  1. I also have wide feet, high arches and add to that a high instep. I have found New Balance to be the best since they have a wide toe box and provide support for high arches. I have smallish feet 7.5 so getting them wide is usually a problem but not so with New Balance. A good fitting is most necessary in order to get the correct style to fit your feet. Good luck.
  2. And we are excited for you. You are going to love it!!! (well, you won't love it the first two weeks.... but after that you will) !! Good luck and hope you have a good surgery and a quick and uneventful healing.
  3. Hi Re, don't be nervous. All will be fine with your surgery. Humans for some reason are afraid of the unknown. We are like this with everything. People are against WLS because they are not familiar with it, have not read up on it nor have they done any research. All that will change in a few years I am sure because so many celebrities are having WLS. You are having surgery for your health right? Your health is your business and nobody else's so you don't have to have these discussions with anybody. Make your choices for a better healthier life and then go with it. A year from now when you are down 100 pounds and looking like a hot little mama.... your sisters will be dieting again and trying to lose the same 30 pounds they lost this year. Most of us can lose weight but keeping it off is a different story. The yoyo cycles we put our bodies through are killing us so its better to lose the weight and keep it off. If that can only be accomplished by WLS, then so be it. It's nice to have support of family a friends but it isn't 100 per cent necessary. If this is something you truly want .... do it and get your support from this forum. When your sisters see the changes in your life, they'll get on board with this, but if they don't...its okay...you will be healthier and you will live longer. And that is the bottom line.
  4. Hi Sashii, We don't judge anyone in this forum and certainly wouldn't judge you for wanting VSG. Your doctor is way smarter than we are and if he suggested surgery for you, then we are here to support you. Diabetes is a serious disease and that alone is reason enough. It sounds like you have multiple comorbidities that would be improved with surgery so it sounds like insurance would approve but of course every insurance policy is different. I wish you much luck and can just say that its the best thing I've ever done. Wishing you good health for the future.
  5. Girl, you are FAB-U-LOUS. You could be a poster child for VSG because you have certainly rocked it. Your hard work and dedication have paid off and you deserve that hot little body that you havedeveloped. So proud of you.
  6. Are you taking anything for nausea? Until you start drinking the water, the weight won't come off. You may need to go to the ER and get an IV so you won't be dehydrated. The dehydration is making you tired. At the ER they can put something in the IV that will help with that nausea and you will feel like a new woman. I haven't had any issues since my surgery but with all of my pregnancies I was nauseated 24/7 and became dehydrated often. The occasional trip to the ER for my drip was what saved me. I was able to eat and drink after these sessions. I'm surprised your doctor hasn't told you to go to the ER. Please check into it.
  7. thank you so much for sharing this. Excellent article and lots of hints I needed to hear.
  8. I had a heel spur and pain in my achillies tendon prior to surgery. Not any better yet.
  9. Oh yeahhhh, my pants look like an army of elfs moved out. I plan on going to the local consignment shop and buying a few pair of pants to get me through awhile. They are used but in good shape so its all I need. I've bought a few shirts to spruce things up for work but all of my old dresses are fitting. I don't mind wearing them to church but I sure don't want to wear a dress to work. My coworkers will think I lost my mind. lol
  10. Melinda, you will do fine. Stay positive and focused and be realistic about the recovery. You got this. Janet
  11. Hi MsTonya, good to see you on the boards. This is a great place to share ideas and information and I hope you will share what you need to share and take away whatever you need to help you in your journey. We're all on the same path.
  12. I was told not to chew gum at all because it stimulated the appetite. Like all things you will get a variety of responses since every doctor's treatment plan is different.
  13. Melinda, calm down. There is not one of us that wasn't afraid at some level prior to surgery. We are all afraid of the unknown. Yes, complications can happen but thankfully they are very rare. I am assuming since you are in the Gastric Sleeve forum, you are planning on getting the sleeve. Everybody's surgery and progress is different but all I can say is, mine was pretty uneventful. When I got to the hospital, they put in the IV and gave me something to relax me...I fell right to sleep and the next thing I remember was my husband sitting next to me in my room. It happened so quickly. I was able to go back to work after the first week and I have progressed just like the doctor said I would. Have you done your research? Maybe you might feel better if you did some counseling with a therapist to get at some of the issues that are causing you to be so fretful. Have you been attending any of the support groups offered by your surgeon's clinic? I think that might be helpful for you. I wish you the best of luck with your decision, whatever that might be. Janet
  14. I think you should listen to your Endocrynologist, they know your history and are the experts. Good luck to you.
  15. What did your surgeon tell you? Mine said as soon as I got home I could walk outside or on the treadmill. The only limitation was no lifting over 10 pounds, no running, and no machines for 6 weeks. I feel like the treadmill and the stationary bike have really aided in my weight loss.
