taking bites every few minutes
Wendydarling19 replied to shantelw75's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
You are newly banded so you have yet to experience bandster hell. You might feel like this is all great right now but you are 10 days post op and still swollen. Wait until the swelling goes down and bandster hell kicks in. You won't really have that sensation of things are hard to swollow anymore until you start your fills. -
Payment for Surgery
Wendydarling19 replied to Coryn's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Wow!! My surgery was $26,500 total cost!!! I only had to pay 20% of my surgeon's fees because my insurance is through the hospital where I had my surgery (I work for them). OOP cost $509 -
1st fill, check... Is it too early to get my 2nd?
Wendydarling19 replied to MrsPJ's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I call my dr speedy Gonzales because everything he does is fast paced. 1 appt before the surgery, back to work 1 week after the surgery, back on solids 1 week after the surgery, large fills. Anyway, even HE wouldn't fill me before 3 weeks in between. I know you are anxious but just give it time and adjust yourself. You will get there. I just went for my 3rd fill today, hoping I'm finally where I need to be in between 6.5-7 cc and my dr said I seem to be kind of tight but I felt like where I was with 1 cc less was too little. -
Has anyone had experience binge drinking with the band?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah by responsibly I mean that I stay in at a friend's house or my house for the night and make sure not to drive or put anyone in harm's way. Anyway, I'm glad I didnt end up in the ER. I thought I would have because I couldn't keep any liquid down. I work at to hospital so that would have been embarrassing -
Has anyone had experience binge drinking with the band?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah I suppose I shouldn't drink to excess anymore. I also sometimes get bad migraines though where I am puking for 24 hours straight, I suppose that night dislodge my band too. I wonder why my dr didn't say anything about that. I will have to ask tomorrow when I see him. -
I take topomax for Migraine. My Neuro put me on it after I was banded and I haven't really had any issues except for some tingling and numbness in the extremities which is common and I remember from the first time I had it. That only happened in the beginnning or if I miss a dose and I get tingly the next time I take it. Igt does make me very tired though. I told my neuro I was low to no carbing and he said it's not an issue. The plus side is that is can often lead to loss of appetite and is used in conjunction with phentermine as a weight loss aide. If anything, it will help your progress. I can see the concern with the LC diet because of acidosis since topomax affects metabolic CO2 levels as does LC diet. My neuro has me go in for Basic Metabolic Profile bloodwork to make sure my CO2 levels don't get too high. If you are concerned you can always ask your Dr.

Your situation does sound a lot like band slippage. I wish you luck in finding out what is wrong and that it is able to be solved soon.

Will i be able to get a fill even with weight loss?
Wendydarling19 posted a topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
So I scheduled a fill for Friday but I have lost a decent amount of weight since my last appt. I don't feel like my restriction is where it needs to be though. I have lost the weight because I have been dieting. I'm just wondering if anyone's doctor has ever told them "no" to a fill because their weight loss seems to be successful -
First Fill, surgery was 1 year ago!
Wendydarling19 replied to Cwalden's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yeah I don't know what you mean by looking for advice on how to deal with a fill. 3cc isn't all that much so it won't be a huge difference. Just eat slowly and chew your food well and you should be fine. -
Ladies, what do you consider your ideal dress size ?
Wendydarling19 replied to Alex Brecher's topic in General Weight Loss Surgery Discussions
Size 8-10 because I seem to lose weight in the abdominal area first always. My thighs are another story. It takes me about 40-50 lbs to comfortably drop a size. At 215 I'm about a size 14. I'm shooting for about a size 10 at 140 which is what I basically was in high school. -
So now with the band in combo with low carbing and stress from final exams I have been forgetting to eat. I ate Sunday night dinner around 4pm and didn't eat again until today at noon. It didn't even cross my mind that hey you must eat! Now without the hunger pangs reminding me, I guess I just forget. Does anyone else have this issue? I know this is bad. I'm hoping it will get better once I am under less stress.

What is all the fuss about drinking water to lose weight?
Wendydarling19 posted a topic in Post-op Diets and Questions
Okay so we all know that it is just healthy to stay hydrated whether you are trying to lose weight or not but why should we feel guilty if we don't meet our minimum daily requirement? I don't know if I have ever met my MDR and so far so good. I can see that it's supposed to keep you full thus making you eat less calories. That is a nice theory but that doesn't really work in reality. At least not for me anyway...when my stomach asks for food...it won't settle for less. Wondering about this, I decided to turn to good ol' google for some advice regarding this and this is what I came up with: http://www.webmd.com/diet/news/20040105/drinking-water-may-speed-weight-loss hmmm... interesting...looks like it only makes a VERY VERY small impact on weight loss. What are everyon'es thoughts? -
My hubby really wants Chinese food for dinner. I usually order the same few things which I'm positive I can't eat now. I'm wondering if anyone has a "go to" pick at a Chinese restaurant or avoids it altogether? I was thinking chicken with broccoli or something like that. I am currently not filled at all yet if that makes a difference. If worse comes to worse I will just order egg drop soup but hoping I can have something of more substance.

