Thunderhead27 got a reaction from VSGAnn2014 in Seventy & having sleeve surgery
I was sleeved 1 month before I turned 70. The operation was a piece of cake for me.. Almost no pain. And I have the lowest pain threshold ever. I'm out almost 6 months and have lost 80 lbs. Adjusting to a new way of eating is an on going process. I am also taking more meds than before because I need Vitamins and supplements. Getting in enough Protein and Fluid every day can be a challenge but it does get easier. I fill up quickly when I eat but I do feel hungry between meals. It has really been a miracle for me. I can do so many things I couldn't do before. Just going to the gym and showering and changing with no difficulty is worth it alone. I'm sure you've been through many, many medical tests to be sure you are a good candidate. I say go for it. It will improve your life Immensely . ML

I am going to jump in here because I am 69 . I have my surgery on Nov. 4th and will be 70 in a month. How does all this work for we more mature folks?

Thunderhead27 reacted to DestinClair1983 in Pain Threshold
After surgery, they had me on a morphine PCA pump, which did not relieve my pain, it just made me sleepy. So they gave me toradol, and changed my PCA pump to dilaudid and that certainly did the trick.

I am 69 and will be 70 a month after surgery. My date is November4th. It's so great to read about others in this age group that have undertaken this adventure.

Thunderhead27 got a reaction from lswelk in Why am I Doing This? poster
I am making myself a poster with pictures of all the reasons I am going to get the surgery. The plan is to have it to look at if/when I become discouraged. It will also be a nice visual for those who want to know why I'm doing this. In fact I may copy it and post it on my FB page. Please feel free to do the same. Maybe we can share them at some point.

Thunderhead27 reacted to mokee in Age and surgery
I had surgery Nov 2012, 2 days after my 66th birthday. I am down 85 lbs. what a treat it is to go shopping in the regular sizes. So many choices now. A lot of knee and back pain are almost non existent. I'm so glad I did this. Diabetes is under control with a lot less insulin. A1C was just 6.2 the other day and I was so happy. Never to late to start your life over.

Thunderhead27 reacted to ShariM735 in Age and surgery
I'm 68. Had surgery July 22. Started at 249 and down to 193. I've had knee replacement on both knees, but my hip and back pain had gotten pretty bad. I still have 50 lbs. to lose, but I feel better than I have in 30 years. The pain level is lower than I ever expected!
Wishing you good luck on your journey. It is so worth it.

I turned 67 in Aug of this year, and just got surgery date of Nov 4th. Looking forward to dropping weight so I can get some relief on my knees and hopefully be more active again like I was most of my life. Just excited for a new life.

Good morning and thank you for the personal email. I did get your number and will give you a call. When is a good time for you? I am in Eastern time and don't want to call you at 0-dark-30 your time!
I am really happy to find you, someone my own age, who has had a vertical sleeve gastrectomy so recently.
