shared my experiences and those of a woman I spoke with.

Agreed. I was simply stating that I had worked very hard before surgery to get my hair healthy by not using chemicals. I am African American I knows many experiences of other African Americans losing hair from their scalp from

Relaxers and hair color. I have experienced significant hair growth since my surgery which may or may not last. We will see. But everyone is different. I know some who have and some who have not.
