    Food

Most docs and nutritionists would say it's way to early for ground flax! Some even have you on clear liquids at two days out. This too shall pass is really how you need to look at it. In a month it will all be over, you can do anything for two weeks, those kinds of mantras will help a lot! Do experiment with different shakes... I never found a ready to drink I liked. It was all about mixing my own. Try with Water, milk, almond milk, coconut water or milk... As long as these are allowed in your plan. Nashua Nutrition sells any Protein powder they carry in a single serving sample size. Google for their website. I second the world according to egg face website too! Lots of protein shake receipes on there. Some sites have protein hot chocolate too, I liked that! Can't remember what site I got them from, maybe bariatric nutrition? You can do this. Just power through.

    Does anyone dance for exercise?

I can't imagine it would be any problem once you are cleared by your doc for exercise. I run marathons and it hasn't shaken anything loose, nor has any of the yoga I've done!
  3. Yeah I did that. food funerals we call them here, do a search and you will find many a post about them. There are mixed opinions on them and whether they are a sign you aren't ready psychologically. But I admit to doing them--I didn't binge or anything, I had enough therapy to have a better relationship with food than that by then. But I went to some restaurants and sampled. Didn't seem to have any impact on my progress long term. I lost all my weight and have maintained well for a year and a half now.

    Food

You aren't gonna like my answer... Suck it up and deal in the short term for long term gain (or loss LOL). That said, there are SOOOO many brands and flavors keep trying till you find ones you like. I don't like some of the more popular ones (Premier, syntax nectar, isopure) but kept looking till I found ones I did--syntax matrix, Quest, chike
  5. I will add the other side, I count net carbs. I've done just fine with that. But that said, that's typically only a thing with processed foods and I don't eat a lot of those in general. Basically quest products and some low carb tortillas I use and I don't use the tortillas often.
  6. This thread might be good reading for you: http://bariatricpal.com/index.php?/topic/368606-I-feel-like-my-partner-isn%27t-even-trying-to-eat-better I will say basically what I said there... You can only control yourself. You can't change him. He has to want the change. Dating is a time to assess whether someone is a match. If he's not a match, move along. If he's a match but you don't see eye to eye on this one thing keep him but don't complain or try to change him. This is your journey not his. Find support other places if it's not him. But I do think you can support w choice without agreeing with it. My husband (of 22 years) and I do it all the time. We agree more than we disagree, but we disagree too. All humans do.
  7. Comfort is both psychological and physical. If it makes her feel good it may be worth the discomfort (high heels anyone?)
  8. I dunno I think one should wear what makes them happy and comfortable. As long as it's covering up the essentials. As for the girl in the pic I don't know that she's going out in public dressed like that. She's taking a pic for the site to show what a body that size looks like, the whole point of the site. I applaud her for her confidence and the guts it takes to post that picture. I didn't have that. Still don't really. Oh and my guess is the size 4 was a typo for 14 Since she also says size L
  9. Cold cuts/thin slices cheese roll ups w/pickle or avocado in the middle. Grilled or cold. Celery w Peanut Butter or cream cheese. Cucumber w goat cheese or laughing cow cheese Beef or turkey jerkey No sugar added Greek yogurt (Damon light and fit, oikos triple zero, etc) Pre cooked frozen shrimp take and let thaw and use a touch of cocktail sauce Protein mug cake (search here for recipes) Berries w plain Greek yogurt Veggies w dip made w plain Greek yogurt mixed w hidden valley ranch powder/mix
  10. About three months out I started quest bars, could eat a half maybe or a third.

    Triathlon training starts today!

    Woot woot!! WTG
  12. I think that's not a bad idea. I didn't have one either, just a vague idea of how I felt/looked at a certain weight and hoped to get somewhere near there. My doc never set one for me outside of the "most people lose about 60-70% of their excess body weight" and that he considers that a success. I lost more than 100% in that I a firmly in the middle of the normal range for my height.

Grilling at the beach....what to eat?

Wonderful ideas here!!! Grilling is sooooo WLS friendly and just healthy in general!!!! meat and veggies of any variety! Salads and slaws.
  14. Slowly and constantly. Always have a Water bottle with you. Try adding flavoring (crystal light, NUUN for electrolytes, mio). Try different temperatures (hot herbal tea, room temp, ice). I could only do bottled water not tap (we have wonderful well water) or even filtered tap, it felt too dense to me in my stomach. See if your doc allows you to count other liquids like Protein shakes and milk. Keep sip sip sipping!
  15. It's a good starting point, but certainly doesn't tell anyone's whole story. And I do suggest you reserve judgement till you get there. You might surprise yourself and find you way easily to 104 and actually like it. I never thought I'd want to be below 150.
  16. I think it's fine and realistic to set your weight goal at a number that's still considered "overweight." I think depending on body type and muscle mass the BMI can indeed be misleading. BUT... Be careful some of the comments on here feel borderline skinny shaming to someone in my boat. I didn't set a goal weight but in the back of my head I thought I would be completely content at 165 (a weight I had been at several points in my adult life) and thrilled to get to 155 (which I had achieved once as an adult). I always thought of myself as a curvy and "strong" body type--large frame and all. Lo and behold my body had different ideas! I blew past both those goals and easily settled at 135. I do have an athletic body type, lots of great yoga muscles, but I am not the large frame, broad person I thought I was! That fingers around the wrist thing? Not accurate! Wrists and fingers lose weight too and my fingers which could not wrap all the way around my wrist now overlap. I'm not skin and bones (though yea you can see my hip bones and my ribs if I turn a certain way) but I am athletic and fit. I have 17% body fat and now that I've had skin removal surgery I almost have a six pack (my teen son calls it a four pack). All I am saying is really you might be surprised. It's all well and good to have an idea of a goal. But don't assume you will be "skin and bones" below a certain weight. Don't guess what your body will do, look like or feel like until you get there. Oh and I'm curvy too! Even before my implants when I rolled my "rock filled sock" boobs up into a bra I was a 32DD/DDD. Same size now but much perkier (less skin more under the skin!) For comparison I am 5'6" (I lost almost a full inch of padding from the bottoms of my feet if you can believe it! I was close to 5'7" before).