  16. You are still retaining fluid and your stomach and abdominal area are still swollen and inflamed. It takes a couple of weeks for your body to recover from the shock of surgery. Give it a few days and you will most like see a dramatic drop of 9 or 10 pounds. You are going to lose the weight, just be patient and drink your fluids and eat according to plan your surgeon gave you. Everyone's body is different and will lose at a different rate. Not everyone is a fast loser.
  17. Great gift for a well deserved weight loss journey. You do indeed deserve it. Love the color of your car and I know you are going to look awesome driving that around. Congratulations.
  18. I also have sleep apnea and have had it for quite awhile. I'm on my 3rd CPAP machine and I have to tell you ....I've never gotten used to it. I am quite anxious when it comes to having anything around my head and face and though I know there is forced air pressure, I feel like I am being suffocated. I never found a mask that was comfortable, and believe me, I've tried dozens of them!! The nasal pillows are by far the best or at least easiest to tolerate. All of my doctors stress how dangerous the Sleep Apnea is.. not to mention that it causes weight gain and could slow down you weight loss after surgery. I do try to use it but I have to say I am not 100% compliant and I remove it many times in my sleep in the middle of the night. I can only relate my experience, I don't know how to make it easier for you...all I can say is try it. A friend of mine was hesitant about using a cpap until his doctor showed him the video of him sleeping. He flipped and flopped all night like a beached croaker. It made a believer out of him and now he is sold on his CPAP. Maybe it just takes getting used to. Good luck.
  19. Yes I did. I was thinking it was menopause and maybe it is but it could just be the recovery from surgery and getting the anesthesia out of our systems. Whewwww, who ever said this was taking the easy route doesn't have a clue.
  20. I've had that problem for years. I have changed to Protonics, which was prescribed by my doctor. It seems to do the trick for me. Maybe you can get your doctor to prescribe it for you.
  21. Hi, I understand the confusion but you need to make this decision for yourself. Maybe you should have this discussion with your doctor and then it will be more clear what is medically best for you. I chose the sleeve for myself for all of the same reasons that were given by LumpySpacePrincess. I just needed something to help me eat less so I could lose the weight. I didn't want to have to take Vitamins for the rest of my life and worry about malabsorption issues, and I didn't want to deal with "gassiness". I have had no dumping as does happen with the rny. I know the Sleeve is permanent but I wasn't looking for a diet... I was looking for a change in life style so I could have a permanent healthy life. I suppose everyone has their own reasons for choosing which surgery they have but if you do your research and make the comparisons you will find the one that works best for your life style and for your issues. I wish you much luck.
  22. Thanks everyone. I sure get an education on this site. I've learned soooo much.
  23. The first couple of weeks you will be eating soups and other liquids. The purees starting at week 3 can be most anything. I pureed chicken and tuna and added a little sour cream and a little light mayo for chicken salad and tuna salad. I cooked a roast in the crock pot and pureed that in the food processor as well but not till week 4 or 5. I wouldn't waste a lot of time pureeing a lot of food since it will only be for a week or two. You can use grits, oatmeal or scrambled eggs as a meal too. I just altered the food I cooked for my family. If they wanted hamburgers I would just cook some loose ground beef and have that with a little bit of mashed potatoes. It was tasty and went down very well. You have to plan your meals but don't over think things, its easier than you think.
  24. Hmmm, I've heard of trolls under the bridge and troll dolls but what is a troll on this forum? Color me under-informed.
  25. Lordy Lordy, I hope I don't lose shoe sizes... I wear a 7 1/2 wide. I don't mind losing width but I don't want to lose length. My feet already look too small for my body. I have noticed all the shoes I have now are loser and I'm good with that.
