  1. For my band I had to have a letter of medical necessity, a psych eval, and a nutrition eval. I was just wondering if you had to go through all of this over again in order for you to have your revision.

    TNE EGD

So I am having a TNE done with only local anesthesia. I'm nervous! Wondering if anyone else has had this and if so, how bad did it hurt?

Anyone in New Jersey Use Dr. Ewing

I just started the process yesterday with Dr. Nussbaum! I'm so excited. Sorry you had to switch.
  4. Hi all! When I had my lap band placed, I was back to work in 1 week. I'm imagining the sleeve revision won't be the same. I'm just curious about how long did it take you to go back to work? I'll be doing the 2 step process also
  5. I have been stuck for at LEAST 24 hours. I called my surgeon's office and was told I need an adjustment and scheduled for Monday (it's Friday now). I can't get fluids down or anything. I'm suspecting a slip. I'm already dehydrated. I don't know what else I can do. Does anyone have advice?

Lapband stuck for over 24 hours!?!?

Yes discomfort. I will have to wait for the office to actually close in order to reach a doctor on call. Sounds stupid right? I just don't feel that the secretary relayed my message

Lapband stuck for over 24 hours!?!?

Thank you for the reply. I am not near Valley, I actually have to go to an Atlantic Health Hospital due to being an employee and only having ER visits covered by my insurance at Atlantic Health Facilities. I'll have to call and see if they recommend me anything. I was told that if I get dehydrated, that I can call the office again for the on call doctor ????
  8. Did you end up finding someone? I'm in NJ also and interested

    I Hate my Lap Band

I hate mine too! I'm advising to the sleeve as soon as I possibly can.

    Pregnant and Lap Band

I had my daughter in November! I had a high risk pregnancy due to complications from a previous pregnancy and had no problems with the band while pregnant other than the port site being tender because it pushed against my skin more, baby always had her feet in that spot. All went well we had a healthy pregnancy and an easy delivery. Just be sure to get enough carbohydrates or to take folate supplements to avoid spina bifida.
  11. How much loss did you have with the band during induction. I'm going to low carb again. This is the only way I can lose. I want to see if this helps at all before I make an appointment for another fill. I would ideally love to lose 6 lbs by the end of this month... We will see.
  12. 2 months. I had my surgery 3 months almost to the date of my initial consult. I also work at and have insurance through the hospital it was performed at. The doctor is one of our attendings, I'm sure that had something to do with the easy process.

    LapBand Forum going away?

It could be from the popularity of the sleeve. The lap-band seems like yesterday's news. When I went for my initial consult my doctor said he recommended the sleeve for me and when I told him I still wanted the band he asked "why?". To be honest, I am kicking myself in the ass for not listening to him. I hate this stupid lap-band. I am going to try to get back on track though and make the best out of a bad situation. Also, not to mention, doing nursing clinicals on the bariatric floor at the hospital I work at, we see more lap-band complications than any other bariatric surgery, I don't know if this has anything to do with it.

    Say no to Lap-Band video

I do understand exactly what she is saying. I feel similarly. Do I regret having weight loss surgery? No absolutely not. Do I regret chosing the band as my surgery? Well... yes, I sure do! It works for some people but it does not work for me. I have lost 50 lbs so far but that is from dieting with the band. I cannot lose weight just by eating smaller portions, I cannot lose weight just by eating healthy, I actually have to be on a strict low carb diet. At this point I have spiriled out of control again. I just do not have time to think about what I put into my body. I am lucky if I find time during my day for sleep! I work overnights and I am in nursing school during the day. The last thing on my mind is food. Sometimes when I eat, I am so tight and nothing will go down, everything comes back up and yes it does feel like you are choking. I have ruined dates and family outings to restaurants because I had to either run to the bathroom every few minutes to vomit or because I looked like a jerk by only taking one bite of food and taking the rest home. It is unpleasant when you get stuck. You can try to make it go down but for me, so much mucous comes up! This goes with any foods when I am too tight, junk food, healthy food, or slider foods, or even Water. NOTHING will go down! I hate it! The rest of the time if I am not feeling "too tight", I am too lose and literally everything goes down. I could eat A LOT of food, just as I did before I had surgery. This is not because I want to but because of the addiction I still have to food. I really wish I chose the sleeve because then I would physically feel full. I am going to look into revision. Not everyone is the same though. Some people find that the lapband is exactly what they were looking for.