    Withdrawals [emoji15]

Ask your doctor about this pain. Seems that two weeks out the pain shouldn't be at an intolerable level.

    Triathlon training starts today!

I agree don't skip the 16 miler, you need it to build the endurance. Can you move the day of the long run and sub the sprint Tri for one of the shorter runs that week? That's what I try to do when I have a Tri or an obstacle run or a race during a training cycle.

    Do certain comments bother you?

Nope I love those comments! Honestly that's one thing I miss being in maintenance so I love it when I see someone I haven't seen in a few years. But that doesn't mean you have to like them, your experience is your own. But if it helps, I am sure the sentiment behind the comments is kind and benevolent. They aren't trying to be malicious
  20. With respect and props to all the replies... The only person you can control is you. The only person who has to live your life is you. Is his behavior a deal breaker for you? If it is, move along. If it isn't, deal with it and don't complain. Dating is a time to assess whether he's the one. If your "one" supports you in a particular way, then he isn't it. If your "one" is wonderful in many ways but his eating style challenges you, then keep him. But don't expect him to change. He is who he is. For me, I'm personally in the why the heck should my husband and kids change? They are healthy and fit. We have eliminated a few bad eating habits from the house--mostly soda, but my son still has one or two a week when he's out--more fresh foods and less processed just because that's what I cook. But I prepare potatoes and rice and Pasta and other things I don't eat. But if the support in the form of eating change is important to you, that's your right! You just need to factor that into your choice of partner. Chose one that wants to support you in that way.

Actually opiates are sedating, but they also have an impact on the dopamine system, so they have stimulant qualities as well. A lot of people get energy from opiates, especially depressed people. Actually, some opiates have been used as anti-depressants. They are not like alcohol:downers because the primary neurotransmitter targeted (GABA) is different, but opiates can cause sedation, euphoria and other effects but differently than alcohol or benzodiazepines. I mean, I guess people call them downers sometimes, but it isn't very scientific. It is possibly to get withdrawal symptoms after 2-3 weeks of continuous use. Depression can rebound after stopping opiates. Sent from my iPhone using the BariatricPal App Well they are CNS depressants. They do have the psychotropic effects you describe through the dopamine channels, but "uppers" vs "downers" usually refer to effects on the central nervous system. We don't disagree on their effects, just the terminology of uppers/downers. Yes the brain chemistry is different than with alcohol and benzodiazepines. Anyhow, to the OP definitely talk to your doctor. You really shouldn't need the narcotic pain relief at this point, there are alternatives that don't have the same potential for problems.
  22. Just keep trying different brands, there are so so so many and we all have different tastes. I can't stand the ones most people love. For me it's all about syntax matrix and Quest. There are a couple other random non mainstream brands I like but those are my big two. Nashua Nutrition (Google for their website) will sell you a sample of any brand/flavor they carry for $1. Try a ton of brands and flavors till you find one you like. I also like fit frappe chai and the chike brand coffee ones if you can have caffeine. I also mix a scoop of vanilla matrix with Starbucks via for an "iced latte"

    Quest Bar

Re read the whole thread, that is discussed up thread. Many people count net carbs, as in take the total carbs (my Quest bar wrapper here says 26) subtract the Fiber grams as they are "good carbs" (my wrapper says 17) and some subtract the sugar alcohol grams as well because of how they are digested (wrapper says 6g erythritol). So 26-17 = 9 net carbs Or 26-17-6 = 3 net carbs As someone else said unthread her nutritionist doesn't agree with that. Mine does. You need to find out your doctor or nutritionist recommendations on that or if you don't have that option do your own research and form an educated opinion. Oh ok. Thanks so much for explaining. I was scared of getting attacked by people thinking I was being judge-y. Lol. The only way to learn is by asking and I knew nothing of the net carb concept. I'll definitely ask my medical peeps! Thanks again! Anytime!!!

    Withdrawals [emoji15]

Actually both Norco and Percocet are downers. The depress your central nervous system they don't stimulate it. Yes they can have the psychological effect of euphoria and decrease anxiety and depression just like alcohol or pot which are also CNS depressants/downers. Some depression is really common post op, especially in women because of hormone release (estrogen is stored in fat). But PLEASE DO check with your doctor. It's not likely withdrawal (as stated above) but you could be becoming psychologically dependent. Or it could be normal side effects of survey that you are medicating with the Norco, which is a step down the road to becoming psychologically dependent.

    Workouts

Working out is awesome check your doc for their specific requirements and recommendations. I started couch to 5k after a few weeks and now 2.5 years later I'm running my second full marathon this weekend. That said, exercise and working out will do NOTHING for saggy skin except maybe fill it out a bit. It's about genetics, age, number of years you were overweight, how much yo yo dieting you did, etc. After 136lb loss regardless of my running and killer yoga muscles, at age 45 having been overweight much of my life and obese for 18 years only surgery got rid of my excess skin.
