I just assume they're asking a question they don't know the answer to and want to see if anyone is willing to answer, it really doesn't bother me. In my job I deal with people of all levels of intelligence and so what seems crystal clear to some is going to be confusing and a gray area to others.
Since quite a large number of people who have weight loss surgery lose weight and gain it all back I think it's an opportunity for us to support each other and provide as much good information as we can with as little judgment as possible.
As to why they'd commit to such a big surgery without a lot of research and reflection? Myriad reasons, I would imagine. Again, I think we're all assuming everyone has above average intelligence and self awareness and a lot of people simply do not. They may be feeling so desperate to lose weight they don't consider consequences or how much work really goes into it. Maybe they know someone who breezed through WLS and think they can too. As many reasons and you have people who do it.

Id dbl check with your doc, a friend of mine had lost weight so she quit using her's then later had a stroke ,cause of not using her cpap..guess everyone is different.

I also have PCOS. .the side affects of it for a girl is nothing anyone can understand unless you have it. I completely understand everything your saying. This week I lost my first 20 pds. I feel GREAT. Good luck to you.

Hi Kelmet! My surgery is scheduled for next Tuesday. I will keep you posted how it goes. I too found the info and support from everyone on this forum to be so helpful and encouraging. I have been both nervous and excited about getting banded but the more I get feedback from everyone the more excited and motivated I get. I'm so ready for this.

Good luck to everybody..I'm super excited as well. I'm sure closer to the holidays and surgery. I'll be asking for support.

I no longer take the metformin since after being banded my A1c went down to 6.2 and the cystic tumors have shrunk to pea size. But I have the mirena and it has been a life saver.

I take Spironalactone, Metformin, and Desogen birth control. I thought it wasn't really working.so I quit.for a month and promptly turned into a Chia pet (PCOS hairiness, blah!) I'm praying I can even my hormones out too. Combined with my medication and weight loss, someday I hope to be human again.....ugh

Hi kelmat! I am scheduled to get my band on 12-18-13. Sometimes I think I may be crazy to do this one week before Christmas. But, my insurance is changing so I need to get it in before the end of the year. Also, there will always be some reason not to do it. I too, am very nervous. I've never had any type of surgery before. I would definitely like to have some friends who know what I am going through.
