    Banded 1/17/2014

I didn't have alot of gas pains, but I had pain and swelling by my port site. The heating pad did help me. Hang in there!! It will be worth it!!
  2. I was banded in October 2013, and have had only 1 time that I actually vomited because I had something stuck. That was enough for me to make sure I chew, chew, chew. This is all such a learning process. I was always eating way to fast and that has changed. You will do great!! This group has also helped me alot. Great advise and great ideas to help a person through.
  3. I like the ideas that you got.. I to have a hard time finding what I want to eat. I get tired of the same old thing (yogurt, cheese sticks, soups). I have started eating refried beans, warmed up with a little cheese and salsa on it. Lower in calories and I get the spice that I like. I have a hard time eating meats. They alway seem to get stuck,, not to a point of vomiting, but I have discomfort. Thanks for the ideas! And best of luck to both of you on this journey!!

    Newly banded

I think I was sore for a month or so in my port area. When I went in for my fill, the doctor said that there was swelling under the port which is also normal. It has since gone away and it feels great. Hang in there!!!

I Don't Know What To Do

Thanks for your post NaNa!! This is going to really help me too. My biggest problem right now is still eating to fast and to big of bites. I haven't vomited yet, and I hope I never do. But I do get a pain when my bites are to big. Your post has helped me understand more too. I have only been banded since October 4th. Lynn

    Need A Buddy

Welcome!!! I'm Lynn and I was banded October 4th, 2013. I am a newbie!! This is a great site to be on for the support that you are wanting. I was also one that had tried every diet out there and failed. I was also one that questioned whether or not this was the right thing to do. I have lost 26 lbs and already have more energy and less aches and pains than I did before, so now I can honestly say, I would do it again in a heartbeat!! If you have any questions, ask. Best of luck to you in your journey!!

    First Fill Next Week...

Don't be nervous!! I was scared to death and after it was done, I felt pretty stupid for getting so worried about it. I go in for my 2nd fill in 2 weeks so am really excited this time. I am also getting hungry between meals so this should help. My doctor said it will take 2-3 fills before you really feel the restriction. I am really having to watch what I eat because right now I could eat about anything. Good Luck to you!!!

    Just Started The Process

Welcome!!!! This is the best group for getting support!!! I was banded on 10/4/13 and have no regrets. I have gotten so many questions answered from this group. We have all been in the same spot you are in right now. Stay positive, you will get there and we will be here to cheer you all the way!!!
  13. Try Centrum Adult Chewables. They are orange flavored and remind me of the taste of baby asprin when I was a child. They are pretty good. Then for the calcium, I take the Bariatric brand chewables. Now these taste to me like candy. There are a fruit flavor, caramel and a chocolate. I prefer the fruit and the caramel. If you need more info on the name of those I can get that to you when I get home from work. Good luck!!!

    No Pre-Op Diet? Drain Port?

I was banded on October 4th, 2013. I was on an all liquid diet for 10 days prior to surgery. The reason behind that is to get the liver to shrink down so they can move it out of the way to be able to get to the area easier. As far as a drain port, I did not have one. Maybe other doctors use it. I believe for the sleeve and the bypass they use a drain port. Best of luck to you on this journey!!
  15. I was banded on Oct. 4th and had my first fill on Nov. 6th. I felt restriction the first day, but that has now gone away and I am hungry between meals. I am so afraid I am going to gain weight by eating between meals. Plus I am still nervous about all the foods that I do eat, afraid something is going to get stuck. Even though I chew, chew, chew. Is it ok to eat between meals???
  16. Thanks everyone for the support and helping me understand this process a little more. It sure makes this journey a little easier.
  17. I need some help here. I was banded on October 4th, 2013. I had my first fill on Nov. 6th. I am always hungry. I don't know what I need to do. Maybe I need to drink more Water in between meals, I just don't know. I felt a slight resriction right after the fill, but nothing now. I know my doctor said it might take 2-3 fills to start feeling the restriction.. He told me not to eat between meals, but I am hungry. Is it ok to eat fruit or veggies between meals? Or any other suggestions would be great. Thanks

    Pain meds post-op

Try resting with a heating pad on that area. Take some Extra Strength Tylenol before you sit down to rest. See if that helps. I really do feel your pain!! It sounds like it is just irritated. Mine was really swelled up and the heat helped that too.

    Pain meds post-op

That does sound like what I was going through. Also be very careful when you cough or sneeze. Hold on tight to your port site. I sneezed and thought someone was trying to rip out my port, then it hurt for several days. The heating pad helped.

    Pain meds post-op

I was put on liquid Hydrocodone and did call for a refill which I was given. After a week I started just taking it at night so I could sleep without waking up to the pain. Where is your pain at? After the first week, I had pain at the port site. I thought there was an issue. I did go in and was told that everything was fine, there was just some fluid under the port site that would slowly get absorbed. I was told to put a heating pad on the area which would make it feel better and help with the healing. Good luck!!

    Low BMI

That is great!!! Glad they finally accepted it. I am a very impatient person and was not going to fight for months while my health issues continued to get worse. I was miserable all the time and my attitude at work projected that. I was very depressed and then I turned the dreaded "50". I decided I needed to do something about it so I did. The day of surgery the nurse came out and called my name. She was looking around right past me. Then apologized after that saying that she thought I was waiting for someone else. My thoughts are, just because I don't need to lose 100+ lbs, doesn't mean I don't need the surgery. I definately have other issues that would correct if I didn't have all the weight. I am happy to say I am on that journey and down 20lbs today!!! Best of luck to everyone on this journey!!

    Got my surgery date today!

How exciting!!! I was banded October 4th and I am feeling great!!!! I went back after 10 days and wished I could have stayed home a little longer. I had swelling under the port with caused swelling and some pain when I would take a deep breath and when I would turn wrong. I was told to put a heating pad on it for awhile, which made it feel better. Make sure if you go to sneeze or cough to hold on tight to the port site, otherwise it feels like it is getting ripped out. I learned from experience. After about a week of being very careful and using a heating pad a little bit here and there, it feels 100% better. Just don't rush the healing process!! Good luck with your journey.

    Low BMI

With my insurance, it didn't matter that I had high blood pressure, high cholesterol, swelling in my legs, recent back surgery and back was starting to hurt again and taking 7 medications a day. You would think that if it is a necessary to better your life Insurance Co. would cover it. Oh well, I will be paying my loan off for the next 3 years!!! But at least I will be healthy.