So when it comes to eating the good stuff (protein, veg, fiber etc) I eat very little and am satisfied very quickly and don't get hungry again for a few hours maybe even as long as 8-12 hours!! I have noticed though if I eat carbs I can eat unlimited amounts basically and feel hungry right away. My surgeon told me before I had the band that it doesn't work for carbs so try not to eat them... Being a carbaholic... A do indulge sometimes. It really is harboring me though I feel. I'm not losing as quickly as I was in the beginning. I went the whole month of March with no loss. Now it looks after my second fill and losing 7 lbs 3 weeks ago almost immediately that I've stopped again... It's frustrating but I'm not jumping to conclusions yet. I thought I was in the green. I just need to pay better attention to my band but I honestly don't even have time to go food shopping between working overnights and going directly to school and studying. I barely have time for sleep as that is a luxury. I'm hoping to get into a better routine when school ends in a month.

So I wouldn't count this as a bad thing necessarily but.. I don't feel like I want to eat at all. I stopped eating sugar and carbs about a week ago. Two days ago I ate 1/2 cup chicken salad with some franks hot sauce midday and went to bed. Yesterday, I had a protein shake for breakfast, a hard boiled egg at lunch and I ordered dinner, waited an hour, took one bite and got stuck so I put it in the fridge. Still not hungry. I'm just making sure I get my fluids in. Maybe this is a side effect of the low carb and band together idk. I don't want to make myself sick though. Not sure what to do.

I indulge in SF chocolate every once in awhile. I found mini SF Reese's in the store that tastes the same as regular ones

I started low carbing... Now I can't find an appetite. I are practically nothing the past two days which really isn't good so I need to work on that but seriously I don't even want food. Even up until a week ago with the band I was wondering the same question you just posted. I just wanted that satisfaction of "full"

No restriction with carbs...anyone else?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Yes! It really is horrible isn't it? I put myself on low carb and so far so good! 5 lbs in 1 week I don't expect nor want to continue to lose a lb a day (counting from when I entered ketosis) but hey it doesn't hurt. I forgot to eat yesterday though and just finally ate a hard boiled egg first thing today. I have to watch out with that so I don't harm myself -
I don't know the details behind this? How does this happen? Isn't it stitched in? I'm just curious. I have the realize band which I think comes with a mechanism that "self stitches" or something like that. Well it just feels like a little off from the original place it was like almost tilted. Wondering if it's from loss or from my doctor pulling and poking on it during my last fill because he had trouble finding the spot to stick the needle

How do we know if port flipped or moved?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
The realize band has a mechanical anchoring system built in. Some surgeons also suture. From what I understand it was created to prevent port flip so I doubt I have a flip especially because I'm only 3 months out (today). The only issue I really have is if I lay flat on my belly on a hard surface like in Pilates and such. I had to find alternatives to the moves the rest of the class was doing. I just thought mine felt different which made me wonder how people actually know if their port has flipped or not -
How do we know if port flipped or moved?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Maybe that's what's happening. It only seems like a slight tilt to the side when before it just seemed flat. I also started Pilates which I wasn't doing before so maybe that has something to do with it -
There is no nutrition in your food. What I learned was sense proteins are the best. Did I listen at first? Kind of sort of. Did I indulge? Heck yes I did! I have found dense proteins fill you up quickly and for a very long time. A little goes a LONG way! I was eating other stuff too... Until I had my first stuck episode. I was eating a 1/2 of a triple decker PBJ because bf had it leftover from his lunch and I had to eat on the run. I ended up puking. This was maybe a week ago. I started low carbing last Thurs (old school Atkins) and have lost 4 lbs so far. I need to add more veg though and work on H2O intake but I don't eat more than 2x a day because I just physically can't! (My sleep/wake schedule is also strange since I work overnights, go to school during the day 3x a week, and some days sleep all day). I hope you find the strength to give up the junk and eat some dense proteins!!

Is there a way to delete a topic?
Wendydarling19 replied to Wendydarling19's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
Thank you for deleting said comments. My issue was that she said she would stop commenting long before and I felt that she kept commenting to get under my skin. She went into that thread looking to start an argument which is extremely unsupportive. That is besides the point. That you for letting me know about the "ignore user" function. I will now be using this -
I started a thread and want to delete it because it caused nothing but drama. Some lady thinking she knows everything when really she and all of the other repliers are not even grasping the ACTUAL original thing I was posting about and are only focusing in on what they would like to hear. Anyway, enough with that, how can I delete it? Thinking about leaving the site and finding a new one if posts can not be deleted.

Age versus weight loss success?
Wendydarling19 replied to labwalker's topic in LAP-BAND Surgery Forums
I am thankful to have the band at 23! However, that does NOT mean that you can't lose just as much or as quick as me. You will get there. It can be frustrating as it is for me too! You state that it took you 3 months to lose 50 lbs? That is actually quite rare even if you are young so don't beat yourself up over it! I'm happy to have lost 32 WITH the band in 3 months.
