    Let's Play A Game!

One mile = aprox 100 calories, no matter the speed.... if you run it you burn those 100 calories faster but walking it still burns 100 calories. That’s not a lot of calories! Which is why they say you can’t outrun a bad diet.
  2. Definitely possible! I started at 271 and am now right around 140 (go up and down from 135-143)
  3. Yeah, it’s on his doctors plan! Color me shocked! I’d recommend avoiding ice creams until goal! I eat them occasionally now... the halo top mostly... but occasionally the real stuff, but not for the first year!
  4. Yes!!! I still use tiny 1/4-1/2 cup sized Bowls and salad plates daily and I’m four and a half years post op!

    Feeling tired and sleepy

So many things either related to surgery or not! Iron levels, calcium levels (I had parathyroid issues that needed to be resolved, read—removed), thyroid levels... neurological issues. Please see a doctor and come back and share!

    Tonight’s Shrimp Dinner (picture)

I just bought me a spiralizer! I’ve been doing chickpea and edamame pasta though and I love em!

    I hate eating out now!

Many many restaurants don’t even charge a plate fee I eat off my husbands and kids meals all the time! Something else to note... as you lose weight people ask if your food is ok less and less. Because the truth is, slender people eat like we do all the time! It’s not unusual. No one looks at me twice when I don’t eat much now that I’m a size 4, because no one that size can eat the portions they serve.

Sharing knowledge is always appreciated!!! I will have to pull out my number again because now I’m curious, I was saying from memory and that’s always messy... but I know my “good” was very high and that’s what bumped my total cholesterol into the high range! So I think I may have gotten the initials backward (HDL/LDL) But I have done some reading about the types even of “good” and “bad” and it’s definitely not as simple as we’d like to make it out to be

Awww thanks (blush). Keto is too high maintenance for me. I have always done very low carb to low carb and I don’t worry about fat, don’t track it don’t eat low fat versions of things. Yes my triglycerides are low (can’t remember offhand but definitely under 100) and while my total cholesterol is “high” (in the 240’s usually) the ratio is, according to my doc, the best he’s ever seen. My “good” cholesterol (LDL) is 3x my “bad” cholesterol (HDL).

I gosh I don’tdo Keto! Just lower carb. I didn’t do it during the loss phase or now at maintenance. Way to hard to maintain the chemistry of keto... and the fat.

4.5 Months – Eating Too Much?

The amount you can eat will increase for the first six months to a year just from the stomach healing (the stomach relaxes) and the swelling going down. That’s normal progression and not stretching. I believe you will be hard pressed to find someone who didn’t experience that.

I run 25-40 miles per week and do 4-5 hours of intense yoga and have since about 6 months post op. I did it at a very low carb level, so while it’s not for everyone, know it can be done. Your body can adapt to fat burning for exercise instead of carb burning. So @katiebruin has found what works for her but strenuous workouts don’t necessarily mean you NEED the carbs. Pg
  13. Actually constipation is a known side effect— https://www.rxlist.com/prilosec-side-effects-drug-center.htm#overview But I agree on both the insoluble fiber (Metamucil, psyllium husk, etc) AND soluble fiber like Benefiber or the generic equivalent. Lots of water too.

Lap Band to Sleeve Hair Loss

No it’s also about telogen effluvium. The portion of hair that is in the particular stage of growth during the surgery will fall out regardless. It’s an after effect of the anesthesia. Happens to me every time I go under no matter the type of surgery or nutrition. Now nutrition is another cause and some are more susceptible to telogen effluvium than others, so no absolutes. But sadly for some of us it’s not avoidable no matter the vitamins or protein! Here’s a great article explaining it— http://drnichter.com/hair-loss-after-surgery-explained/
  15. Funny story... I delivered a 9lb 8oz baby c section myself and the scar from that is now gone, removed with the skin during my tummy tuck!
  16. Yeah I can’t wear a teeny string variety because I’m almost 50!

Everyone’s plan is different and some don’t limit them at all, so I can’t say for everyone. But for me personally when I was losing I tried to eat less than 30 a day total and most of those came from dairy.
  18. My insurance has very specific requirements, not just the whole documented rashes and such. For the stomach to be covered your pannus has to hang past the pubic bone which mine didn’t. The arms had to hang a certain amount too and they only covered breast reduction and they have to remove a certain amount. So mine wasn’t covered at all. Mine was about $26K for all but I’m in California where everything costs more! We had discussed how to pay for it... taking money from retirement savings or a loan... but in some interesting timing a dear friend passed away and left me personally $30k (he wrote me a check before he passed so it was in addition to what he left us all in his will). I had taken care of him in his final months. He told my husband he wanted me to have enough to buy myself something nice because he knew I never had much money that was all mine as a stay at home mom. I knew he would have approved of how I spent it! If anyone wants to see more of my before/after pic for plastics PM me. I can share a link to the pix my surgeon has on his site. They are NSFW so I don’t want to share them TOO publicly but I will share on a 1:1 basis.
  19. Not bad at all. Usually those people are only a little ways out. I will be three years out in May and here’s my scar. It’s also low enough that a bikini covers it. I used Embrace scar treatment for six weeks.

Be careful and read the label!!! I was surprised how many carbs are in the TJ Cauliflower crust! They add corn flour, corn starch and potato starch! Most of the home made recipies have just cauliflower and cheese, so far lower in carbs
  21. I had plastics and LOVE LOVE LOVE the result! Clothed and not it made a huge difference for me. I considered it both a reward for my hard work and an incentive not to gain weight back (studies show people who have reconstructive plastics are less likely to gain the weight back). I had tummy tuck, brachioplastyc breast lift and augment (never thought I would need to fill em back up considering I’ve been a G+ cup since HS but I did!)

Ummmm YUM! Thanks for sharing! Totally gonna make this this week
  23. I think the sugar/carb cycle is part of it but it’s not all of it. At least not for me. I’m four and a half years out and I allow carbs and sugar in my diet now, but they don’t have the same appeal. I can eat a cookie but stop at one (or...can you believe it, a half!) not because I’m full (at this point I could eat a whole box of cheese its if I wanted) but just because it doesn’t have the hold. Do I like carbs and sugar? Damn straight I do. But not in the same way. Also, it’s really good you are making those changes now and they are a way of life for you because you will be able to eat more than five bites again, for sure. But the habits you are creating now, the new relationship with food/flavors/etc will make it so you don’t do something you regret. And honestly, an occasional indulgence shouldn’t be regretted! That’s the cool “free” feeling! Sometimes, I eat three or four of those cookies! But it’s a choice and not out of control and I don’t regret it the next day! I just don’t make a habit of it.
  24. Yup, I can totally relate to that “free” feeling. In four and a half years out and while I do feel hungry at times—both Head and real hunger—I still have that “free” fake it or leave it feeling.
  25. Four and a half years. There’s a “veterans” folder but honestly there aren’t many of us on here regularly. And those of us on here sorta check in and out.