    Question regarding restriction

This is just so frustrating. I'm thinking about doing the 5 day pouch test.
  16. There are some points during the day when I have so much restriction I can't swollow anything no matter what consistancy it is. There are other points in the day when I have no restriction whatsoever and it's as if I never even had the surgery. This is so frustrating and I have given up on my weight loss journey because this surgery that was supposed to help me has only made things more difficult! I want to do a band to sleeve revision however I have only had the band for 9 1/2 months. I don't know what to do. I am also unable to see my surgeon at the moment.

    Qualcare in New Jersey

Not sure but I too have Qualcare in NJ from the hospital I work at and I am curious to know your result. I haven't even had my band yet for a year though. I just don't like it. It's either that I'm too tight and can't eat anything at all or later in the day I have no restriction whatsoever!
  18. Just thought I'd introduce myself! I'm Wendy 23 from Sparta NJ. I had my band places at Morristown Medical Center by Dr. David Ward on Thurs Jan 23.

    Low carb shrimp salad recipe

I just made this this morning and remembered how much I missed it. This is my step mom's recipe. 1lb shrimp- cooked, peeled, chilled 2-3 stalks of celery chopped Dill- chopped (I use dill singles, used to taste) Lemon (about 1/4 lemon ) Mayonnaise (1-2 large scoops) Salt and pepper to taste Combine ingredients and enjoy this is great by itself, on a roll (if you are able to eat rolls) or on a bed of romaine!
  20. Between family parties and celebrating my last blast for awhile before starting nursing school, working overnights, breaking up with my bf of three years and gaining a new one... This summer has been a hell of a ride and my weightloss efforts have suffered. I really let all of these things take the front seat in my life. I have put my weightloss on the back burner. I did well for awhile and when I get back into that groove I lose pretty quickly. I just saw a 2 week pause and kind of gave up. I can't seem to find the drive to get back into my low carbing and I keep finding that I am making a lot of excuses for myself. I have found out how to eat around the band even though I am pretty tight. I usually have no issues when I eliminate carbs...the band does its job. This is awful and I'm really upset at myself
  21. Wendydarling19

    Lets talk Sliders!

Carbs in general are slider foods... I have learned how to eat around the band so with enough chewing anything can be a slider food... just not as much. Ugh! this makes the journey much harder than expected
  22. Wendydarling19

    Solid foods 1 week post-op?

I have the band but my Dr also allowed solids after 1 week but advised to choose foods that were moist like fish instead of chicken and to chew well. No complications so far.

    Birth control!

The pill doesn't necessarily make you gain weight but the hormones that are released definitely play a part in weight gain. I have Mirena IUD and the hormones stay located to that specific area. It usually does not encourage weight gain
  24. I have some friends who are recovering heroin addicts (yes I used to float with the "bad crowd", no I never personally got into it, I had other addictions, food being one of them.) I was visiting with a few of them for a couple days and I told them about my low carb diet and they tried to say things like "oh just one slice of pizza wouldn't hurt". I told them that was like saying "oh just one bag of heroin wouldn't hurt and you wouldn't become addicted all over again." They got my point but one of them said to me "don't tell me your food addiction is the same thing". Well no its not the exact same but they are both addictions that are extremely hard to overcome. Chances of relapsing are very high with both. Both addictions could eventually kill you. Am I really wrong for using that exact analogy?
  25. I have finally hit the -50 lb mark. I'm about 1 lbs to onederland but I just don't see it. I don't feel much different. Is it because I'm only half way there? Idk maybe it's because I haven't been doing the best with my diet and haven't lost any significant weight this past month. Feeling down that's all ????
