You’ve gotten great tips for the water, but just wanted to say yes the full feeling is also swelling from the surgery. Your stomach has been cut open. Like any injury it will swell up!

Are you asking me? I have always eaten 4-6 or so small meals per day because my restriction is right. Examples of a meal during loss phase— Protein shake No sugar added Greek yogurt Roll ups—deli meat w/ultra thin sliced cheese or a laughing cow wedge or a pickle spear or smear of avocado Grilled chicken dipped in mustard (I have six types in my fridge always!) Homemade turkey chili Half a lean burger patty with thin cheese and mustard/mayo Scrambled egg with salsa maybe with cheese, green onions, mushrooms, onions Jerky Cottage or ricotta cheese sometimes with pasta sauce Tuna or chicken salad with mayo, celery or green onions Salad with chicken or other meat and goat cheese and a vinaigrette -

I will let Creek answer for herself but I know our answers are very different. I didn’t add them back until I was at goal and in maintenance. And then it was very gradual. I also stayed very low calorie for the whole loss period before adding calories back and her path has been very different there too. There are many paths to the same goal. I will ask you, though, if you are on an acid reducer like a proton pump inhibitor. Acid can mimic hunger and I felt hungry until I was on the right dose of a proton pump inhibitor. -

During my losing phase I limited all types of carbs and the majority of the carbs in my diet came from dairy which is one source that hasn’t been discussed... I didn’t do any of the types listed for the most part but did do no sugar added Greek yogurt, cheese, milk, etc which are all a source of naturally occurring carbs from the lactose. Now that I am at goal and in maintenance I eat a serving of fruit most days, vegetables (complex carbs) and some whole grains like quinoa and oatmeal. I avoid bread, crackers, cereal, potatoes and wheat pasta for the most part still. I Can’t eat rice. I do have sweets on occasion in moderation. I had a cookie tonight! -

My guess is it’s likely. They know how addictive smoking is. If you’ve come all this way, why start smoking again? It’s awful for the healing process. -
And a week stall is nothing. I wouldn’t worry for three weeks or so. Then talk to your doctor or nutritionist.

Everyone’s goals are different, different surgeons have different plans! So it sounds like you are meeting YOUR goals. So... you either stay the course or shake things up. You can try increasing your calories as was suggested. You can try tweaking your macros since you have that info. You can stay the course. You will most likely start losing again no matter which of these things you do. Stalls and plateaus happen. Even small gains especially around that time of the month when you may retain water. Did you have some high sodium days? You mention the chips. Salt will make you retain water.

I told my husband to go to work. My mother in law dropped me off. My husband came and visited me that evening and picked me up the next day. As some have said they really want a responsible adult to pick you up, but if you are really against it you can always sign out against medical advise. They can’t require it. -
Surgeon Follow Ups for Life?

Yearly for me forever! Lab work to make sure vitamin levels are up to snuff. Support if I regain or want diet advice. My surgiversary is December so I’ve met my max out of pocket by then most years anyhow so whatever. Even if I hadn’t it’s a $20 copay. Totally worth it for the resources available to me. I had the sleeve and no complications and have been at a normal BMI for going on four years (five since surgery) -

You’ve gotten two strategies—stay the course and increase your calories. The truth is both can work. We are all different so different things work for us. For either of those to work you really need to assess where you are at. Are you tracking? What’s your macro (protein/fat/carb) ratio? How much fiber are you getting? Sugar? Refined/processed foods versus Whole Foods? Fluids? All those matter in addition to calories. If you track all those try tweaking them and seeing where that gets you. Another idea—shake up your exercise routine. Add some, change the cardio vs strength training. For the record, I ate very low calorie and never had an issue with energy (trained for an ran my first half marathon at 8 months post op on about 500 calories a day). And my maintenance level is quite high so it didn’t wreck my metabolism. So for some of us it works just fine.

Not looking for a fight or drama, looking for a rational exchange of information. I was hoping that’s what you were doing too when you send those links and said there were lots of independent studies. But it seems now you just want to hurl insults. Too bad. I honestly would love to hear any independent studies. I can’t find any. I’m just sharing an opinion with the poster as well. And sharing some science to support it so the poster can make informed choices.

I didn’t say not to give suggestions. I said I like to give information not JUST suggestions. I’m giving people information they need to make informed decisions. You are giving MISinformation (all Protein powders are sketchy; most surgeons recommend getting off them; links to misleading studies funded by the product they are studying) And I’m waiting for you to post your independent studies.

But when they say it’s 30 and someone is counting it as 30 and not getting their recommended protein it can be dangerous and is unethical snake oil.

And yes there are a lot of sketchy protein powders and we should be quite picky about the ones we use! But not all are sketchy. You need to make educated choices about which you use. And not all doctors recommend leaving them behind. Your generalizations are inaccurate. I never told anyone to not take Genepro. I let grown ups make their own choices. I do suggest they have all the information though and when people ask for ideas and recommendation I like to give information not just suggestions.

That’s frightening considering blood protein measures a problem with the liver or kidneys not adequate dietary protein. You don’t want protein to be high in the blood.

A. That study was done by and paid for by the company that manufactures Genepro. We call that if the industry a conflict of interest. B. Serum (blood) levels of protein do not show that dietary protein is adequate. There is no blood test that shows that. Protein in the blood is a measure of liver and kidney function.

Quest unflavored is my jam. Genepro is quite controversial. Do your homework and make an informed choice before trying it.

Oh also for the record, those quest chips taste like cardboard to me! Try nuts or jerky or another whole food choice! And I applaud AshAsh. I think it’s important to speak up when we find advise we feel is questionable/dangerous.

Check with your surgeon and nutritionist and see what your plan is. For me, even now at almost five year out I couldn’t possibly meet my protein and fiber and everything else goals without snacks. Earlier out it was even more important for me. For the record I was pre diabetic before surgery and lost way beyond my 100% excess weight in a year.

Those have quite a few carbs as well, but maybe you count net carbs? Anyway the OP is on liquids and puréed foods do not quite there yet—
