  1. I can't eat sweets anymore....well, let me clarify, Cookies, cakes ice cream make me feel sick; but interestingly, I can have a small piece of Hersey chocolate and do just fine. Luckily, the mini Hersey bars are perfect to satisfy my sweet tooth without completely derailing my diet.

The only other big difference is that I don't care for pre-made Protein shakes anymore. I make my own with powders?utm_source=BariatricPal&utm_medium=Affiliate&utm_campaign=CommentLink" target="_ad" data-id="1" >unjury and love them.

  2. Hi has any of you hit a stall? I know it's annoying but I am very stressed out, it's been like 2 weeks I have not lost 1lb and I feel guilty like as if I was doing something wrong :(

Oh yeah, I'm on my third stall and all three have been 2 weeks or more each time. Really frustrating but the previous post from skinnygirlwithin holds some very good advice. Look for body changes and how your clothes fit differently. Up the Water, Protein and workout to shock your system. I've also been told that getting a massage is a great way to get past a stall. Not only is it deserved for all the hard work you've been doing but the massage itself will help detox the body issues and flush out any junk that's in your body. I think that may just be what's in order for this girl too!

  3. Thanks for the replies, how does one know when a certain food no longer agrees with your new tummy???

You will know, for me it's sugar. I crave it but if I give in, I feel like I'm going to be sick within minutes. Mind you, I've never thrown up, from sugar or anything else, but the feeling of sickness can make me miserable for about 30-45 minutes. It's a process, your body will communicate what it likes and what it doesn't. I'm only 5 months out and certainly no expert. I haven't mastered managing 'unfriendly' cravings yet so, like an idiot, I suffer regularly):

  4. I read about P3's on this site just another thread. You buy them at Walmart (I'm sure other places carry them too). They are convenient little grab-and-go type containers with cubed cheese, turkey cubes and almonds (or peanuts). They have 13 grams of Protein. Oscar Meyer makes them and you find them where prepackaged lunch meats and 'lunchables' boxed foods are located in the refrigerated grocery section. I'm guessing they were intended as healthy Snacks but for us, they can be a meal on the go. No guilt, no prep, just grab and go(:

  5. Dee, I really appreciate the post on avoiding sugar cravings. I'm 5 months post op and my weight loss is slowing. I attribute it to a lack of discipline and varying too much from 'the script' so to speak. Sometimes all we need is a reminder and a few helpful hints, I.e., love the bit about apples(:

I realize plateaus are inevitable and I seem to go from plateau to plateau, a bit frustrating, but I want to get back on track. Thanks again for the post!

  6. I am 3 months post op and because I am drinking 2-3 Protein shakes a day to get my Protein count up, I am taking in 1000-1100 calories a day. I think this is too much. My original paperwork said I should be getting 92 grams of protein a day. So many people have different amounts, so curious.

Judy, to me it's really impressive you're eating over a 1,000 calories a day. I struggle to eat 500-600 a day. I rely on my Protein Shakes for the bulk of my protein. Would you mind sharing what foods you're eating that you like the most and tolerate the best?

    Thanks, Sandy

  7. Thanks so much for all the great insight and reassurance this what I'm experiencing is normal for 3 months post op. I'm trying to stay focused on Protein as that's what the doctor stressed and even though my larges protein source is still shakes, I'm okay with that. I do tend to lean toward the fish, shrimp and scallops when I do try and eat real food so I'm feeling ya New Orleans RNY buddy. I can certainly relate to those of you that posted, "I get hungry but then done after two bites" that's exactly where I am right now. I seem to eat fresh fruit, mostly berries, very we'll but not so much on vegetables. Anyone got any good vegetable recipes I might try?

  8. Since my surgery on Jan 9th, it's been difficult to drink and take in full liquids. What I mean by difficult is that it hurt after about 2 bites. Even liquid felt weird going down. My weight loss has been very slow. Doc said it is because I didn't have a lot to loss and I would lose slowly. . After looking online I figured my body was in starvation mode due to 300-450 cals a day. So, my doc decided to scope me this Friday, but on Thursday morning I rushed myself to ER after trying to puke or swallow (whichever came first) 1 sip of coffee! They found I was completely closed off! My structure was 100%. After fixing it I'm completely shocked. Liquids and everything goes down. I just thought what I was feeling was normal. , so for those that are having issues, go get checked!

