  1. Im with you on the privacy thing Karen. I've been on a diet for a few months now and everyone at work is used to it, I took a week off work, called in with the flu so no one would try to stop by and see me. I am 1 week post op and I feel great and am going back to work tomorrow. People can watch how I eat and they will see how I lose weight. The surgery is none of their business. If you have to tell them you had surgery than go with the hiatal hernia and ulcer. They should all understand that. Good luck and happy weight loss. Janet
  2. Have you gotten your date yet? When is it? Let us know so we can follow you too.
  3. Hi Melinda, I was in Tupelo over the Christmas Holidays. Lovely town, Congratulations on getting your surgery date. I didn't think the pre-op diet was hard either but I didn't want to quit eating all of my favorite foods. I am 1 week post op and doing pretty good save for the one sore incision spot on my stomach. Each day is a significant improvement and I will be going back to work tomorrow. The surgery itself kicked my butt and I had immediate buyers remorse but by Friday I was all on board again. I think that is pretty normal. I am still very hesitant about social situations but the rest of it is pretty easy and straightforward. Follow the rules given by the surgeon and you lose weight and the rainbows will appear and butterflies will fly. Or something like that. Anyway, it is a very doable plan if one sets their mind to it. Good luck and let us know how you do with surgery.
  4. I have used pressure cookers for years and I love them. Just make sure you read the directions on your particular model and learn to cool it down before taking the top off. We don't want any explosions I make home made chicken Soup in mine and it takes maybe an hour where it would take hours cooking the conventional way. The meat and veggies get so tender and the taste is delicious. I've bought some cheap cuts of meat and cooked them in the pressure cooker and they are so tender you can cut them with a fork, And as some of the others have said, the nutrients are still in the food. You will love it. Janet
  5. to start losing weight go back to basics as you were taught in your classes with the liquids / Protein shakes. Make an appointment with a Therapist that has experience with people and food addictions and especially someone who deals with WLS patients. Then get yourself into therapy, Your body can't be in the game unless your head is in the game. You have already admitted you need help, now go get it. In the mean time the rest of us are here and will be happy to talk out whatever problems you are having. You are not alone, we all have problems and understand how easy it is to turn to food. What is bothering you, what has pushed you so far off track?
  6. Wow, I am glad to say I am back among the living. The surgery on Feb. 10th kicked my butt big time. I ended up staying in the hospital and extra day due to having so much lung congestion. I was on breathing treatments around the clock and I was in a lot of pain. I came home last Thursday and each day has shown significant improvement. I started on the full liquids on Sunday and that made a tremendous difference. Of course my appetite came back so it was much easier to get the fluids and shakes down. I had 6 incisions and all are doing well except for one which is very very painful. I keep having sharp cutting pains when I move quickly or try to pull my self out of the recliner or bed. Other than that I now feel terrific and I have started walking my 30 minutes per day. I am going back to work tomorrow. For all of those about to have surgery, don't worry, you can do this. The first few days I kept thinking WTH have I done to myself but now on my 1 week anniversary... I feel positive and motivated. Life is good. Janet
  7. i had to pay my $500 up front before they would even send anything over for insurance approval. I thought it was odd but I paid it and everything else went smoothly. Sometimes the doctor's office wants to know you are serious about getting this surgery and if you are serious enough to put down the money up front, they know you probably won't back out after they have jumped through all the hoops , doing all of that paper work and have you a surgery date. I don't think they keep the money if you don't have surgery. Either way, you have to think about how serious you are in having the surgery and what are you willing to do to make it happen? Also, any doctors you have been to in the last two years have records of what you weighed. They can submit those records as proof of your weight history. Good luck to you and hope you can make the decision that is right for you. Janet
  8. I tried a couple of flavors of the isorpure and I couldn't stomach them. If you can add something to them to improve the flavor it might be a good idea to try them since they are so high in Protein. I drink Atkins Protein shakes and the Premier Protein shakes and I like them pretty well, I would rather have a juicy steak , steamed veggies and a baked potato but since i know I can't I drink the shakes and follow the diet. So far so good, I'm losing.
  9. I am also 1 week post op and have started the full liquid diet. I had no restrictions on the cream of anything soups. Just don't eat any of the stuff floating in there. It is so much more substantial than the clear broth so it is more satisfying. I'm also eating apple sauce, pudding, Jello, and grits and of course my Protein drinks. Each person's surgery is different and each Surgeon has a different recovery process. But they all say..... sip, sip, sip those fluids. LOL
  10. Hi eyoung. This surgery is very difficult as are the life changes so its not uncommon for us to become depressed and make poor choices. We've always self medicated with food and that is what we are comfortable with. Tomorrow is another day and you can start over with your protein shakes and then get back on the diet, You can do this!!!! Get your mind back on track by figuring out why you had this surgery and what your goal is. You are the master of your journey.
