Whats sodium got to do with weight gain?
Yup, even yogurt has salt and you have to count every bit of your salt intake. I went for my surgeon visit yesterday and I complained about water retention (causing swollen ankles, pain in my legs and bruises on my thighs - possible PAD). The nurse said that I have to watch out for the sodium hidden in regular foods. She said my daily sodium intake shouldn't be higher than 2,300 grams a day (she'd prefer that I keep it at 1,800 grams). She also agreed that it's hard because a lot of the foods that the NUT encourages us to eat is also high in sodium (i.e. cottage cheese). So, with that said, I'm just trying to keep track by reading labels (which I do anyway) and keeping the added salt to a minimum.

Anticipation
Teabody, I've been pulling my hair out with Obamacare since the open enrollment started on 10/1/14. I'm self employed so I pay for my own insurance out of pocket. I tried to enroll for an Obamacare program, but I made too much money for 2012 (they base your eligibility on your last tax returns). I bit the bullet and just upgraded from my old plan with Horizon (my previous plan doesn't cover bariatric surgery). I'm at the tail end of my preops, met with my surgeon's office yesterday and will probably be scheduled for surgery mid-February. So basically, I'm going to pay for my current expensive plan for two months, then reapply for an Obamacare subsidy plan before the 3/31/14 deadline for open enrollment (after I have my taxes done).

Don't be surprised!
Anew74, you absolutely have to decide that you are doing this for YOU and not anyone else. At the end of the day, no one is walking in our shoes and has to experience what we experience from being overweight. IT'S A PERSONAL CHOICE. If you have really made up your mind to do it for YOU, don't let other people's words shake you. Remember, everyone has their own demons, and don't let THEIR fears and insecurities become yours.

Don't be surprised!
Gmanbat, I'm hoping just maybe I'm being overyly sensitive. I have to remind myself that most times other people's behavior has nothing to do with me, they're dealing with their own demons.

What 10 weeks + a day makes (with pic)
Thanks for being honest Bonnie, but it doesn't matter, you still look hella good!

Don't be surprised!
Not everyone will be happy for you when you tell them of your plans to be sleeved, so please DON'T BE SURPRISED when they act out. I don't regret telling anyone that I've told because it is actually helping me to weed out the bad seeds. I have one "friend" who is now passively picking at every other thing that I've shared with her that I have insecurities about. I'm not sweating it, she's just doing me a favor by showing me who she really is. I think in some people's small minds they're just looking at it like, "oh crap, she's gonna be skinnier/better looking than me," when in fact I'm doing this to be healthier and to literally save my own life. Oh well, in the end, she will see much, much less of me...figuratively and literally:)

I kinda lost it...
Since October 1, 2013 I've been going back and forth with my health insurance, the Obamacare Healthcare Marketplace debacle. I thought I was all set to have my new insurance in place on Jan. 1st, then I get a call from my Horizon Insurance agent this afternoon. Long story short, what I thought was done was not done. I completely lost it, colorful language, tears, yelling...the whole nine. No, I am not proud of my outburst because it is so out of character for me. I'm the ultimate professional at all times and I always seem to smile through my pain, disappointment, anger, etc., but today was NOT the day! I feel like I ALWAYS do things the right way, by the book and I always get screwed:( I have 4 doctors appointments this week which will have me all done with my pre-op appointments, AND I AM DETERMINED TO NOT LET ANYTHING OR ANYONE GET IN MY WAY OF BEING SLEEVED, PERIOD! Of course, I apologized to the person on the other end of the phone, as I felt very embarrassed about how I behaved, and we even laughed about it (she said she's heard every curse word ever said today because it's so close to the Jan. 1st deadline). I made a few phone calls and it will be resolved by tomorrow morning (my new insurance will be processed and I will make the premium payment in time for the Jan. 1st effective date). Now, as I get closer to being sleeved, I realize how really, really important all of this is to me.