So glad you're better now! Wow, how scary. Btw, I'm trying to figure out how to connect with you on MyFitnessPal(:

  9. Our local PBS station showed this BBC Documentary last night. Sounds like an infomercial title, I know, but it was really quite scientific and I learned quite a bit (and this from a woman who has read every diet/nutrition book around)! There is a really interesting part about why Protein helps keep us feeling fuller longer, and how exercise burns fat even long after the exercise session. Here's a free site that shows the documentary. Check it out, about 58 minutes: http://topdocumentaryfilms.com/10-things-you-need-to-know-about-losing-weight/

Just watched the entire program and it was really informative, especially the Soup versus non-soup meal study. Thanks for sharing.

  10. Hi Guys I'm a 12/30 post oper too. I just sent you both mfp friend request. How are you all doing? I'm a little tired or the pain/discomfort and getting bored being at home.

Hi there, got your friend connect on MyFitnessPal & I'm looking forward to the fitness encouragement we'll share. my RNY was 12/11. I'm doing well but still learning and adjusting. This week I battled with Constipation and so I introduced a mild laxative and added sugar free Fiber gummies. I'm losing very slowly but as long as the scale nudges downward, I'm good with it. I'm 3 weeks post op and have only lost 8 lbs since surgery. How's your experience going other than being bored at home?

  11. Surgery went really well yesterday.;) Dr. found a hiatal hernia which he repaired. Chest is a little tight. I was able to sit up in a chair late last evening for 45 minutes. Step one diet today and walking, walking, walking.

so day five for me and you huh. How are u doing? If u have a my fitness pal account u are welcome to friend me if u like. Seeing as how we both had surgery on the same day :) my user name on there is xrayshel it's a great way to track everything I eat and I'm able to see all my friends food diaries too so that's helpful! And motivational as well.
Hi xrayshel, I just sent you a message through MyFitnessPal. Anyone else wanting to connect my user name on MyFitnessPal is Repurposed2013

  12. So nervous but reading all your post makes me feel like I'm not alone. Surgery date on Dec 2nd. Got a call from the hospital for a PreOp class on Friday! Excited yet nervous

    i

I'm nervous too but I think it's more a healthy appreciation for the seriousness of our decision to embrace this journey. The discomfort we will experience for a short time only leads to a lifetime of realizing the dream of healthy living. God has a purpose for our lives and He wouldn't lead us to this point if He didn't have great plans for our life ahead. Stay focus and keep your eyes on His purpose for your new, thinner, healthier life! God bless, Sandy

  13. Yayy we have the same day. I did 90% of my pre op tests today. Just have an Endoscopy left and I'm good to go! :-)

I've not started the pre-op tests yet. I have the EGD and Colonoscopy (bc I'm over 50), schedule for this coming Friday, the 22nd and all other pre-op tests Monday the 25th. My center requires an all day education class and I attend that on Tuesday the 26th. Are you nervous? When do you start the pre-op liquid diet? I'm thinking my center will tell me Wednesday the 27th, so no Thanksgiving feast for me, ha!

  14. So i had my final doctors appointment today. After the appointment I met with the scheduler to schedule my surgery and got the most unexpected news. She said that my surgery would be on November 26th. I said "WHAT?!?? THATS IN 12 DAYS! Her response was "We'll your diet starts right now" I'm happy and unprepared at the same time. I was supposed to have a blind date tonight but that's definitely cancelled, which I'm secretly happy about. The one thing that is making me uneasy is the fact that the diet is suppose to be 2 weeks. The scheduler told me that missing 2 days wouldn't hurt. I hope not....

Congrats on your surgery date! I just got approved by insurance today and surgery is Dec 11th.