  11. It may just be the age difference but I've not come through as well. I am sore all over, and I'm having a hard time getting in the water and the protein. I have no appetite at all. Im hoping this part will all soon be a bad dream and I'm able to eat again very soon.
  12. My surgery was Monday and I am having problems with getting the water and the nutrition down. How long till I feel normal??? I have some isopure...will give a try.
  13. 95 lbs is a lot of weight in just 9 short months so you should be very proud of yourself. I am impressed. Be patient and the rest will come off. You have done an awesome job so far so I know you will continue to do a good job.
  14. Thank you for sharing Rhonda. I'm being sleeved in the morning. I have so many questions about my future eating habits. I look forward to losing the weight though.
  15. Hi Anica, welcome to the site. You will find a lot of information and a lot of support here. Congratulations on getting approved so quickly. There is a lot of preliminary stuff to get through, have you got all of that scheduled all ready? Good luck to you.
  16. Mine is in 12 hours too Jpov. Let's get this party started.
  17. I agree with you Gman. Wish I had taken the time to come up with a more creative moniker. Oh well, this one works. Hi Jenny and welcome. Come in and make yourself at home. Most everyone here is friendly and supportive. You will occasionally come across a curmudgeon but they are far and few between. I have learned so much from this forum and I credit it for my preparation and readiness for my surgery. BTW, I am having my surgery Monday the 10th. (Tomorrow) I am so excited and feel like all of these people will be supportive and provide us the answers we need.
  18. wow, I thought the first week was just clear liquids. You ladies are doing good.
  19. You bet we're doing it!!! And we are going to look MAUVALOUS DAULING. Well, it might take 6 months but we will!! Sandy I'm so happy to hear you got a surgery date for this month. My date is tomorrow the 10th and I think there are quite a few of us having surgery tomorrow. I'm sure there will be wide range of experiences but I know we will all do well. Get started on all your pre-op stuff and I wish you lots of luck.
  20. Ree REE, Jencovi and Lynn, I will be praying for all of y'all too. Like you I am nervous and excited but I really want to get this party started so I can start losing and the sooner I get started the sooner I will be eating real food again. I am going to Greece this summer and I want to be able to eat real food when I get there. I certainly don't want to be on a pureed diet when I am out of the country. How hard would that be??? Any way... I'm at 8:45 am in the morning and sounds like the rest of you have surgery at 10. I'm in Mississippi (Central time) so there will be the time difference too. I think we are 3 hours ahead of California, right? Marie, please text me send me your phone number again in a private message. I can't seem to find it. Good luck everyone.
  21. Hi ONE MORE TIME, I will definitely be praying for you tonight and in the morning. My surgery is at 8:45. I have to be at the hospital at 6 am. I will be the second person to be sleeved. (There are only two of us on the 10th so we should be getting extra special care). Remember, God will be watching over you and wants you to be healthy as much as you want it. He says our bodies are a temple so you know He's not going to let anything bad happen to that temple. Looking forward to sharing this journey with so many fine people.
  22. I am being sleeved on Monday. My post-op diet is one week of clear liquids, one week of full liquids, then 2 weeks or pureed food. Then 2 weeks of soft foods. Then solids.
  23. good question. I don't know what any of it is so would love to hear a good explanation. thanks
  24. Hi Bill, I'm not a man but thought I'd reply anyway. This topic comes up quite often in this forum and you will find a mix of responses. Like you, I have chosen to tell nobody except my husband and my daughter. I've noteven told my office anything, I'm just taking a week off of work. Like you said its a private matter and with the HIPA laws now, we shouldn't have to share with anyone right? I chose not to because I didn't want people judging me, either positively or negatively. I have my reasons for having this surgery and I don't think I should have to share those with friends or relatives. I have heard from others who wish they had not told people and there are a few who told everyone they knew and got lots of support back. Of course one can never know what they say when they are not within earshot of us either. Anyway, that is just my 2 cents on the matter. When I want to share, I come to this forum where I can enjoy others posts, get information, and ask questions. Good luck to you. I'm getting sleeved Monday.
  25. Congratulations. The trick is to set goals and try to achieve those, which you are doing. Great job. Have fun in Lucia.
